  1. So I had surgery on 8/11 and today am feeling so much better. Taking little sips and off the IV. Might be going home today but not sure as my drain has more liquid than normal so they may keep me another night. Honestly this was very hard, way harder than I thought it would be. Today I feel so much better, doing my laps around the hospital and drinking tea. Not hungry at all. Just the thought of food makes me nauseous. How are you other recent surgeries doing?

  2. I am scheduled for my gastric bypass on August 11th at Northwest Medical Center. I understand your fears about dying. It's always a scary thing to be put under but I am sure you will do fine! And just think how much better you will feel as the weight comes off. You will be able to have so much fun with your girls. I am 66 doing this because I want to spend the rest of my life in a healthier state, able to enjoy it. I'll be praying for you!

My fear is dying. I have 3 daughters. Youngest is 2, middle 10 and oldest 13. I know the risks are 0.23% at my center of excellence but I am a worrier. Other than a BMI of 40 I am healthy, no sugar, hypertension, cholesterol or sleep apnea issues, just a little knee pain. I'm self pay and scheduled for Aug 11. I need someone who's having bypass surgery around the same time to buddy up with. I'm having it w Dr Sosa at memorial west in Pembroke Pines. Anyone out there?

  3. Hi everybody!

I am really considering weight-loss surgery because I have been struggling with weight issues for six years... Tried everything and it doesnt work. Based on BMI, etc, I should be around 130-140. Therefore, I have about 60-70 pounds to lose. And as I was talking to a nurse she mentioned that weight loss for me was not going to be as fast as I expected. This kind of bummed me out because she mentioned that I would maybe 5 to 10 pounds a month... Even though I know weight-loss is good regardless of the amount, it kind of bummed and discouraged me...

Did anyone start off at around 200 lbs and have successful "normal" weight-loss in the first months? Please share your stories!

I would really appreciate it! Thanks!!

  4. Hey.

Last night was my last supper. I had whatever I wanted. But now I have 2 weeks of only fat free / sugar free yogurt, sugar free jelly and Water.

What I would suggest is don't go overboard on 'eating everything you can't have post surgery'

Why do you only have to do a 2 day clear liquid diet before surgery? Don't you have to do a liver reduction diet?

Im in the UK but I've noticed a lot of members on here from the US. Where are you?

Every patient in the UK needs to do a 2 week lover reduction diet.

I don't know. I'm at a 39.5 BMI no co morbidity so I have no idea. I was mentally preparing for a two week liquid diet but the surgeon told me only 2 days clear liquid. I'm in the US in Miami. Going to get my act together starting today as if I had to do the liquid pre op diet so I don't get crazy headaches afterwards. I'm 39 and have a weight of 208 lbs and a goal 138.

I'm Aug 11 and only have a 2 day clear liquid diet.

I'm freaking out because I'm eating more now, as if it's the last time. Why am I doing this? It's like I'm sabotaging myself before I even start!!

  6. Good morning everyone. I was wondering if anyone nerves started getting to them before surgery? The closer I get the more anxiety I'm having. My official date is August 11. Just about a month out.. I'm not having second thoughts just very very very nervous. Not sure why or what to do. Any advice???

I have the same day. I'm super nervous. I only have a 2 day pre op liquid diet and 10 day post op clear liquid diet. I feel I might have rushed into this but I think it's the anxiety and fear of not Having a normal life afterwards.
