    Hello,

Can anyone share their experience with acid reflux/ GERD? My surgery was slightly more than 3 weeks ago, and I am having trouble with this. food feels like it is my chest or throat. It does feel better when I walk and sometimes it keeps me up at night. Does this go away? I read about people having another surgery done to get it rid of it; I do not want to think about that option. I am very interested in hearing about another person's experience.

    Thank you.

I was having the same problems until my surgeon & my primary got together & prescribed meds. I'm taking about 3 different meds but they help. I also have a hiatal hernia which causes its own problems. Sometimes it feels like my food is stuck in my throat or at the bottom of my esophagus. When that happens, I usually end up throwing up. Not a good feeling at all! It does get better with time, I promise. I'm praying that my surgeon will go back in & repair this hernia by the first of the year. Best of luck to you!!

I am 6 wks post op and was cleats to start a regular diet. My nutritionist said try to have Protein Shakes bc they go through you more quickly. I didn't think you ask at my appt. Does anyone eat Protein Bars to get more Protein or are they just too filling this early on?

I was wondering the same thing but found out soon that the bars just sit in my stomach. That was not a good feeling so I decided to stick with getting my Protein from foods.

I am almost seven weeks post-op and I have the absolute worse nausea. I've been hospitalized twice from nausea and vomiting and have had to go to an infusion center for iv fluids once already. How long is this going to last?

I know everyone is different but I feel like I'm the only one who is struggling like this. I've had several friends who had the sleeve and never experienced this problem.

Oh I understand your pain!! I was sleeved on June 7, 2017 and it has not been an easy ride. I have a hiatal hernia that my doctor was unable to repair because of this damn fatty liver. This hernia is causing me a great deal of problems because I now have acid reflux. I have never experienced acid reflux and it's kicking my butt! My doctor says once the hernia is repaired the reflux should go away, but in the meantime I suffer. I'm afraid to eat new things because of the reflux and the horrible extra stomach acids. There's been pain also. I ended up in the ER with a small intestional infection & came home with more meds. Between the reflux and the nausea, I don't know how I'm making it! I'm trying to get all of my Protein in, but it's hard. I'm sure that I'm not getting in the recommended 80 grams a day.

I hate for anyone to have to go through any kind of hardship. We are supposed to be enjoying our weight loss journeys, but I feel like I'm missing out because of all this acid reflux. My friends that have had the same surgery are not having any problems.

  4. Some have to try diff meds to get one that works better, ask to switch to a diff type or brand. Don't lie down after eating, don't eat close to bedtime. Some suggest warm liquids in the morning, but not coffee
then waiting to eat so stomach can wake up....hope you get some relief

Thank you so much! I have noticed that warm liquids do help & I'm gonna ask my doc about other meds.

  5. Thank you so much Kathy. My doc told me that once I lost 100 lbs he would be able to repair the hernia & that would help with the acid reflux. I never had any problems with this before surgery and it's making me regret my decision about the surgery. I just want some relief!!

Thank you so much! My pre op diet isn't al liquid, its Protein Shake for Breakfast and lunch, and then a Greek yogurt or Protein Bar for snack (twice a day) and then dinner is 6 ounces of meat, 1 cup cooked vegetables and 1/2 cup starch. So I'm on day 5 of my 2 weeks and I've already lost 6.6 pounds so I'm hoping it's working lol I'm terrified of that happening, bc I have had some slip ups to be honest. But I hope all goes well on surgery for you!emoji173.png

Sounds good! I miss meat.... but I know that this is going to be so worth it!! Best of luck to you as well!!

I'm terrified of going in and my liver didn't shrink enough so I'll have to reschedule, my original date was april 26th but the surgery was rescheduled for June 7th bc something came up and he wouldn't be in the office. If you don't mine my asking, did they start surgery and see they couldn't do it or by ultrasound or something?

My surgeon actually started surgery! It wasn't until he got the instruments in when he realized that he wasn't going to be able to complete the surgery. I was devastated! I didn't find out until I was taken back to my room. My advice would be to stay on your liquid diet and try to loose as much weight as you can.

    Weigh in on 5/9

Hi, I would love to be your sleeve buddy! My new surgery date is June 7th! My first date was May 9th but when my surgeon wasn't able to do it because my liver didn't shrink enough. So I've been on a liquid diet since April 29th. I am so sick of chicken broth! 😉 Right now I'm drinking 3 to 4 Premier Protein shakes & all the delicious Water I want lol! My treat is SF Popsicles & SF Jello.

I had my anesthesia pre-op consult yesterday and all is set for my Tuesday May 30 surgery. I'm more excited than nervous. But...as I start Day 10 of my 14-Day liver-shrink diet, I have to admit this Liquid Protein thing is getting reeeeely old. The good news is I'm not hungry. I'm not experiencing cravings for other foods. I even lost a few pounds in a week of drinking this vile stuff! So I'll keep my focus on the positive.

Any other May 30 sleevers out there? Anyone else in their last few days of pre-op? How are you doing?

What kind of Protein Drinks are you using? I really like Premier Protein. The strawberries & cream is my favorite! My tastes buds are really funny but this is the only Protein Drink that I can tolerate. 30g Protein, 160 calories, 5g carbs, 1g sugar.

  11. Heeeey Ladies!!! I haven't been on here in FOREVER! So much has transpired since I initially created this post. Had my sleep study a week ago and found out two days later that I in fact have moderate sleep apnea - with about 18 breathing obstructions per hour. I get fitted for my cpap machine next week :/ I didn't have to gain the weight to qualify afterall. Least i know now that I'm DEF not going to be denied by my insurance. I'm still interested in sleeve sisters so hit me up!!!

I'm still addicted to youtube and have been getting a lot of support from the various clips. Congrats to all those who've recently gotten their sleeve!!! And those who've received their surgery date!!! I have two more nutrition classes to complete before they submit me for approval. Can't come fast enough! Lets see what else, I had my psych eval last month and was cleared for surgery - stressed out over that for nothing. I graduated with my MBA on Sunday, 5/21 and my "boyfriend" didn't show up. Uhhh yeah, he's out my life for good now. We dated on/off for almost 6 years, I was head over heels in love with him and hoped to marry him but I'm realizing I need someone who cherishes me and supports me equally the way I cherish and support him. Sucks but I'm glad it happened now before I lost all the weight. I feel he'll try and come around once he sees my extreme transformation - which would be a major turnoff. Uh no...anyway, let me know how life has been treating you these days/weeks/months!!!

Hey love...... Congratulations!!! I think we all stressed over the psych eval! I didn't have my surgery on May 9th because my liver had not shrunk so I've been on this liquid diet since April 29th. I have an appt tomorrow & I'm praying for a new surgery date. I'm so over this liquid diet!![emoji23] I'm so ready for the next phase. Good luck with your upcoming appts!!

Oh wow. Did he still perform the surgery? I've heard they won't if the liver is too big.

No he was not able to do the surgery! I was devastated....and I didn't find out until I was out of recovery and back in the room with my family. I've been on liquids since April 29th and I haven't lost any weight since May 9th. I have an appointment/weigh in on May 24th & I'm praying that I've lost (shrunk the live) enough to schedule me another surgery date. Y'all please pray for me, I'm trying to keep the faith!

I wasn't losing much on my preop diet either and got discouraged until I changed my mindset. I eventually cut out the Premier Protein shakes and switched to Protein Powder and almond milk and seem to be losing more than when I was using the premier shakes. In the beginning I broke down crying because my weight loss was nowhere near what most others were and had to remind myself what the ultimate goal is with that and that's simply to shrink my liver. Surgery is on Thursday so I just hope my liver is good enough to get it done and that's my major stressor right now but otherwise I feel good about what I'm doing with this preop and my progress. Hang in there and remember the ultimate goal.

I'm having the same problem. I had a surgery date of May 9th but when my surgeon went to perform surgery, he discovered that my liver did not shrink enough. I lost 15 pounds on my pre-op liquid diet but my liver was still too large. I weighed in last Thursday and I have not lost anything!!! I think I need to stop the Premier Protein shakes and switch back to the Bariatric Advantage.
