  1. I didn't have unwanted hair per se, but I seldom shave my legs anymore because body hair is very slow to grow and the texture is fine. However, since wls, my hair (on my head!) is very curly, whereas it was pretty straight before!

My very curly hair has straightened! It's hormonal. I had straight hair until puberty, corkscrew curls until pregnancy #1, straight hair until pregnancy #2, and softer curls until WLS. Maybe it'll go curly again at menopause...

  2. It's better to abstain. WLS patients are at a higher risk for alcoholism, beer has a lot of empty calories, and it's carbonated to boot.

That having been said, I've had a couple ounces here and there and it hasn't affected me. I'm very, very careful about it though.

  3. I'm really lucky. My family has been so supportive (I hope they are that way after my surgery when I get cranky lol) I live with my mom, sister, bro in law and 2 nieces. My mom n sister want to eat healthier and exercise with me, and my nieces want to be my "trainers" I am having surgery in June, I couldn't do it without them.

It's almost like our house! Here it's me, mom, sister, brother, husband, and my 2 kids!

My family wasn't so supportive, though. They're getting over it a bit now, though they're still snarky when I say I can't eat something, like it's a personal affront.

  4. I'm a little more than 6 months post op. I hit my surgeon's "success goal" about 4 months after surgery. I am at a healthy BMI for the first time in 20 years. I am now going to lose 10 more so that I have some wiggle room in the healthy BMI range. The weight loss is very slow now, and I think my body is quite happy here (so am I!). I would also like to incorporate more regular exercise now. I exercise about 70 mins, twice a week. Trying to find a third day a week. Would like to take some yoga classes as well.

I'm also 6 months post-op, and I also met my surgeon's goal at 4 months. I'm still 11 pounds overweight, though.

  5. I had to lose 10%, and it was pretty easy. I actually lost almost 30% pre-op. I got My Fitness Pal and limited myself to 1200 calories a day. It was premier Protein for Breakfast, a low- carb frozen meal dumped over a mountain of spinach for lunch, and a regular dinner, just measuring portions.

I couldn't eat like that long-term pre-surgery, but I did it for two months and lost 32 pounds. It was worth it to qualify for surgery--my surgeon is very strict with weight loss before surgery. She figures of you can't do it, you're not ready for long-term changes.
