  1. I have to track. I think it is easy to say that after surgery you won't be able to eat ___, but in actuality you don't know what you will be able to eat without being in that situation. I didn't think that after surgery I would be able to eat much, but if I didn't track I would certainly be over eating. I never had the "three bites and done" feeling that so many people have. Everyone has to do what works for them. It takes me a minute or two to track my foods so no big deal.

3/4 weight 214. I am in a slow period again, but at least I am losing
  3. Are you eating protein first? Protein is the food that will make you feel full. If you are eating junk foods then you can probably eat a lot more. Are you drinking while you eat?
  4. I had a short vacation four/five weeks after sleeve surgery. It was a lot of walking and I was fine. Immediately after surgery I was exhausted and barely got out of bed for four days. The next four days I was feeling a little better, just needed a nap. After that first week I was back to my normal schedule. I don't work so that wasn't an issue for me. I never had any gas pains, vomiting, or other side effects from my surgery. I did bring protein shakes on my vacation and ate a lot of soup as my meals. My surgeons plan has you on a regular food diet at one month, so eating a special diet was not an issue. Also, as far as bathroom issues, constipation seems to be the general rule for sleeve patients.

    Weighing in.

I weigh myself every morning. I like knowing how I'm doing and if there was any change. Maybe when I'm further out I won't feel the need to weigh daily, but honestly I don't feel like it hurts anything. I don't get upset if my weight is up a bit from yesterday, and I find great comfort in being down any slight bit, so this is what works for me.

    Protein bars and carbs

I deduct the fiber and use net carbs. I don't subtract anything else (sugar alcohol), just fiber.
  8. I set my goal. My doctor tells me how much he expects me to lose before my next appointment. At my three month appointment he said I was where he expected me to be at six months, then he said lose thirty pounds before my six month appointment. Haha. I am not sure where he expects me to end up, but I am trying hard to meet his goals.
  9. I am just about 5 months and I can eat 2.5-3 oz of meat and usually an oz or up to 1/4 cup of veggies.

    Vacation 3-4 weeks post op?

I took a four day vacation exactly one month after surgery. I didn't really have any trouble. We made sure that we ate at a lot of places that had Soup and sandwiches so that I could choose soup or lunchmeat. For Breakfast I brought Protein shakes with me. I know one dinner was a chicken taco in a bowl from taco bell (no shell, shredded chicken). My diet was just switching to regular foods (my surgeon's plan is easy). For the most part I picked the food and had a few bites and my husband and I shared meals because I couldn't eat much.

No gum allowed on my program.
  13. That is how I felt before I got the reflux medication. I would have a gnawing feeling in my stomach. No problems since starting protonix.

  17. I never threw up. I was worried about that in the beginning, but I was lucky and never had any problem. I am four months out so I think I am in the clear.

    Clothes

My clothes that don't fit were donated to a homeless shelter. They said they are always in need of plus sized clothes. I could have sold them, but I was happier to know that some people who could really use them are getting them.

    Determining GW?

I set my goal weight at 180. My starting weight was 299. I figured that 180 was a good goal because I would be my lowest weight since age 18. My surgery was four months ago and my doctor gives me a goal for each visit. My next goal (for my six month post surgery check up) is to be under 200. I figure I don't really need to set a goal as long as he is telling me what he thinks I can accomplish by my next visit. So far I have been just under what he expected for each visit. This time will be a bit more of a struggle since I am getting further out from surgery, but I am doing my best and am thrilled with my results so far.

    Barium Swallow After Surgery

My surgeon does a leak test during surgery. Maybe you will be lucky and not need the test after surgery.

    Night hunger

That is what my reflux felt like. I started a medication for it and I have been fine ever since. Call your surgeons office and talk to someone who can help you. Good luck.

    Hair growth?

Fear of extra hair growth has been the reason that I haven't taken biotin. Haha
  25. I got my date after all of my requirements. It was given to me the day that they submitted to my insurance company. It was scheduled for two weeks later.
