  1. So scared of the nausea post-op. I know it's just part of it, but really hoping they can get it under control quickly. Did everyone experience nausea or did some luck out?! Hope I'm one of the lucky ones!

9+ months post-op now and I'm not sure what you are talking about.

I never had any nausea.......at all.

    Zero.

    Zilch.

    Nada.

The only vomiting that I've experienced post op was when I had a sinus infection and had severe drainage from the meds and it made me hurl a couple times. Outside of this there may have been one other isolated case and it had zero to do with having sleeve surgery.

Don't buy into all the negative hype you read hear. I've had zero issues of any type since my surgery. ZERO complications or regrets.

Not buying into it .... Just typically get nauseated with anesthesia and my Dr indicated that nausea is also common when dealing with stomach surgery.

Glad to hear you had such great results! Hoping that I am the same.

  2. @@NewAdventure2016 That is a great turnaround time. You are giving me some hope that maybe I will get a turnaround time that is quick too!

I am a "self-pay" so that may be part of it. Had I not needed the cardiologists "ok" they could have gotten me in by August 15th.

Let us know as soon as you get a date and Good Luck!! This is an exciting journey we are on. Read via this app daily. You will learn SO much!!

  3. Well, I actually did pull the trigger, I think I was just scared. I was sleeved on 11/3 and really for the most part it was an easy process. I know a lot of people have a lot of problems, but for me it was decent.

I took the advice of many here, realizing that it really was all up to me. If I sit around and don't change any of my old bad habits my success rate will be nominal. There were so many people that lost close to if not all of their goal losses, made me realize if was definitely possible.

Thanks so much! Keep up the incentive help! I am sure I am not the only one who had these fears!

It's been quite a while, but would love to hear an update - did you exceed your 60%? If yes or no, would love to hear what you attribute your successes and failures. Hope you're doing well and if not, no judgements, just always and learning opportunity!

  5. I'm a low BMI patient.

My BMI was 35 prior to my sleeve.

I'm only 3 weeks and have lost 20lbs.

My nausea level day 1 was non existent.

My pain level day 1 was probably a 3-4.

My first stall lasted 48 hours and happened at week 2, my second stall lasted 72 hours and happened at week 3.

    Erin - 35 - illinois

    HW:262/SW: 228/CW:210

    Surgery date - 6/22/16

Thank you for sharing this! Great info :)

  6. @@NewAdventure2016 That's a pretty low BMI. You'll have to be very careful not to go to far in the other direction. Be sure to speak to a Bariatric Nutritionist to get a plan that will allow for enough good quality calories so you don't lose too much. I would encourage therapy too - as your body may change after surgery - your mind won't and you may need to address your emotions. Best of luck!

I will definitely do that ... I'm roughly just under 200 and 5'6" so actually slightly higher (32.3), but still in the lower spectrum. That is one of my fears that I will lose too much. I'm about to turn 53, and a little weight on the face is not a bad thing (stretches out the wrinkles! Lol!)

  7. Hey there, I was sleeved on 16 November 2015.

My height is 5"9, pre-surgery weight was 250 pounds. So BMI was 37.

First month I believe I lost about 10kg, second month was about 6kg, third month about 4kg.

I had two strictures requiring dilation 3 times. Then, we found that I also had a torsion in my sleeve (it had twisted on itself and would make anything more solid than milk trampoline back up). So, I was admitted to hospital 5 weeks ago (I am typing this from hospital now) and I had the sleeve converted to a gastric bypass because of the complications and being unable to eat. I then got an obstruction of the distal anastamosis as it twisted and stuck to itself, resulting in blockage. Had to go back to theatre to fix it. I'm 8 months out now and have lost 77 pounds, giving me a BMI of 25.5. It obviously slowed down when I was unable to take solids, because I was given total parenteral nutrition (food through an IV which worked out to be about 2000 calories a day). But I'm happy with the loss, not happy with all the complications and having 7 gastroscopies, 5 barium swallows, 3 dilatations and 2 extra surgeries.

Nausea level day 1 was OK, but once the anaesthetics wore off on day 2 it was HORRENDOUS. I had every single anti-emetic they could give me (I am a doctor so am pretty familiar with them!). The nausea improved after a few days but I still struggled with it after leaving hospital.

Pain was OK on day 1, again it got worse on day 2. But it was manageable with regular pain relief. The gastric bypass conversion, however, was horrific. I ended up in the high-dependency unit to get lignocaine infusions because it was so bad. I'm the kind of girl who breaks a bone and ignores it, so feel like my pain tolerance is pretty high - but the conversion was really bad,

First proper stall was about 4 months in - gained and lost a few pounds for maybe 3 weeks, but then there'd be a woosh and 6 or 7 pounds would disappear. I tried to weigh myself daily but didn't worry too much around my period as I always retain Water and that pushes the scales up a lot!

    Hope that helps! :-)

Yes! Thank you so much for sharing your story! I'm so sorry it was such a rough ride. Hopefully things are going well now?

  8. I have seen a few people have trouble stopping their weight loss - but usually they started out low and didn't have much to lose.

That's what I have read as well ... I have a starting BMI of 31.5, and although the I am not huge, I am very uncomfortable in my own skin. I've become somewhat of a recluse (outside of going to work everyday). I don't enjoy being around people anymore and just feel uncomfortable in anything but yoga pants and tshirts. I can't imagine ever getting too thin as I have always been overweight or plump. But, I guess just one of those "fears" that creeps in as we get comfortable with this decision.

  9. Hi! I've definitely had those fears as well, I'm still waiting on a date and an approval! But I definitely think that all the time because I'm one of the people who eats when they're bored! We will do awesome, I promise!

I think I have some of the same ... Mine is usually when I want to procrastinate something difficult I have to do, I replace that with grazing. My hopes are that I will be forced through my sleeve to step away from the pain that it will cause if I don't behave!

  10. I have fears also but my new fear is I won't succeed due to my support system is changing there mind and not giving me support in my journey anymore

I'm so sorry about your support system. It does produce a lot of fears from our families, whether that be fear of being left behind, fear of you dying or whatever, but I think ultimately they will be happy because we will most likely be happier with ourselves. My family had some fears initially (mostly my daughter), but once they realized it was a pretty safe procedure, they got on board. Will say a prayer for you that your support system will come through in the end with flying colors! :)

  11. Thank you for the heart info - I have a small PFO (hole in my heart from birth. About 30 years ago it may have caused a small TIA (small stroke). Have had a few minor issues over the last few years with SVT (rapid heartbeat I can't stop on my own - or occasionally can via a vega response) but only happens once every few months and is a minor inconvenience. Getting clearance (hopefully) from cardiologist in a couple weeks, but I figure worst case scenario, they'll just require an ablation to close the hole first.

  12. Looking good for an August Sleeve date - pro-op meeting next week. It's crazy, but two things have been running through my head this week. (1) what if this is just like every other diet and I'm the "one" that still can't lose weight and (2) What if I lose too much weight and can't slow it down!

Totally opposite fears! Lol, I'm sure it will all be fine, just wondering if anyone else had the same and what you discovered in the months and years after surgery?
