  1. I also found out I have sleep apnea during this process. I just got my cpap 8 days ago.

it took me a while to get into the pulmonologist so that was the only delay..and that I have to wear it for 7 to 10 days so they can read the chip inside.

    other than that..no delays.

I have to wear it at least 4 hours during the night..I've been getting 6 to 8 hours with it.

  2. Hi smills!

I have a surgery date of Jan. 9, so I'm not too far behind you. My pre op appt is Dec. 28. Need to set up my psych evaluation and nutrition counseling. I'm excited, but a little nervous too. Doing lots of reading and research.

if you haven't checked out youtube videos yet there is a whole bariatric surgery community on there!

  3. Congratulations.

I am just now starting the process. How has it been with you? I am a little nervous about the process and getting approved.

my process has gone fairly quickly. I had a bmi of over 50 so my insurance doesn't require a supervised weight-loss regimen. I just had to do a pre op and post op class..psych eval, chest xray and labs. meet with a dietician twice..in the process I also had a sleep study and found out I have sleep apnea. I just got my cpap on Friday. I also had to lose 10lbs before I met with the surgeon as of today I've lost 26.5

    good luck!!

  4. Well here's an update.... I called my insurance because I found several things on line about coverage and it was all different then what I have been told at the weight loss center even. I have BCBS of Michigan. The representative said that the monitoring period is 6 months unless your BMI is more than 50 then the 6 months of monitoring is waived. Mine is 55.4. This is the one time that being super morbidly obese has been good for me! I really need to start this weight loss journey. I am having a lot of health issues and am looking forward to every minute of becoming healthier!

I'm in Michigan too and also have bcbsm. I'm having my surgery at sparrow.

when I went to my first appt yesterday she said that if I get all my tests, and appts done I could have my surgery in 2 months. my bmi is over 50 as well.

  5. Hey everybody :)

I just had my first appt yesterday. starting weight will be 298.9 I am 5'2. I'm going through sparrow weight management out of lansing.

I found out that I do have moderate sleep apnea so will have to be fitted for a cpap.

my insurance doesn't require any supervised weight-loss..but sparrow does require from start to finish to lose 20 lbs.

my preop diet I have to lose 10 of those lbs. once I get my classes all done and the testing they said I should be able to have my surgery in 2 months.

I went for labs and chest xray and Monday is when I start with my appt.

super excited to get this rolling.
