  1. The first few weeks after surgery can be exceptionally rough. It does get better but not overnight. It took me 6 months to reach my Happy State when all the problems seemed to melt away.

Back to basics - The three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight. Meeting these three daily requirements should be your main focus. Also try to walk 30 minutes per day or equivalent exercise. Exercise will accelerate your recovery process and ease the pain that you might have experienced after surgery.

Some individuals find it difficult to meet the daily requirements after surgery. This is because your stomach needs time to heal and this can take a couple weeks or more. But just keep trying and you should be able to get there.

Be willing to experiment. After surgery, my taste buds changed dramatically. Even Water changed. In the hospital it tasted excessively chlorinated and I could not drink it. So I experimented. sugar free popsicles became my best friend. Some individuals find hot or cold can help with fluids. For me, I found that I could tolerate flavored water. So I began using Crystal Light. I also found a new drink Bai which I liked cold. In the winter, I found that I tolerate hot drinks such as piping hot cocoa. But you have to use the "No Sugar Added" variety. Also fine English teas were very good.

Great advice.... my first 2 weeks were rough also... I'm on my 3rd week I'm feeling allot better.... sip,sip,sip.....

  2. Hey Everyone, so I had my surgery on Mon-July-25th & started a liquid diet on July 24th. I am still on a liquid diet and I am 8 days post op. I was wondering how long you were on a liquid diet after surgery? I am starting to get hungry (even though most of it is my mind playing tricks), but it would be nice to have some pureed food or even yogurt! Yesterday I started getting lightheaded and it's back again today :( I am drinking my liquids, having broth, Jello, & premier Protein. Did any of you go through this?

I sure did... on mid second week i started on egg drop Soup that really helped. And sipping tea all day.. surgery date was 7-19,2016.

  3. Hi guys!!

So I received the dreaded denial. My doctor and I sent in an appeal so now I wait, again. I know the time frame is 30 days, but what is your experience with appeal time frame before you are notified?

Also, I would like to how many were approved or denied after an appeal. I look forward to hearing from each of you. :)

I was denied. Then I did a sleep study for sleep apnea and insurance approved it..

  4. I read as much as I can on here..because I have my sleeve surgery 7/19/2016. I'm excited and a little scared. I'm 48 years old (male) . Don't see many men on here.. I think my biggest concern is the mental part. My family socialize allot when we go out to eat, so it's going to be hard for my wife and kids... we do allot of hunting, fishing, camping. And on weekends I smoke a lot of brisket and other foods . So ya its going to take allot of adjusting... I was @ 328 lbs iv been on my 2week liquid/ shakes I'm 5 days from surgery and weight 306 .... so thank you all for the great info....

  5. As much as I want it, I need it!! Started the process 4 years ago and made it about 2 months from surgery and missed a monthly weigh in and next thing I knew it was a few months later and I was back in my old habits and not going through with the surgery! Well 4 years later and 100 pounds heavier I am back in it for real this time!! Not really sure what my goal weight is but would love to be around 250!! But I would take anything under 300 lol

  6. I also wondered how many other guys were having the sleeve done! I just told my wife today it seems like more women! I am still pre-op. I was 520 pounds at the start of my journey and have to get down to 450 before they will do surgery. I Have lost 48 pounds since April 4th. Hopefully have a surgery date within a few months!
