April 2006 Bandits June Gab Fest

Hey everybody! I had a great time at my high school reunion. It was so strange to see everyone looking like ADULTS. I still think of us as young and carefree. Here's a picture of the dress that I eventually chose out of the four outfits I purchased. The others have safely been returned to the stores. My credit card is very happy for that. And I had my second fill today. I'm now up to 2.0 cc and I'm down a little over 30 lbs. I think I need to go and update my weight loss on that thread. Audra *I'm the one in pink. Rhonda is the other person.

April 2006 Bandits June Gab Fest

Well, I hadn't had that much fun shopping in such a long time that I couldn't help myself. But I have my receipts for EVERYTHING and whatever I don't wear I'm taking back to the stores because I'm gonna need new clothes in a month or two anyway. :biggrin1: I'm taking everything to my parent's house this weekend and I'm gonna let mom help me make a decision about what actually looks best. Oh, and the shoes!!!! My all time favorite shoe store is DSW. I used to be safe because the closest stores were 1/2 hour to 1 hour away from me. Well, they opened one up in MY town a few months ago. I have to be sooooooo careful because I can hear the shoes calling my name. They love to see me come in there.

    What kind of pets?

I finally got my pet pics transferred from my other computer. These are my girls Chloe and Zoe. They are the "twins" from the cat that my mom has. The only differences in their markings are the hind feet, so if you don't pay attention or look at their collar you might end up with the wrong one. Chloe has the blue collar and Zoe has the red.

    April Bandits 2006 May talk

Hey gang! I started an April Bandits June thread because I was having a hard time finding this one. Can you believe it's been two months for some of us and coming up on two for the rest?? Audra

April 2006 Bandits June Gab Fest

Hey gang! My reunion is one week away so today I went shopping for "dressy casual". I came home with FOUR outfits and THREE pairs of shoes. I haven't a clue as to which outfit to wear for the big party on Saturday. I need some help in deciding what to wear but can't post pics until tomorrow. (I hope) There's no one here to take the pics once I get dressed, but my nephew is flying in tomorrow and I get to pick him up at the airport. YEA! He doesn't know it yet, but he's going to take the pics. I actually had fun trying on clothes this time. I tried on sizes I haven't even thought about in a while. And the best part of the whole process is that everything was on SALE! Now I just have to decide what to wear and then return the rest. Audra

Type 2 Diabetes: How Are You Doing?

I took my last dose of Actos(45 mg)the night before my surgery. I have not needed it since. My morning numbers are between 90-100 and I tend to stay between 100-125 after meals, unless of course I decide eat something that I *know* I'm not supposed to, then it can be a bit higher. Now I'm waiting to see if I can get off my blood pressure meds, just as soon as I see my Primary Dr. Audra

    I'm so disappointed

Musicmom, I would hate for you to put things off due to not being able to start until July 12. I understand your frustration. I teach elementary music in an inner city school and I'm going to grad school full time. The only thing you're doing that I'm not is teaching at the high school level (I just don't like that level). I started my band journey last November and started grad school in January. My surgery was in April and my first fill was in May. Yes, it does take adjusting, but if you start practicing some of the bandster habits now, by the time you are banded the transition should be pretty smooth. Notice I'm not saying that it would be a piece of cake, but it can be done. But if you do decide to wait and do Weight Watchers for a year, that's great too. Do what is best for you, but I just wanted to let you know that I totally understand. Good luck with your journey! Audra

    April Bandits 2006 May talk

Hello to all of the April 2006 Bandits! I feel so out of things as I've only been able to read and not post as much as I would like. Thank goodness I only have three more days of school with students and then one more day to wrap everything up. Also, grad school has kind of been kicking my butt lately. Nothing like trying to read four chapters, work on a project, keep the kids at school happy, and not fall asleep while doing any of it. Looks like we're all doing pretty well with things and that a lot of us have made it through our first fill. Keep up the good work everybody! Audra
  10. My first fill was today. Yippee! :clap2: I now have 1.0cc in my band. :biggrin1: *vent on* I'm on liquids for the next two days and all I'm doing is running to the bathroom and listening to my stomach growl. Today is Clear Liquids and tomorrow I start full liquids. I know that I will make it, I just haven't been this hungry in AGES. *vent off*:success1: Ok, I'm off to the bathroom. I think I saw every one available in the hospital today, even the Men's room. Audra
  11. affy, I'm also a BCBS Activecare level 2. To be honest, I have no idea what letters or paperwork my surgeon sent in. I went to his seminar and was given a "cheat sheet" of what they would be asking for. Here is what the sheet says: Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, TRS and Federal policy requirements. (Taken directly from the handout I was given at the information seminar) 1. BMI greater than 40 2. BMI greater than 35 with two of the following co-morbidities: hypertension Dyslipdemia - Lipid Panel Type 2 Diabetes Coronary heart disease sleep apnea 3. A documented 5 year history of morbid obesity BMI greater than 40 4. A documented failure of continuous months of compliance with medically supervised non-surgical methods of weight reduction and must occur under MD, DO, or nurse practioner with the previous 24 month period prior to the request. * Medifast or Optifast * Behavior modifications or behavioral health interventions *Supervised increase in activity *Pharmacologic therapy *Mantenance support to continue to encourage nutrition choices to reduce health risk factors 5. Evaluation by an independent, appropriately licensed professional counselor, psychologist, or psychiatrist who is unaffiliated with the surgical program. The evaluation must document the following: *the absence of significant psychopathology that would hinder the ability of an idividual to understand the procedure and comply with medical/surgical recommendations *Evaluation of psychological co-morbidities that contribute to weight mismanagement, and/or eating disorders *Documentation of willingness to comply with preoperative and postoperative treatment plans. 6. Growth has been completed or 18 years of age 7. Mentally handicapped patients who are unable to understand the rule 8. Patients with Prader-Willi Syndrome 9. Portal Hypertension 10. Patients over 65 because weight loss is effective. Gastric Bypass can be oper or Laprascopic Adjustable gastric banding may be eligible for coverage I'm sending you a PM with a bit of my personal information to see if any of it will help you. I'd rather not post all of that here as my post is beginning to get quite long. Audra

    Explain your name on LBT...

When you change the very last chord of the song in a minor key to a Major chord, it's called a picardy 3rd. I majored in music in college and teach elementary music for a living, hence picardy3. Also when I first moved into my very own apartment, my first cat was named Picardy. Audra

    First Fill, Freaking Hungry

Thanks Randy! Yes, I know that this shall pass. Hallelujah! Things are better today, now that I'm on full liquids. It's definitely different than right after surgery. MMMMMMMMM Campbell's Gold Label Tomato and Basil Soup! :hungry: I'm not sure about the DFW Luncheon on the 20th. My calendar is open but I have field day at school on the 19th and then our end of the year faculty party that evening. :biggrin1: I don't know how "alive" I'll be by Saturday. But if I don't make this one, I'll get there eventually. Audra

    First NSV's for me

I'm finally beginning to get nsv's. Whoo hoo! 1. I haven't taken my diabetes medication since the night before my surgery. My numbers have been wonderful, except when I stupidly try some of the foods that I know will shoot them up. I don't do that very often. 2. I wore a pair of my FITTED size 24P slacks today. :bananapartyhat: No elastic, no spandex, no stretch. Honest to goodness khaki slacks. And I could breathe all day long. :high5: Audra

    First Fill, Freaking Hungry

Your're not kidding about that! This is nothing like immediately after surgery. The instruction paper that I got at the post-op appt. states that I'm to do clear liquids the day of the fill (all day), full liquids the second day (starting at noon), mushies the third day (starting at noon), and then back to solids on the fourth day. Luckily I'm going to bed soon so hopefully I can ignore the stomach rumblings for a bit longer. Tomorrow will be the real test when I'm have a room full of students. If I can make it through that then I know that NOTHING can hold me back. Audra

    Being fat and finding love

Magsi, I totally understand where you are coming from, though I don't have a child. It is difficult at times, but I've decided that I'm going to focus on me and activities that I enjoy and make new friends. Somewhere along the way, the right man for "me" will show up. I also belong to eharmony.com. They have a very good track record. I will have been with them for a year in July and I'm paid up until January. So far I've been matched will well over 100 people. I even have a picture posted of me at pre-banding weight. I've had some not communicate because they couldn't see a picture right off the bat and I've had others not communicate because of my picture. These are the ones that I'm glad to not get to know because they are thinking of only the physical me and not the total me. It's their loss that they cannot see past the pic and get to know the me in my profile. I've also gotten to know several guys from there and I've met a few of them, but the right one has not come along yet. I'm trusting that he will someday. And if he doesn't, then I'll be happy knowing that I've taken care of myself to the best of my abilities and not wasted my life wondering "What if?" and "Where is he?" Good luck! Audra

Is it worth it to wait for a fill?

Dana, I'm getting my first fill tomorrow and it's been about 7 weeks since I was banded. I can't imagine waiting another 5 weeks as I'm trying my best to NOT eat everything in sight. I'm hungrier more often now and eating larger quantities, but nothing compared to what it was like before surgery. My fill will be under flouro tomorrow and I'm getting excited about going. Hope I sleep tonight! Audra

Yes! Finally Closer to 200 than 300lbs!!!

Way to go Dana! Keep up the good work! You rock! Audra
  20. HEHEHEHEHE I like this! :biggrin1: I danced with a gangster because I'm sexy and I do what I want. Audra
  21. I've been on solid food for about 3 weeks now and I'm losing SLOWLY. Thank goodness my first fill is next Monday. I'm doing pretty good about keeping my portion sizes down, but it is a struggle some days, so I know it's time. My first goal is to buy something new for my 20 year high school reunion. It's June 9th and 10th and I'm shooting for 250 lbs. by that weekend. That's just my goal, if I get close I still get a new outfit because I'm beginning to move down in sizes in my closet anyway and I won't have anything semi-dressy for our Saturday night festivities. I know I won't be as small as I was for my 10 year reunion, but I will be smaller than I am now. Audra
  22. Ok, let's give this a shot, especially since the three different scales I've used have all given me a different number. your weight a first dr. visit 298.5(his office) pre-op weight at hospital 306 (hospital) your weight day of surgery 300 (my house) your weight now 282.5 (my house) your goal weight 150 and then re-evaluate how much you've lost so far 17.5 (according to my house scales) So take your pick. I'm going with my house scales because I see them more often. The dr.'s office will go by their scales which are pretty close to mine. I'm just ignoring the hospital scales. Audra

    First NSV's for me

My dermatologists' nurse had lapband surgery over a year ago and we talked about mine before I went in. When I went in today, she told me she was so inspired by what I was doing that she was getting back on the wagon and had already been to her doctor for a fill. Cool! I don't know that I've ever inspired anyone before.
