  1. Dirty Martinis and Chianti and cigarettes, oh how I miss you but skinny tastes soooo much better, and I have much more money to buy all my skinny clothes with

I miss my cigarettes too. Every time I have a craving, I just remind myself that my body can't heal if it's fighting toxins from cigarettes instead. I, too, am looking forward to saving money. $16/pack adds up quickly.

$16 a PACK??? Sweet jesus....I quit smoking in '89 and they were just over $1/pack and that was outrageous to my little poor, young self!

NY has a very high tax on cigarettes. I *think* in most other states, a pack of cigarettes cost $6-7, but don't quote me on that. I know there are a few other states or local municipalities who have high taxes on cigarettes.

  2. I hate to break it to your but if you have curly wavy hair, your hair is just as likely if not more likely to grow back straight. So many of my curly/wavy friends end up with straight hair after having babies. A flood of hormones will change your hair texture.

I just wailed out loud. Say it ain't so! :(

  4. Silly, vanity post. Read at your own risk.

I've always had a dream that I could have mermaid hair. I'm not referring to the multi-colors that have become trendy over the last couple years. I'm referring to the length and waves.

Here is an example of what I mean by mermaid hair:

    http://kristinaludwig.com/ludwig/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Mermaid-mermaids-15836666-1024-768.jpg

My hair is already to my boobs, so I'm good there. It is naturally wavy and thick. However, I need it to be just a little bit wavier to achieve my vision of mermaid hair.

I read a post previously where someone's hair grew back very curly after the loss, whereas it was straight before.

My Question: Have any of you had your hair grow back wavier or curlier after the Hair loss? I'm curious if that was a one-off situation or if others had the same or similar experiences.

That's awesome. I'm very happy for you.

I went to Mexico for my surgery, so I'm on my own with everything. I've already seen a dietician who frequently works with Bariatric patients so that I can have a proper post-op diet plan. My next step is finding the therapist/psychologist. I started the search last night via Anthem's BCBS website so that I can ensure it's in-network. Now I'm in the process of reading online reviews of each potential candidate. It is very time consuming!

  6. Couldn't agree more !!!! I'm a year out and this is not support for me. I'm sick of seeing such topic on this site... I'll start going to support groups at my surgeons office. At least my time will be spent with people who really want help and encouragement. I truly feel these topic are started to be able to get attention .

Perhaps a list of topics that are permissible to you would be helpful. I'm sick of all the scolding and hand-slapping that goes on on this site. Adults speaking with adults, and you can always choose to STAY OUT of a topic you don't like. Just my .02.

I've fallen in love with you over the past 2 nights. Not real love, but like... forum love. @ShelterDog

  7. Which wine has less sugar: red or white?

Sugar content isn't really determined by color, but by how dry or sweet the wine is. Very dry to dry wines have up to 10g of sugar per liter, like a sauvignon blanc (usually around 4-5g/L). Pinot gris and viognier come in around 10-12g/L, Sauternes and Riesling are sweet wines, with anywhere from 40-200g/L.

Reds are generally drier wines, so I guess in that sense reds are going to be lower in sugar, with cabernet sauvignon, merlot, zinfandel, cabernet franc, grenache, pinotage and virtually all but dessert wines like port being considered dry, so well under 10g/L, some with none. It gets murky when you get into blends, like Apothic Red/White and Menage A Trois...they tend to be a bit sweeter, and some of it is because they're not barreled as long, so the fruit sugars are still present. In general, older (read more expensive) wines tend to be drier than young wines.

Well, that turned into a long response! I'm just a wine lover, so I like to talk about it :) Right now I've only had a bit of cheap-o pinot gris, so a little sweeter than I'd generally drink but MUCH less in quantity than I'd generally drink!

Thank you Shelterdog. This is a wonderful answer!

I'm with you. I feel a lot of guilt and shame over having let myself get this way. I wasn't fat as a kid or teenager. I had a very nice body, which is why I'm pissed at myself for ruining it. However, I am looking for a therapist right now who I can speak to. I need to figure out a way to move past these feelings, as well as get to the bottom of my emotional and compulsive eating.

If anyone knows a good therapist in Brooklyn or Manhattan, feel free to share.

  9. Prior to my surgery, my friends and I bought tickets to a booze cruise on the Hudson River for this Saturday night. I won't be able to partake in the open bar anymore which I am a little disappointed about.

I'm worried about my friends asking questions about why I'm not drinking. No one knows I've had the surgery, nor do I want them to know. My go-to drink has always been a vodka tonic with extra lime. I will instead order a Water with lime, so hopefully no one will realize that I'm not drinking. Don't get the wrong idea about my friends... they won't care whether I drink or not. They're awesome. BUT, they will have questions: Am I sick, do I need to go home, every hour asking if I'm feeling okay. I just want to enjoy the night without having to blatantly lie to their faces.

Although I'm disappointed that I won't be able to partake like I have in the past, I'm keeping my eye on my longterm future rather than just this weekend.

  10. Eeeeek! Ask your surgeon that. Is your pee light to clear and odorless? If not, you may be slightly dehydrated from surgery and retaining.

Brroth (sic) has a lot of sodium, too, so watch that!

It's both. Sometimes it basically looks like Water - very clear. Other times it's a darkish yellow. No odor at all.

I will admit to ordering Soup from the Chinese restaurant and draining the broth from it. I'm sure it has a crazy amount of sodium.
