  1. So I just Googled it and it looks like we're talking about 2 different procedures. The one my surgeon does in Dallas is covered by insurance. He's done several hundred of these. The stomach comes out through the esophagus. The one with the Spider is only coming up with surgeons in Mexico. Looks like they take the stomach out through the incision in the belly button.

  2. The only Dr I know of who performs that surgery is Dr Todd McCarty in Dallas. And it's actually 2 small incisions, one is in your belly button the other under your ribs I think on the right side, and then they take an endoscope down your esophagus. Their cash price was 11k that they quoted me. I don't know if that was having my insurance pay for hernia repair or something. You might ask for yourself. I will be having it done with insurance in January.

  3. My surgery was on a Thursday and I returned to work on the following Monday.

I'm hoping to do this. I'm going to a surgeon who does a minimally invasive procedure and it is typically outpatient. Hoping to have surgery on a Wednesday (my normal day off) and go back on Monday. I figure I probably won't be able to make it through my usual 10 hour day, so planning on some short days after I get back but I have a real vacation I want to take later in the year and enjoy my active new body on the beach so I don't want to use up all of my paid leave.

  4. I had to do six months of supervised dieting for my insurance. I actually loved that experience because I got to practice my post-surgery rules and learn a lot about what I eat. And I dropped 20 pounds! It's worth the wait, but why not see if your center offers something similar to help pass the time?

That's why I contacted them this early, in case it was required. They said my insurance didn't require it and since I'm not local to the surgeon I didn't ask if they had a program I could do "just because." I will go back onto MyFitnessPal again and try to lose a few pounds between now and then.

  5. Pre-ops and new post ops, what non scale victories are you most looking forward to?

Me, Im looking forward to the usual, being able to sit in chairs with arms, airplane seats with no seat belt extender, shopping for clothes in regular stores, etc. I'm also looking forward to:

Shaving behind my knees and getting it all

Being able to paint my toenails myself

Sitting at my job without my butt falling asleep

    Not hurting everyday

Being able to actively help on our sailboat and not feeling like a beached whale on deck.

Going on a bike ride with my boyfriend and making it more than 2 miles.

    Kayaking

(I'll post others as I think of them)

  6. Discussed it with my boyfriend. I really have to wait til next year. Patience is not one of my best virtues. I do need to work on myself in the meantime. I need to start logging my food, cutting down on carbs, find a PCP (healthy fat person here, I have never had a regular doctor besides my ob/gyn.) I just have to find the strength to wait it out. ????

  7. I got my very first high waisted bikini from Amazon on Monday, so y'all know I had to do a before and after! Can't wait for the beach in September :)

    HW: 330

    SW: 323

    CW: 155

(Sleeve, 18 months out on the 20th, no plastic surgery...yet, lol).

Ok, now I know what my goal 'outfit' is going to be. A bikini is something I've never ever been able to wear. Ever. Now I must get there! You look incredible!

  8. So I had a phone consult with my surgeon's office yesterday and today the insurance lady emailed me with what my insurance requires, which is just a psych visit and a nutritionist visit. I could be having surgery within a month. However right now I've got a high deductible plan with a really really high out of pocket maximum so it would end up costing me about $7000. If I wait until January (more likely February)to get pre-op requirements out of the way) then my max out of pocket would be $3900. So I need to wait, but I also keep thinking is 6 months of my life with better health worth $3k? I've got good credit. I've got available credit... Arghh! I'm not good at patience!

  9. 6.4 pounds in a week? I don't understand why people think the weight is going to fall off faster than that. It takes 3500 calories to make a pound. Unless someone is running marathons right out of surgery it's not really possible to lose much faster than almost a pound a day. The only other way is dehydration and that's not good. Please be patient with your new tummy. You're doing great!

  10. My surgery was yesterday at 10. Everything went well. I had trouble waking up from the anesthesia. So I slept a lot. Pain was not bad all. I had what's called the Dr. Mccarty mini sleeve so there is only 2 small incisions, he takes the stomach out through your mouth like an EGD. Less down time. 2 incisions One in my belly button and one below my rib cage. I am in my hotel room and will be driving back home with my kids today. We are in Dallas and ready to get away from all this police shootings. I haven't had trouble drinking except for the very beginning. I couldn't leave the hospital until I passed my 8oz Water challenge. And as soon as got to my room drinking wasn't that big of a deal.

I'm hoping to do the McCarty mini sleeve too! I have a phone consult with him next Wednesday. (I'm in Oklahoma)

  11. My boyfriend of 4 years is thin and athletic and has been all of his life. He was so supportive when I was trying to lose weight through diet and exercise last year, but I fell of the wagon and gained it all back. He is always trying to coax me into something active whether it is a walk or a bike ride, camping or canoeing, etc. At 315 pounds I feel like I'm disappointing him when I can't do these things. He never says that but I can't help but think it. I've finally decided that surgery is my last option. A coworker mentioned our insurance pays it. So, I've been researching for a couple of weeks. (Also tried to get surgery 12 years ago and my insurance at the time denied it.) But I was super worried that my althetic significant other would be disappointed in me and not be supportive.

I finally brought it up last night. He was super supportive! He did mention that any surgery is risky, but he wants me to be happy and healthy. I told him I want nothing more than to go do these fun things with him and for them to actually be fun for me too! We talked about what that would mean about having food and alcohol in the house and he's willing to help as much as he can.

I feel such a relief. It's going to be at least 6 months before surgery because I need to change to a lower deductible health insurance plan. But I'm starting the process now so I can hopefully get it done in January.

  12. I'm looking to get it done early next year since right now I have a super high deductible plan and need to pick a different plan next year. But, in the meantime I need to find a PCP. I'm a very healthy fat person despite a bmi of 50 so I don't have a regular doctor besides my ob/gyn. I know I need to document what comorbidities I do have and give medically supervised weight loss one more try. Who has a good PCP who is friendly to this process?
