You're be free of fear if your goal is reasonable. Can you live with a goal "To lose weight?" I'll make a crazy-wild guess that you were obese for quite a while. Is there really an emergency now to lose rapidly? If you eat well, you will lose. Make it a joyful process -- eat cheese.
I actually haven't been, I hung around 150 for most of my life and then gained 100+ pounds in the last six years. I'm very fixated on getting back where I used to be and love cheese. That's why I wanted to make sure it was low in fat and high in protein! Lol

Cheese is an excellent snack...the single serve packages are easy for portion control...take small bites and savor the taste

Yes, that's what I've been doing! Very good advice.

I f*cking love cheese!!!!
I incorporate it into my "diet" when I'm tracking and when I'm not...
Yeah, that's right...
I f*cking love it!!!!
Haha! Love it! How has it played into your weight loss? Do you think it helps or makes your weight loss slower? That's just my fear.

What's everyone's spin on cheese post op? I'm to the point where I can have it. Being a cheese lover, I think I can incorporate it in healthy meals as long as it is low fat and high Protein, but I want to know what everyone else thinks and how they've eaten cheese post op. I don't want to end up gaining weight post op. Thanks!

Hi all, I'm post op 11 days. Right now I'm still in my full liquids phase, and I made a bunch of Soup to help get past this phase. I added unflavored Protein and it has a gritty, chalky flavor which I can't stand. I love the soup, but without adding the unflavored protein I won't be meeting my protein goal. I want to give up on the 60-70 grams of protein I should be having, it sounds crazy to me.. besides the Greek yogurt and occasional Protein shake.. and then just really pick up on it when I start my puréed diet next week bc I will be able to have puréed chicken. Would this be really bad?

Hi all, I was sleeved on 12/13 and have lost about 12 pounds so far. I feel like everyone around me, on this board, on my Facebook group, has been losing way faster than I am.. I just am scared I am going to be that person who only loses like 40 pounds despite doing everything right.. Any words of advice to calm my nerves and stop worrying about the weight loss timeline? Thank you..

Hi all! Scheduled for 12/13.
When I first scheduled all of my appointments 6-7 months ago, the bariatric coordinator at my doctors said that I could do a 12/13 surgery being that my last nutritionist appt is 12/1. Now I'm really worried my insurance won't approve on time being that its only 12 days.. I have Affinity if that makes any difference.
Here is why I'm concerned:
1. I'm a student in a really competitive program and work part time, intern full time and school full time. So this is like a 2 week break where I can have my surgery and recover, and I really needed to use this time.
2. My surgeon is leaving days after my surgery to vacation for a whole month- he also only does surgery on Tuesdays. So this would be different if it was a few days, but I really need to do it now otherwise I will have to wait a very long time.
What can I do to move this process along as fast as I can? My bariatric coordinator said she will send in my stuff and mark it urgent and I have said I will call my insurance every single day until I’m approved. I’m just so nervous it won’t work out.

Hi all! Surgery is approaching for me (12/13) and I have Celiac disease. I was wondering if there was any more of me out there who could tell me if having Celiac made a difference or not during their post op experience! Thanks!

How long has it been since your surgery?
How much weight did you lose?
I am getting sleeved mid-December and was told it is realistic to be losing 100+ pounds! I am surprised that could happen and want to know everyone's experiences.
Thanks!

One more hoop gone through for the December 13 surgery. It was super easy. Glad to have it checked off. I just have a breath test and an ultrasound left.
I'm 12/13 too!

And to be honest, I think a part of all of us is scared too, because god knows this isn't our first time trying to lose weight. And we think, will all of this be worth it? I'm sure it will be. And I definitely want the surgery. I just hope with the right diet and exercise, this will work for me.

Hey! Due to certain circumstances I am able to get my surgery in October but I'm waiting until December 7th so I can have more help around the house with my children etc-
Since our surgeries are so close we should keep in context I too am nervous for some reason since it's so far out- I started this journey in July

We definitely should stay in touch! I started early July too!

I'd have to say that I was the same on one level or another. Since I followed such a strict six-month pre-op diet, I just kept moving along with what I was doing until 3 days before when I voluntarily did a liquid diet. Even though I knew the surgery was happening on September 28 (insurance approval and all), it didn't become "really real" until I started that liquid diet. And, even at that, it wasn't "completely real" to me until we showed up at the hospital that morning.
Yes, that's exactly how I feel!

I'm having a really weird thought process, sleeve scheduled 12/13. But I feel like it's not happening. Does anyone feel this way? Maybe because it's such a long way away and because I'm in month 4 of a 6 month process, or maybe because I'm scared my insurance will deny me for some reason, or maybe I don't want to get my hopes up? But I just feel kind of down about it. I've gone to every appointment and am counting down the days. Just kind of in disbelief that I'll be getting the surgery. Does anyone feel this way too?

Hi all! So I'm supposed to get sleeved in December and I have been postponing losing that pre-surgery weight although I KNOW I am capable of doing it. I just feel lost about where to start especially when it comes to exercising.
My surgeon told me that I should put more emphasis on lifting weights because that will be helpful post op, meanwhile everyone else says to focus on cardio because that will help you when you have a large amount of weight to lose (which I obviously do)
So I guess I'm trying to get an idea of what everyone has been doing, or did pre-op. I have been walking on the treadmill at different inclines and speeds (not a runner by any means) and then doing a few light weights but. I feel like it isn't a good enough routine.

Hi! I am the same weight as you except I am 5'3"! I am also getting surgery in December. My doctor just told me I should be losing 15-20 pounds before we meet again in October So I have been in the same boat as you. I am going to download Myfitnesspal and use it- some tricks I have been doing is eating Protein first, so I start filling up on that, drinking a lot of Water, having fruits and yogurt nearby for a snack, and just being conscious of how often/the portion that I eat. Lots of luck to you! I am here if you want to chat!

@@ML573663 Maybe you can just do the h pylori breath test instead. might be worth asking.
how long have you had celiac?
Thanks, I'll inquire about that. I was diagnosed with it a little over 3 years ago, but I think I was dealing with a lot of the issues for many years before that (the diagnosis was a surprise to me). How about you?

My surgeon required an upper endoscopy both for the imagery and pathology it provided as well as the h pylori test. I also did a breath test for h pylori.
FWIW - my endoscopy revealed I had celiac disease, an autoimmune disorder that I'm now treating while recovering from sleeve surgery. So the endoscopy was hugely important to me.
I have Celiac Disease too.

Hi all- my process that I must go through for surgery includes an endoscopy. I had one less than 2 years ago and the coordinator at my doctors said that it suffices. However, I have heard that for this specifically, they do an HPiLori (sorry if it's not the correct spelling) and I am concerned that it wasn't done for my endoscopy that I had. Does anyone know if this is a regular thing that they do during endoscopies? Lol may be a stretch but I am hoping someone knows the answer. I've left a message for the coordinator but she's on vacation.

My surgeon's original goal was 175, which I reached on 6/23/16. New goal is 150, and I'm hoping to be thereby my surgiversary!
I am around the same starting weight (280) and want to lose 20-30 before surgery. 160 has always been my goal! I'm really glad to see that you did it and it makes me think that I can do it too. If you don't mind me asking, did you stick very well to the diet? Aka eating a lot of Protein, vegetables, not a lot of junk food?

For those who have had surgery:
What is your starting weight?
How much have you lost?
How many months since surgery?

I'm also in the 6 month wait club. It's frustrating to say the least but I'm looking at it as a time to research and get things in order. My first appt. was July 18. Now, I'm counting down the days until Dec.
We are on the same timeline. My last appt is 12/4.

Aw well you will get there when you get there!! I have everything approved and they said they will be calling this week to schedule for mid August. It all happened so fast from my first consultation on the 11th and I'm feeling very anxious and overwhelmed!

YAYYY but this is what you wanted. Just in time for a little recovery before school starts again. I know it's not hard to stress, but remember how far you've come to do this and how much healthier you will be. It's a giant lifestyle change but SOOO worth it!!!

Since it's winter, I've been wearing a supportive sports bra (Under Armor has great ones) under my sweaters.. and then in the spring I will probably find cheaper ones I can not feel bad about throwing out!
