    Motivation

First of all, don't be so hard on yourself. It is very stressful to start a new job, even if it's something you've always wanted to do. With stress comes anxiety and typically you don't sleep as well with anxiety. I think once you adjust to your new job, everything will fall into place. Just stay on top of your diet, and try to add in little bits of exercise here-and-there. Park farther away at the store, take stairs instead of the elevator, jog in place during commercials. Give yourself a couple of weeks and then hit the gym again. You will get there!!!!!

    Crying on the bathroom floor

I hear what you are saying and I'm very frustrated too. I had surgery on Nov 1st. I lost 27 lbs before surgery and I've lost 31 since; However, for the last month I've only lost 4 lbs. I'm afraid I won't lose any more!!! This has greatly affected my emotions. I've really had to reel myself in, so I don't turn to food. I KNOW I am doing everything RIGHT, so I'm trying really hard to just let the process work for me. I must have really unrealistic expectations. There's no turning back so the best I can offer is be patient with the process, exercise 4-5X a week, drink tons of Water, eat your Protein, log EVERYTHING you eat, measure/weigh your food and say a prayer. Best of luck to you and everyone else on this post struggling. I'm right here with you

When am I allowed to do thing ?

I was only able to lift 10 lbs until week 9. You have a very deep stitch that can really cause you problems if you don't follow the advice of your Dr.. For some, this deep stitch pops/heals within a few weeks, for me, it took 9 weeks and I wasn't advanced in my level of lifting, until that point. You have to remember that even though it doesn't look like you've had much done on the outside of your stomach, your insides have had severe trauma!! 80% of your stomach was removed and you have several internal staples. My Dr. said I have 3 rows of staples down the entire length of my stomach. You have to protect yourself. You MUST follow the advice of your surgeon or you could put yourself in jeopardy. Please be safe.

    Smoking proof of quitting

Your surgeon's office should be able to answer this question. I'm sure they have dealt with it in the past.

    Sugar free candy

I would stay away from sf candy. Most of them have sugar alcohol and to your body, it still processes like sugar. Sugar alcohol makes me crave more sugar. Also, check the fat grams/calories. Often if sugar is removed fat is added for more flavor. It sounds like a slippery slope to me.
  7. Because you have had MAJOR trauma to your stomach and it needs to heal! You have 3 rows of staples across the entire length of your stomach. Your small stomach cannot process and digest food like it could pre-sleeve. You have to give it time to heal. You MUST follow your surgeon's prescription (not recommendation), or you could put your health and life in jeopardy. This is a good time to practice your will power, as you are going to need it during this entire process. Every day I want something I'm not suppose to have and I resist. I can eat any texture of food that I want now, but that doesn't mean I eat anything I want.

    255 Starting Weight ?

When I started the pre-stages of WLS (August 2016), I had a BMI of 37. During the pre surgery and pre-op liquid diet, I dropped 27 lbs, placing my BMI at 33 on the day of surgery. Yes, weight loss is slower when you start at a lighter weight. My surgery was Nov 1st. Since that day, I've lost 30 lbs, with a combined total of 57 lbs. I now only lose 1-2 lbs a week, if I'm lucky, and I stick to my program very strictly. I have hit 3 different stalls since surgery and I'm only 9 weeks out. I only want to lose about 25-30 more lbs so as long as I'm going down, I'm happy.
  9. I never took any pain meds after I left the hospital; However, the deep incision caused me pain with activity (exercise) for 9 weeks. At 9 weeks, that stitch popped and I had immediate relief. I can now exercise with much greater intensity with no pain. After surgery, I wore my stomach binder any time I walked for the first 2 weeks. It provided great relief.

    Lost my insurance POST OP

With my surgery, the first 3 months of follow-up appointments were covered with the surgery charge. I would definitely ask your surgeon's billing office if this in your case too. I've read on here where several people had f/u visits included in their surgery price.

    Change in diet

Do you still have your gallbladder? Fatty foods would make me deathly ill?

    PB&J

There's a difference of being cleared for all foods and eating all foods. I'm on regular texture too but my plan calls for no bread, potatoes, corn, peas, or any other refined carb. These types of food will sabotage your weight loss efforts. If you feel you have to have it, eat PB2 powdered peanut butter mixed with whole fruit spread. Don't eat the bread, at all!

    Question for newbies and vets?

If you have a refrigerator, I would suggest greek yogurt, cream Soups with Protein powder and cottage cheese. Everything else pretty much requires processing.
  14. I just came home after being gone for 10 days. I am 2 months post op. During that time, I will admit I did find myself occasionally get grouchy because I couldn't eat those things I used to eat. However, I did stick to plan and I tried to walk as much as I could. Now during this time, even though I stuck to plan and walked I didn't lose any weight. I'm sure I had Water retention and I was just out of my normal routine. I am a low BMI now, so my weight loss is slower too. I've been home a week and I've now lost 3 more lbs. Being on a cruise for me, would be difficult. THERE'S SO MUCH FOOD!!! I bet you can do it though. Make use of the gym, walk around the ship, do physical excursions. PLAN, PLAN, PLAN. I like the saying, "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail." Also, while I was on vacation, I took my food scales and also Protein drinks. I didn't care if anyone noticed I weighed my food. I won't see them again. lol

    Eating out

I have found that right now, eating out isn't enjoyable for me. I am a little more than 2 months post op, so I am very aware of anything and everything I eat. I think I feel this way because I have old memories about my favorite places and I really can't have those foods anymore. I'm OK with this. I'm a new, healthier me. I do like Buffalo Wild Wings and they let me eat off of the children's menu. Their naked tenders are delicious and very moist. I also eat some of the carrots and celery. I usually get one of their dry rubs and dip the end of the tender in it, for some spice. I find this enjoyable. This kid's meal give me 2 meals. Once I reach maintenance, I will expand my choices, but I will still be cautious of the underlying fat and sugar. @Babbs. I think Babbs probably is the best resource here, as she's maintained her weight loss for over 2 years.
  16. Cottage cheese is easily tolerable. I also ate Greek yogurt, a little non-fat refried Beans with plain yogurt on top. Ricotta bake is good but don't go too heavy on the sauce because it may cause more acid this early out. I didn't get very adventurous as I was still trying to adjust to food being in my stomach.

3 weeks out and need advice

I put the dry Hidden Valley Ranch powder dressing on my cottage cheese and it's wonderful. I probably don't use more than a tsp. I also used/use quite a bit of Mrs. Dash, as it's salt free and she has many different flavors. It really helps liven up your food.

    Wedding dinner advice...

When I know I'm going to have trouble finding something to eat, I take a Premier Protein shake with me. Not much fun but it's on program and it keeps me from eating something that may cause me to fail. At 2.5 weeks out, you can't take any chances eating a texture that your Dr. hasn't approved. It's way too dangerous! I was on purred foods at that time, and I primarily stuck to cottage cheese, yogurt and tuna salad. There's no way I could have handled any more texture than that. Good luck tomorrow!

    Failing at Friendship

I agree that some people act differently toward us when we are thinner, but I also know I acted differently when I was heavier. When I'm heavy, I don't want to do a lot of things my friends do. I would get pissed off easier at the world, when I was hating myself. There were times I was pretty damn miserable and I know it reflected outwardly. The saying that nobody can love you if you can't love yourself is really true. With your new life, you will now shine outwardly. You will probably be more approachable and you will want to try new experiences. Think of all the positive things that are going to come your way, because you've changed your life. You got this, girl!

Tummy Tuck and Inner Thigh Lift

Tummy Tuck and Inner Thigh Lift

I had a tummy tuck 12 years ago, and it is low at my bikini line. It went all the way around my body but it's virtually unseen now. I've NEVER seen a tummy tuck where they split you from top to bottom!!!!
  22. Armygalbonnie

    Stupid question

Yes, all liquids count but you need to stay away from juice. Too many carbs, sugar and calories.
  23. Armygalbonnie

    Rice?

If you sprinkle DRY Hidden Valley Ranch dressing on most food, it makes it delicious! I loved it on canned tuna, chicken and cottage cheese. Not the liquid dressing but the packet of dry mix.
  24. I never had any gas pains. I did have pain but it was totally manageable. I know there is a recommendation for Gas X, but this won't help with the gas they put in your stomach for surgery. Gas X works in the intestines. The gas they pump you full of is in the stomach cavity. Just walk, walk, walk. That's what I did and everything worked out great!
