    Judgmental ppl

Don't tell her, plain and simple!!! This is YOUR journey. You don't need her approval/disapproval.
  2. Absolutely not!!! This is a bad habit to start. You need to take this time to change your relationship with food, where you eat to live and not live to eat.

Meal ideas and do's and don'ts for food ?

I eat a lot of chicken, ground turkey burgers without the bun, lean steak, tuna, eggs, veggies- all kinds, fruit and I drink a daily protein shake. Occasionally I will eat turkey chili without beans. I'm not allowed peas, corn, potatoes, rice, pasta or any other refined carbs. Occasionally I can have whole grain carbs (max 2X a week) which may include steel cut oats, beans, quinoa, barley, etc. Also, I eat sugar free popcycles every night. It's my dessert! With the ground turkey, I add taco seasoning and make shell-less tacos. I also make chili. I eat roast, porkloin, and all other types of lean meat. I eat salmon, tilapia, and tons of grilled shrimp. I am 3 months out. With the exception of the no carbs, I eat quite a variety of foods.

    Sonic and straws

My Dr doesn't allow straws. I would check with your surgeon. Also, I can't have caffeine so even tea at Sonic, won't work for me. I had some Crystal Light the other day and I later learned had a little caffeine. The entire day I was uncomfortable and had more reflux than usual. Just not worth it to me.

    Psychological evaluation

Mine asked if I used food as a coping strategy and what would I use instead once I had surgery. Also, she discussed addiction and transfer of addiction after surgery. I had done this in the past. I'm a food addict but then I transferred my addiction to exercise. When I got hurt and couldn't exercise like I was, I went back to food. She had me think of our activities that I could do, instead of dumping all my eggs in one basket. She wanted to make sure I had realistic expectations with surgery, knowing it's a tool and not a cure all.

    STOP IT!

Doesn't it feel amazing to get rid of the "fat" clothes? I've been giving Goodwill bags full. The other day I found more size 16s and I'm a 12/10 now. I don't want that negative talk in my closet. Congratulations on your success!!!
  7. I would try Stevia. Sugar and sometimes sugar substitutes can trigger carb cravings, so just be careful with it. Have you measured yourself? People say muscle weighs more than fat, but that's not accurate. A lb is a lb. A lb of fat weighs the same as a lb of muscle; However, muscle is more dense and takes up less space. That's why you can lose inches when you gain muscle, without the scale moving. Maybe if you see these NSVs, it will motivate you and provide you with positive reinforcement. Good luck!

    Advice

Don't tell them. I didn't tell my dad or a couple of close friends because they are all judgemental. I changed my eating habits 2 months before surgery so they saw me change my eating habits prior to surgery. I will never tell them.

    Autoimmune Disease

I have RA and I had the sleeve done on Nov 1st. I haven't had any set-backs. If anything, my joints feel better because I've lost 62 lbs and I work out 5X a week. I did have to go off my meds for a month before surgery and 6 weeks after but fortunately, I didn't have any set backs from it.

    Sabotaging myself?

Some people deal with chronic depression their entire life. It's truly a chemical imbalance and a brain-thing. It doesn't sound like the Welbutrin works well enough for you. Hopefully your Dr will consider changing your meds. If you can't get the chemicals right in your brain, it's hard to control any other part of your life. I really wish you the best.
  13. Don't go get defensive. I had surgery on Nov 1st, started the new diet August 1st. I'm just saying having a little dumping syndrome isn't a bad thing, if it will help you stay on track.
  14. Sleevers can have dumping too. I say you're blessed because if you are already eating sweets this soon after surgery, you need a reminder not to do it. I only have mini-dumping if I drink my protein drink too quickly.

I believe they can also do a peer-to-peer review, where your surgeon talks to your insurance company. Some insurances just do this, in hopes you will change your mind. I know how excited you are to get this ball rolling, but often we have to sit back and wait it out. Good luck with everything.

    Crackers

Also, once you get to regular foods, you can try the parmesan crisps. Many have talked about it on here. You can make them yourself or buy them at various stores.

    Help: crunchy

You just have to work through it. You're on pureed and can't have anything crunchy until you get to unrestricted food. I would suggest ice chips or popcycles. You're stomach is healing and you cannot take the chance of damaging it. Just remember, this is only for a short period of time. You have to pull from within yourself, to fight these urges.

    Insurance denied

Let your surgeon's office work their magic. They have been doing this for many, many patients and they know how to word things in your favor. They KNOW the insurance companies. I truly believe it will all work out for you.

    Insurance won't pay

If it's not a benefit from her insurance, there have been a lot of people on this site who have gone to Mexico, had wonderful care and the price is much cheaper. My bill here in the USA, was over $29000.00. Thank God my insurance paid for it. If they weren't going to, I would have headed to Mexico.

    Crackers

I bought some Spinach and Kale greek yogurt dip at Trader Joes this weekend, and I ate it with the mini bell peppers. I scooped out the peppers and used them like a spoon. It was sweet, crunchy and hit the spot. It was a great replacement for crackers/chips.

    Crackers

Crackers are a no-no on my plan. Empty carbs. You will have to work on these cravings by finding other things and activities to occupy your mind. You definitely can't have them on a pureed diet but you don't need them either. I know head hunger is hard and cravings are tough, but you need to look at the big picture. Cravings are going to be a part of your journey but if you let the, they will sabotage your weight loss efforts.

    Curious

I would think more women who get the surgery because we are typically more concerned and obsessed with our weight. I could be wrong though. I just googled it. The most recent study reports 80% of WLS patients are women.

3 week mark - ate too much.

I get the hiccups after every meal. Most meals I don't even finish. My typical meal is 2 1/2 -3 oz protein, 1/2 veggies. Should I be stopping sooner? I'll be 3 months out next week?
  24. I am 53 years old. As I'm losing weight (61 lbs now), I'm actually looking younger. I really think it's because I don't look so tired and worn out. I'll post pics on Feb 1st, which is my 3 month date.

Anyone had thoughts of not doing surgery ?

I had these same questions go through my mind; However, I stopped and realized that even though I lost 27 lbs prior to surgery, there is no way I could have maintained that limited amount of food with a normal sized stomach. Even though I did great pre-op, I was very hungry. In time, my hunger would have won over. Like others have said, I have lost the same 50 lbs numerous times, but I haven't maintained the loss. My sleeve is a tool that I can now use to help me maintain what I lose.
