Must follow everything to a "T" or I'm gaining weight
Armygalbonnie replied to Kelleylu's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Drinking beer and eating everything you want is what got most of us in the position of needing WLS. You know what you need to do to lose weight. Get in your Protein and Water, watch your carb intake and exercise. The sleeve is a tool and not a magic pill. -
What are you eating on a daily basis? Are you getting in your protein and water? How many carbs? Are you exercising?

How are you eating at 7 months out ?
Armygalbonnie replied to biglady904's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
WOW, that's awesome!!! You have done a great job! I have about 25 more to go. I still stick to those foods that I know I'm comfortable with, and I haven't been too adventurous. -
How are you eating at 7 months out ?
Armygalbonnie replied to biglady904's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Here's a different way it is made: Method: Heat a large non-stick sauté pan over medium heat. Evenly sprinkle your grated cheese around the base of the pan. Depending on the size of your pan, you may need to occasionally adjust the pan over the burner, to ensure that it cooks evenly (this means moving the pan around the burner ... one side may cook quickly, so move the side that ISN'T cooking quickly over the center of the burner to catch it up, etc.) Continue to cook over low-medium heat. The cheese will melt and melt together. It will eventually begin to fry and darken. Once the cheese has a firm "crispy" look to it, but before it burns, pry it out with a heat resistant plastic spatula and IMMEDIATELY drape it over an upside-down bowl. It should form to the shape of the bowl and quickly begin to harden. Allow it to rest for a few minutes, or until it's sufficiently chilled. Repeat the process to make more cheese bowls! -

It can all be very confusing!! Are you still trying to lose weight or are you at maintenance? I think that will make a huge difference. You are right that it's hard to find options that are both low in carbs and fats. Sometimes we have to create our own recipes. I saw one recently that looks really good, that might help you with your taco craving. I saw where someone took cheddar cheese and spread it out on parchment paper. They put it in the microwave and melted it. Then they laid the melted cheese on the paper, over an upside down bowl. The cheese hardened and formed like a bowl. After it hardens, fill the "cheese bowl" with all the ingredients used for a taco. I'll see if I can find the recipe and attach it. If you haven't already joined, go on Facebook and join Rock's Kitchen. The administrator had WLS and wonderful recipe ideas are posted every day. -
I am 3 1/2 months out. I will lose weight 1 week and then stall for 7-10 days. I've been doing this since week 2. The scale continues to go down, sometimes very slowly, so I'm happy. It's just part of the process.

Who had gerd before sleeve or developed gerd after?
Armygalbonnie replied to sally628's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No, I don't regret the sleeve. GERD is treatable. I initially wanted the bypass but I have an auto immune disease and I often have to take steroids. You can't have steroids with the bypass so my surgeon said I would have to have the sleeve. -
Who had gerd before sleeve or developed gerd after?
Armygalbonnie replied to sally628's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had GERD prior to sleeve and now it is worse. I have to take Dexilant every day and for the first 2 weeks after surgery, I had to take liquid Carafate to help control it. Hopefully it will get better in time. I'm 3 1/2 months post-op. -
Do you use this?
Armygalbonnie replied to OhHeyMarina's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have it and used it one time to order off of the kid's menu. Most of the time I just order from the regular menu, because my husband will eat my leftovers. The food never goes to waste. I don't like drawing attention to myself, so that's why I just order from the regular menu. I've been selective in who I have told about my surgery, so I don't want to have to explain why I need a smaller portion. I never over eat, so the temptation is not there. My sleeve definitely tells me when I'm full. -

I am 3 1/2 months post-op and I've been on stalls as many weeks as I've lost weight. It's just part of the process. The scale continues to move down and my clothes are getting bigger so it's all working out. You just have to be patient and follow your program. Make sure you are eating your Protein, drinking your Water and avoiding carbs as much as possible. Also make sure you are working out 4-5X a week.

I never thought I had sleep apnea either and I do have it. My husband says I don't even snore. I had the study done before I started the process as part of my veteran's medical evaluation. I told them they were wasting their money because I knew I don't have it. Man was I surprised!

I'm happy for you!!! I really wish you the best.
-
@@njgal You don't have any co-morbidities? I was only a BMI of 37, but with my sleep apnea, GERD and rheumatoid arthritis, I qualified. A lot of people have sleep apnea and don't even know it.

Sleeve with GERD?
Armygalbonnie replied to SunshineUnicorn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@WhtWdUGive620 I actually drink the CL without caffeine but it's very acidic to my system. I also can't drink diet lemonade from Chick-fil-A or any other no calorie drink that has citrus in it. -
I think you will sabotage your weight loss efforts. You should be focusing on proteins and non-starchy vegetables Noodles are all carbs. I can't have any refined carbs on my plan. I guess if your plan says it's ok, then go for it; However, be prepared for it to slow down your weight loss.

Super Bowl food/drink
Armygalbonnie replied to bossportsgal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would never drink alcohol 3 weeks after surgery!!! I'm 3 months post-op and I still haven't. You need to check with your surgeon before doing anything so drastic. -

Not too bad for a 53 year old G-Ma, who was morbidly obese just 3 months ago. Now I'm just overweight and 20 lbs from being within my ideal weight range. I want to lose about 25 more. -

Pre liquid diet, pre op
Armygalbonnie replied to sassy_tiffanyga's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Protein shakes are a must have. You have to make sure you get adequate nutrition. Chicken broth, popcycles and water are what I used. The first few days will be tough but then your body will adjust. Just remember the big picture. Good luck! -
Sleeve with GERD?
Armygalbonnie replied to SunshineUnicorn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have pretty severe GERD but still got the sleeve. It's usually not recommended, but I have an auto-immune disease and I take steroids. You can't take steroids with RNY, so my surgeon said the sleeve is the best option for me. My GERD has gotten a little worse, but I just take my Dexilant every day. I do have to avoid acidic foods. What really gets my GERD going in overdrive is Crystal Light. Odd, huh? -
Fortunately my insurance paid for everything. If I were you, check and see what your insurance/surgeon requirements are first. Waiting 3-6 months is actually good, because it helps you get in the right mindset and teaches you what you need to do to be successful with a sleeve. If you have to wait years, I would suggest looking at Mexico. I only say this because I've read where many people on this site have gone there and they've been very pleased. Also, my bill here in the States was $29,000.00!! That's a LOT out-of-pocket! Good luck with your journey.

Super Bowl food/drink
Armygalbonnie replied to bossportsgal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Absolutely NO to alcohol! Your stomach is still healing. You will put yourself at risk for an ulcer. Soda Water? Are you allowed to have carbonation? I say eat before you go. I'm sure you can do a chicken wing but they are fried and probably won't settle well. You have to be easy on your stomach. At 4 weeks I was on soft food. I couldn't have tolerated any of this.
