My Diet Coke has been laid to rest........

There have definitely been trying times but I'm very proud of myself. I have so many routines and memories associated with drinking my DC. Time to make new memories. -
My Diet Coke has been laid to rest........
Armygalbonnie posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good Morning All, I met with the dietitian for the 1st time yesterday. She was awesome! She gave me a list of goals that I have to have met before I meet her again next month. No more carbonated beverages (goodbye to my BFF, Diet Coke), no alcohol (no problem), work toward eliminating caffeine, 1 Protein shake a day and DIET, DIET, DIET! She told me I need to lose around 10-15 lbs before surgery but I can't lose more than that or I'll be below 35 BMI. This is going to be tricky! The diet is very strict and I don't see how I will only lose 10-15 lbs. I feel completely motivated! What a great way to break the Diet Coke and sugar habit! I know it won't be easy and I already warned my husband that I may get cranky, but I CAN DO THIS! -
Time frame from 1st appointment to surgery
Armygalbonnie replied to annieway2lose's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my consult on 07/22 and I'll have surgery in November. About a 4 month process. -
I will be having surgery in either Oct or Nov and I'm in a similar situation as you. My husband tells me he loves me the way I am, but he supports my decision for surgery because he knows it will help my joints. He worries about me with post-op pain; However, I've had numerous surgeries and I can handle it. I do worry that my husband will get jealous though, once I start losing weight. He already is!!!!! I don't want to lose weight for another man's attention but I know that will be on his mind. I just have to find ways to keep reminding him how much I love him. I know jealousy is not a good quality but it's part of his upbringing (Latin) to take care of his wife and I believe this is where it arises. He just doesn't want anyone to disrespect me or our marriage. It's going to be interesting.

@@theantichick, WOW, congratulations on your weight loss! I'm still a few months before surgery, but I've had some of the same thoughts as you. I've been on the pre-surgery diet for 3 weeks now and I've lost 14 lbs. I started thinking, "Do I need this surgery?", but like you, I know better. I had lost over 100 lbs by myself 10 years ago, and now I'm right back to where I was. I can lose short term but this is about the rest of my life. Now the trick for me is I can't lose but a few more lbs before my final NUT visit, or I'll be below 35 BMI. I knew this would happen only eating Protein, veggies and very few carbs. I have to be careful not to lose any more. Doesn't that sound RIDICULOUS???? I have to be careful about not losing to much weight!?!?!?

Unjury is so nasty
Armygalbonnie replied to myfatisnotaflaw's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like Protein shakes with 1/2 a banana. Also, I put in 1T of sugar free pudding powder into the blender and add ice and Water. It makes it creamy like a milkshake. -
Dr's attitudes on coffee are sooooo different. My doesn't allow caffeine. When I went to the support group on Thursday, I asked the NUT why. She said there is risk for ulcers so they don't allow it. Thank God I was able to successfully eliminate caffeine from my diet. It hasn't been easy as I still want it but I'll survive.

Worried about gas pains after surgery
Armygalbonnie replied to ChristinasSleeveStory's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to my required support group last Thursday and gas pains were discussed. My surgeon's nurse stated Gax X won't work because the gas is not in your bowels/intestines. She said the only thing that works is walking. After surgery, she stated I will be up walking every 2 hours. She said if I follow this protocol the pain will be less severe and gone within 24 hours. If you don't walk, it will last 48 hours. Years ago I had a female surgery where I had the gas put into my stomach. Nobody warned me about the gas bubbles. I got about 1/2 way home and thought I was having a heart attack. So glad I am pre-warned this time. -
Post surgery: When you say you have a hard time getting it all in.
Armygalbonnie posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've heard many people say that right after surgery, they have a hard time getting in their Protein drinks and Water. May I ask why? Are you full after a couples of sips? Is it painful? Are you nauseated? Preparing myself for reality. -

For the constipation (I didn't even think about that), is it recommended that you take a stool softener?

I'm over my hips hurting when I sleep and even walk. I'm over having difficulty breathing because I'm too fat! I'm over hating the way I look in clothes. I'm over not going places and seeing friends because I'm too ashamed of how I look. I'm over not being able to do the physical activities I want to do because I'm too heavy. I'm over about being worried about my future because of my health.

You are GORGEOUS!!! -
This is how I mourned giving up my Diet Coke. I was an addict. As of today, I am 17 days free. I switched to unsweetened ice tea (don't care for it), and each few days I would decrease the amount I consumed by 1/2, until last Friday where I quit caffeine all together. Last week I was HORRIBLE to be around! Every single person in my life got on my last nerve! As of this past Monday, I've be without moodiness and/or a headache. It was really easier than I expected. I look back now and think, "WOW, my body was addicted to chemicals and caffeine and that's not good!" I feel better now and I'm definitely not crazing the refined sugar as much. Good luck with the trials and tribulations in which you are about to embark. You got this!

You will definitely get great support here! I'm being very selective about who I tell that I'm having surgery. I don't want any negative Nellies ruining this for me. -
That's a good question. I look forward to hearing some of the responses. My psych eval is scheduled for Sept 8th.

I'm having to drive 1.5 hours one way, to see a good surgeon. It is worth the time, gas and effort to feel comfortable with my decision regarding surgery. I don't know New Jersey but I'm assuming there is a bigger area you can travel to, for services. -

Go to that person's profile page by clicking on their user name. At the lower end of their page, you will see where it says, "Add me as a friend.". Click on that, and there you go..... Hope this helps.

My Diet Coke has been laid to rest........
Armygalbonnie replied to Armygalbonnie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
UPDATE: 2 weeks Diet Coke free!! I'm quite proud of myself. Also, 3 days caffeine free. Breaking myself from the DC was easier than planned. I had a stomach bug for almost a week and I had no desire for it. Lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
