I'm on the 2 week pre-surgery diet. I feel like I am STARVING!!!! My patients keep telling me I need to eat, because they are hearing my stomach grumble. I'm dedicated so I won't sway from the right thing, but my goodness I think my insides are eating each other.

No more weight loss
Armygalbonnie replied to cheryl417's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@ShelterDog64. As of Sept 30th, Fort Sill no longer does ANY type of surgery. We have changed to a super clinic. We don't deliver babies either. My PCM here at the Army hospital sent me to a bariatric clinic in Norman. The dietitian strongly believes that Breakfast should stay a MR shake because it has good Protein and Vitamins. She states that it is hard to get good, healthy breakfast foods that won't compromise the need for low carbs and fat. I'm sure eventually one could move away from the shakes, but I actually enjoy them and they are a part of my daily routine now. -
No more weight loss
Armygalbonnie replied to cheryl417's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will have my surgery on Nov 1st. Since 1 August, I've only been allowed whole grains 1-2 X a week, AT MOST. Even after I have surgery and I am on regular foods (6 weeks post surgery), I will still have limited carbs (whole grains) 1-2X a week. I will never have mac & cheese, frozen processed food, etc. Also, I am required to drink a Meal Replacement shake once daily, for the rest of my life. You honestly can't wonder why you aren't losing weight, eating what you are eating?!?!? I hope you get back on the wagon, and follow the program like intended. Good luck! -
Blessings and well-wishes coming your way! I'll pull up a seat next to you in 2 weeks. Keeps us posted on your recovery.

Thank you everyone! The anxiousness of it all hit me full force last night, but I'm better today. I am fortunate in my pre-op diet that I still get to eat until the 28th. I do hope to lose 5 to 6 lbs more before surgery. For you all who are having surgery the same day as me, CONGRATULATIONS and you got this! For the veterans, thank you so much for your encouraging words and wisdom.

What else can be added to protein shakes?
Armygalbonnie replied to ncqt1973's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I really like the premier shakes but in the liquid form. My NUT said the powder form doesn't have all the nutrients needed after WLS. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I will be on liquids for 2 weeks after surgery too. Stay strong! You can do this!!

It just depends on your situation. I told my boss pretty early on that I would be having surgery the end of Oct, early Nov. I carry a patient caseload that is usually booked out 4-6 weeks in advance. I had to prepare in advance for my surgery, so I wouldn't put undue stress on my co-worker. This way I also told my patients that I would be out for surgery and there will be a few weeks where I am unavailable.

Gas-x, should I use it?
Armygalbonnie replied to LittleLizzieLilliput's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If it is from the gas they put into your abdomen for surgery, Gas X won't help. If it's because you are swallowing air, then yes it should. -

Pain drinking anything...3 days out
Armygalbonnie replied to addiesbigdaddy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't know about your plan, but Protein shakes will go toward my daily liquid goal. So if you drank 60 oz of Protein shakes, you got 60 oz of liquids. Also, my NUT said that for the first week post op, drinking Water is the priority, to help avoid dehydration. -
Abdomen feels like I'm going to give birth
Armygalbonnie replied to mallnut's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You've had a tremendous amount of trauma done to your insides. Also, your Dr. filled you with CO2, to expand your abdomen, in order to get to your stomach. This is common with any abdominal surgery. It's also common to gain weight during this time because of the swelling. As others have said, walk, walk, walk. Good luck with everything. -

BMI of 21 getting gastric sleeve... thoughts?
Armygalbonnie replied to iloveorganicmilk's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This is a joke, right???? Why do people troll? If this is a "real" person, I would be praying that the Dr. who approved to do this surgery is actually board-certified and licensed.
