  1. I was hoping your surgery was the end of Dec. I'll be in Tucson for Christmas. I would come get you. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  2. The max of fluids I was able to get in on day 2 was 16 oz. Nausea and pain were always present. I think most will agree that you won't be in any shape to stop pain meds. You are about to have MAJOR surgery! I easily think you will be able to give your insurance 48 hours notice. Good luck!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    So Humiliated

But you are closer than you realize. I had to wait 3 months, and it flew by. It also gave me time to plan, practice and get to know the changes that are going to be a part of the rest of my life. This is a life journey! I don't like cliches' but the saying, "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail" truly relates to this process. Take this time of waiting to plan and set yourself up for future success.

    Lemon water

I would avoid it if you're dealing with any GERD. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  6. I bet you are dehydrated. I'm not a Dr so it's only an uneducated guess. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  7. There is NO WAY your hospital will allow this!!!! You will still have anesthesia and pain meds in your system.

    I'm devastated

I am so sorry. I hope the appeal process will go quickly and work in your favor. Your surgeon's office knows how to handle this and I'm sure they will get the ball rolling. I'm really surprised your surgeon scheduled your surgery prior to insurance authorization

    Insurance Requirements?

My insurance had minimal requirements but my surgeon had her own. I was required to do 3 visits with a dietitian, spread out over 3 months, a psych evaluation, physical therapy evaluation and attend a support group. It took me 3 months to complete everything and I had surgery on 11/1.
  10. It's taken me 9 days post op, but I finally feel GREAT! As soon as I started taking liquid Carafate to help with acid, I feel like a new person! Now I can start enjoying my new journey. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Fluid intake one week post-op

Are you getting in Meal Replacements? That counts towards liquids too. So do popcycles, Jello and yogurt. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  12. Call your surgeon and ask for liquid of Calfatrate. You take before meals and at bedtime. It coats your stomach. I'm 8 days post op and started it yesterday. It has helped me tremendously!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    VSG Surgery

I had surgery Nov 1st. So far, the worst thing for me is severe acid reflux. Good thing, lost 8 lbs the first week.

How long will this process take?

For me, I started the process on July 22nd and had surgery Nov 1st. About 3 months. The time actually went by very quickly. Good luck!
  17. This hunger you are feeling can definitely be acid!! I'm dealing with the same thing. I started a new stomach coating medicine today and I pray it helps. I have 8 more days of liquids. I want food too but the idea of damage terrifies me and I'm very dedicated to my surgeon's plan. Please talk to your Dr about the possibility that this may be acid. 18. I am one week post-op and I'm really suffering with acid. I didn't have a hernia but history of GERD. My surgeon started me today on liquid Calfrate, to coat my stomach. I'm hoping this will help. The constant gnawing feels like hunger. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Soft food and protein

How about soft, flaky fish and cottage cheese? Can you eat these? You can add the unflavored Protein to all your Water and this will help get it in.
  20. Handed out 1400 bags of Halloween candy today, in support of B.A.C.A. - Bikers Against Child Abuse. My husband sent me this picture. I've lost 25 lbs since starting this journey, but I have a long ways to go!!! This is my pre-surgery picture. Surgery on Tuesday. I'll take prayers.

    Middle of the night gnawing....

Called my surgeon's office. She called me in a prescription for liquid Carafate. Thank you everyone for your help. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  22. Hi All, I am 6 days post op. I'm still trying to learn the signals that my new stomach is giving me. I have one thing that is really bothering me. During the middle of the night, I have such an intense gnawing in my stomach, that it wakes me up. It's very uncomfortable. The only way I can get it to settle down is to eat or drink something. Is this hunger? Acid? Gas? Is this mid-night snack something I'm going to have to continue? I am taking my PPI. Meeting my liquids goal. Almost meeting my Protein goal. Just a few grams short. Any advice is appreciated. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Middle of the night gnawing....

I'm sure that's what it is. I may go ahead and call my Dr and report it. My post op is the 17th but that's too many days of discomfort. Thank you so much for the helpful advice. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  24. I had surgery on Tuesday and all went well. I really thought I had myself prepared for this. I have felt much worse than expected. Day 2 was the worst but I'm slowly getting better. I have to keep reminding myself that what I am going through is short term and I do this by going back and reading everyone's success stories. I can see the silver lining. Harder than I thought....

I had my husband hide the scales. My first f/u appt with my surgeon is the 17th. That's when I'll get weighed. It will drive me bonkers but so will my obsession with thinking I need to weight every day.
