    Pre-op Diet, Day 5

Great job. Do you have different types of protein shakes, that has made it easier for me. I have the normal chocolate and vanilla but also the syntrax nectar which helps mix it up. I think you could also have chicken broth with unflavored protein powder and this would count as a shake but you should probably ask your surgeon's office. Sometimes the shakes are just TOO sweet. It is amazing how the weight drops with the pre-op diet. I'm on day 5 too and I'm exhausted. I am drinking the shakes and water but I am horrible with the vitamins. I need to get one of those pill organizers to help me remember.

Spouse says to stop losing weight

If your BMI is not yet in the healthy range, then you still need to lose weight and that is what I would tell them. You did this surgery to get healthy and look better. Also, have you had your blood work done to make sure you are getting enough protein and vitamins that is why you may look tired.

    Getting excited

It is a great idea. I'm doing the same thing, I started my pre-op a week early and when I met my surgeon he was really happy. The more weight we lose before surgery will prepare us better (smaller liver and less fat located in stomach) and less weight to lose after surgery.
  4. I would call your insurance company and ask if you need to use your surgeon's NUT, my guess, is NO. Also, that is crazy she doesn't take insurance! My nut was with my surgeon and included.

Has anyone kept it a secret?

It is not a secret! It is a decision not to share private medical information. It is the same as Hipaa, which we sign at our medical offices.

    April sleevers!?

Purchase thigh-high compression stockings, anyone over-weight should always wear them flying to avoid deep vein thrombosis.

    Pre op Liquid Diet Shakes

I was also told Premier isn't whey isolate, which is preferred to concentrate. I am using Unjury and Syntrax nectar for pre-op.
  13. As a 57 year old mom of 4, I am so jealous that you have the opportunity to have this surgery and get this tool to get healthy and stay healthy. You will avoid all obesity related health problems but even more important YOU will be there for your kids in so many ways. I got too fat to ski, go on hikes and even travel if it involved a lot or walking. I missed part of their lives because of my weight. When I was a young Mom I still could do everything but when I hit 30 it started going downhill. GO FOR IT!

Day 8 of pre op diet

Ketosis, and Yes, it is disgusting. I saw some posts how people deal with it on the website, I remember the advice to stay away from certs or other small breath mints because it possible to start eating too many. I have carried small disposable toothbrushes in the past while dieting.

    Pre op fail

In my opinion there are two reasons the pre op diet is so important. 1. Health, smaller liver, easier surgery, and health benefits. 2. Are we ready to get healthy, change our relationship with food and learn to control our food addictions. I would call your surgeon's nurse and discuss it with them, but maybe you aren't quite ready to make the commitment needed for success. I'm on the pre-diet right now, my stomach is growling and I know how tough it is to say NO, but we must. Good luck, I am sure you are not alone!

    Need encouragement [emoji34]

I copied this from Chelly a member on this site who has had gastric bypass a few years ago. STOP IT NOW UNLESS YOU WANT MAJOR PROBLEMS...... What you are doing is very dangerous and you can destroy your insides badly. You are acting like a bulimic person with making yourself throw up. You should not be eating Kraft mac & cheese that's not good for you in any shape or form. You should not wait the three weeks and you should call first thing in the morning and talk to the surgeons office and tell them what you have been doing to yourself. They will probably not be happy at all that you are making yourself throw up. You must stop immediately so you don't do harm your body and permanent damage.

After my gallbladder operation which is also laparoscopic I slept in a lazy-boy for a few days. I could not get comfortable in bed. I'm really happy I still have that really ugly chair!

    Gastric Sleeve

My nutritionist told me to wait on the patches till there is more research. She joked since we take vitamins the rest of our lives there will be many advances. I currently have barimelts for B12, vitamin D, biotin and calcium. I still taking a capsule for my multi vitamin but purchased powder I can add to water while I'm on liquids and puree.

    Let's celebrate small victories!👍👍

That is wonderful and a real victory! I can't believe how far you walked. My knees are shot from being too fat for too long but my victory is going to the supermarket and still have enough energy to run some more errands.

    Not sure what to expect

That is wonderful that you want to lose the weight and get healthy. It is easy to get to the first class then every insurance has different requirements and you will learn about your requirements at your 2 hour weight class. Many of us have 6 months of nutrition where we learn how we need to eat once we get our sleeve. Good luck on journey. I'm getting sleeved 4/17 and I am so excited.

  24. My physician and most bariatric web sites say 60% for the AVERAGE, this is the chart below: 1. What is your ideal weight? There are a few common ways to calculate ideal weight. This calculator shows your ideal weight for all of the different methods to determine this number. I typically use the largest number, which is usually the high body mass index number. 2. How much excess weight do you have to lose? Current Weight – Ideal Weight = Excess Weight 3. How to calculate your expected weight loss: Excess Weight x .60 = Expected Weight Loss 4. How to calculate your new weight: Current Weight – Expected Weight Loss = New Weight After Surgery
