  1. Tracy I hope it continues to progress smoothly. I agree it does help when your doctor knows tricare well.

Singerbabe, I am tricare west too but I dropped to standard just so I could pick my surgeon. They said that they deal with tricare standard often.

I have my psych evaluation this week and I have my first consultation with the surgeon tomorrow. My bmi is 40.75. I am hoping that everything keeps falling into place.

  2. Djmohr, I love all of your advice because all of your post I have read are very helpful. I was hoping that head hunger or mental hunger would get better in time with the surgery. I am in the beginning phase, I have my psych evaluation this week and I plan on inquiring about therapy for the coming year to help with head hunger. That is my biggest fear and concern with me.

  3. @@flip26 I am truly lucky to have had essentially 0 complications and bumps along the way. I never had food intolerance, vomiting, stricture, dumping, or any of the other common things you hear people talking about. I have had some mild hair loss but no one has noticed except me and it lead to the best haircut I've had in years!

My main challenge has, and always will be, myself and my will power. I have had some hangups here and there where I allowed myself to have "a little of this" or "a little of that" and ended up in a month long stall -- for no good reason but my own lack of control! A few bites here and there adds up to no weight loss (and can add up to weight gain if you don't correct yourself)!

I am back on track, counting my calories, carbs, and Protein meticulously and have finally broken through my stall! I have lost 9.6 pounds in 16 days just by getting myself focused.

Did overcome the willpower by your self or with counseling?

I am just starting my process. I am thinking about getting counseling for a while to help with my willpower.

  4. I am in Hawaii. I would have to use a military hospital if I don't drop to standard. While I am not taking anything away from the doctors at the military hospital, I have always received excellent care from my pcp. I have just had bad luck with the 2 surgeries I have had and both surgeries were performed by military surgeons in 2 different states. It could just be my body and both surgeries were emergency ones, but the only way I was able to get DH on board was to go the civilian route for his ease of mind.

I just got my pcp to sign the form that the civilian surgeon needed and I go to the info night on July 13. I am very excited. I bet you are excited for your surgery. What is your bmi at if you don't mind me asking? Mine is at 40.7

  5. Let me update on my Tricare /Sleeve journey. I was APPROVED for the sleeve thru Tricare. I had to follow my surgeon's orders. I did NOT have to have 6 month diet, did NOT have to have 2 wk liquid diet prior, did not have to have sleep study (doctor's choice as I do not have sleep apnea). I did need to have the psych evaluation done. I have surgery July 8 -- in 2 days!!!

Is your surgeon a military or a civilian doctor?

    So happy for you.

  6. I know this is a person question but can i ask what your bmi was? Mine is 40.3. I feel like i should gain some more weight. I know they put you on a liquid diet for preop and that will make me lose weight and be under the required bmi the day of surgery.

I was at 41.6 I think. But I also made a conscious effort to gain about 10 pounds before my consultation to ensure I was over that line. They used the weight from my first appointment.

That is where I am at. I felt the need to gain 8lbs to put my bmi at 40.7 for my appointment with my pcp to get my referral in for wls. I am going for my information class on July 12 then I get to schedule my consultation.

  7. I am like you, I can loose but then I regain for me it's a cycle. I don't think I am more prepared, I started trying to lose weight with my doctors supervision back in November never planning on doing WLS but in march the doctor brought it up to me but I wasn't emotionally ready but I decided this last month I was ready and I like the idea of the VGS. I am excited about this choice and the life long lifestyle that it will offer.

I would love to hear how your july 11 appointment goes

  8. I am in the same boat with you. I walk a 3 mile loop 5-6 days a week and still haven't been able to loose weight. I just got my referral from my pcp for the vgs and I have my information class schedule on July 12. I have also have documentation of failing to loose weight under a physician care. I am hoping to get things checked off quickly. My bmi is at 40.7.

    I am excited for you.
