Telling or not telling can be a stressful decision for some folks.
How about just keeping it quiet for now.....have the surgery.......begin losing a good deal of weight.....find your stride with your new life and then decide whether or not to tell later on....once you are on course towards your goal weight.

I have a feeling that anyone who would be unsupportive about this decision also would have found a way to be unsupportive or nasty about losing weight with a traditional method. So screw 'em.

I'm not telling a soul. The only people who know are my medical team and the wonderful people here on this forum.
Adjusting to my new lifestyle will be difficult enough. I don't want to also go through the emotional turmoil of dealing with unsupportive people and their unwelcome opinions.
Will things change a year or two down the road? I don't know, but I'll cross that bridge if or when I feel the need to open up.

    Hi everyone,
I wanted to know if anyone else is not telling anyone about their surgery? My surgery is Sept 7 and I have only told need to know people.
3 years ago my husband committed suicide leaving me pregnant and caring for a one year old. I was so busy I forgot to eat and ate once at night. I gained 150 pounds in 2 years. I don't have any help or support but my mother in law.
Soon after I started having major health issues. Doctors have given me multiple disease diagnosis' and then would take them off the table. (Including Lupus, Hughes Sybdrome, etc.) Basically not knowing what's wrong with me. All of my doctors have signed off and feel comfortable with me going forth with the surgery.
Last night I made the mistake of telling one friend and was immediately bashed. I purposely didn't want anyone else's thoughts or opinions because this is MY decision and I've never been more certain. I plan to continue improving my health but right now this is part of it.
I don't like feeling bad about something I feel so good about.

I actually always feel like that about anything that I don't cook at home. It just grosses me out to the point I don't want anything.
My husband eats out a lot and he is always asking me if I want something and now I just give him that look like, are you for real asking me if I want to eat crap?
When it comes to my own cooking, I am happiest. I know exactly what is in my food and I cook about 98% clean. I do not use prepackaged foods especially if I am eating it. Every once in a while I do make a box of Kraft macaroni and cheese only because my family absolutely insists. I might eat a forkful and then remember why I don't eat prepackaged foods.
    Ugh!

Are you postop? I had my surgery on July 11 and i feel the same way. I would much rather just stick to fluids and skip eating. But... We have to get our protein in order to heal properly. My nutritionist told me today: look at food like medicine. You just gotta get it down! Good luck!

@@Djmohr just scared the hell out of me.
I have noticed I have to be careful how I sit at my desk or my butt hurts, I mean aches after a little while. I attributed most of this to just sitting differently because I have so much room in the chair.
This thread gives me a lot to think about.

Look back and say, "Slow down, Tiger".
Perhaps this will ease your tailbone pain.
Sorry, couldn't help myself. I'm in one of those goofy moods. Everything is a base level humor topic for me this morning. I'm mentally drained from the workweek and looking forward to some puberty-level fun this afternoon, evening up until my old arse turns back into a pumpkin as the play energy runs out......
You are simply losing some of your padding. That's all that's happening.
The good news is that you'll find yourself sitting down less and less. You'll be wanting to move, move, move all the time. It's your body changing and giving you new superpowers. Roll wid it, child, roll wid it.

    Well, this problem isn't absolute.
I had the tailbone pain problem about 50 pounds down. I've since lost another 50 pounds (total of 100 pounds) and have maintained at 135 for 7 months now.
During the last two years post-op I've also walked a lot more than I had for years, done a lot of physical work on our farm, and am now doing some serious yoga work that is building considerable ass muscle.
My tailbone hasn't hurt for over a year.
You'll find as you go through WLS and losing weight and maintenance that you may experience a lot of phenomena that are not permanent. How you feel today is probably not how you're going to feel in a few months / years.
    Good luck.

ONLY 37.5 pounds? That's a lot. See your doctor. They may be able to give you some exercises to help. A round of physical therapy could help, too. It did for me. Your body is adjusting to shifting weight. Try some sort of back support when sitting. Congrats on your progress!

Maybe it's the reduction of "padding" that's giving you this issue? Sitting will be different with weight loss

I had surgery on the 7/11 and was supposed to have my post op on 7/19 but didn't make it cuz I ended up back in hospital.. But long story short I had it today so a little over two weeks.. But I'm down 27lbs.. I notice it in my legs and arms and face but barely in my stomach area even tho I notice it in the way my clothes fit.. Regardless I'm so happy I made the right decision!! Thanks everyone on here for helping me with my journey along the way!!

The only thing that limits you to only losing 60% of your excess weight is you. I've lost over 100% and am maintaining easily. I eat whatever I want whenever I'm hungry....protein first, then veggies, fruit and whole grains. But I also eat ice cream, desert, bread, alcohol, cake, etc.... just everything in moderation. I do not excercise and I've never tracked or counted or measured my food. I didn't have surgery just to be on a diet the rest of my life. I do make sure I drink at least 64oz of Fluid and I do take my Vitamins (but I've always taken Vitamins, so this is no change)
Other than making much healthier food choices, my life isn't a whole lot different than preop. Unless you count Having a normal BMI, shopping in regular stores for clothes, not being in pain everyday, spending a lot less money on groceries, and being able to hike, climb stairs, etc without getting out of breath, Perhaps I am an anomaly, but I just wanted to let you know that there is more than one way to be successful and postop life does not have to be all that complicated.
