You do this the same way you do anything new. One step at a time. You'll have a whole team supporting you in the hospital. Go with it and you'll be fine.

I had awful issues with my band. I NEVER got to the sweet spot. I threw up after every meal, every day. Worst decision I ever made. I ended up having it removed after a year and a half of zero weight loss and misery. The surgeon who did my band is starting to discourage patients from getting the band. I'm in the paperwork phase of getting a revision to bypass.

TAKE PICTURES... 1 day before surgery vs. 11 days out.
Who knew this is what a 15 lbs weight loss looked like. Sometimes seeing is believing.

I made it! Had a rough day yesterday but I feel much better today. Doctor was able to remove the band get me sleeeved all at once! The hospital was fantastic, I was just uncomfortable with the gas and the port incision, but other than that I'm good! Thank you for your best wishes!

I had same issues with my band. I had it 3 years and had 1 cc put in it, and threw up for 6 months until they took the Fluid back out. I still preceded to vomit. I went to a new doctor and I got approved through Aetna to have the band removed and revision to sleeve, that was in March 2016. My first appt I was 200 lbs, I am now 164. I am so grateful I had the surgery. Best decision I have ever made. No problems with any foods. I even had steak 2 weeks ago with no problems. I will tell you, that you cant eat a lot of food. It is way different than the band, but in a very good way. Good luck with your appointment. I hope you get approved.

Hey guys. I am new to the forum. I had my band in 2006 and initially had great success. I went from 185 to 130 but then started vomiting. They loosened the band completely and I have gained most of my weight back and am miserable. Recently started having bad pain behind my sternum. Had an endo done last Friday and I have a class C Esophageal erosion (class d is the worst). He sent me to his bariatric surgeon friend who I am seeing tomorrow. He suggested the band be removed since it is causing me to vomit daily (thus eroding my esophagus). I want to talk to the surgeon about revising band to sleeve and I am so excited for that possibility....and I am soooo ready to stop throwing up daily.
Im hoping the surgeon will agree, that insurance will cover it ( I have Aetna) and that he can get me in for surgery next week!!! I'm overly optimistic and hoping I am not let down. Is revision surgery from band removal to sleeve much more complicated and more expensive? And could everyone who has had it share their stories???? thanks so much and I was soooo happy to find this forum. FINGERS CROSSED FOR TOMORROW. So tired of hurting and being exhausted from dehydration. ready for a new me!!!!

If you didn't misunderstand what he was saying then, IMHO, the only thing that is 100% is your surgeon is pulling numbers out of his a$$.
Google JAMA articles on WLS studies and articles by leading WLS bariatric centers of excellence, they contradict him regarding his percentages of excess weight loss with the VSG.
Does everyone reach their goal weight per the BMI charts? The answer is no. But people do reach weights they are comfortable in maintaining
Do some people regain part of their excess weight lost? The answer is yes.
The gastric bypass isn't 100% effective, but some studies show it more effective than the VSG in excess weight loss in the short term, but longer term studies show they are just about equal.
Do your research including maybe seeking another surgeon.

I was banded for 8 years also and then it failed. I had a good experience with the band until it failed. I have other medical issues with Barretts esophagus and too much stomach acid so insurance approval was pretty easy for me. I was sleeved 2 years ago. My weight is wonderful again. I'm 6 ft 2 in and weigh 210 lbs. I feel great. I love not having that port in my side anymore. The only thing that I don't like is food. I can only eat a very small amount and nothing really tastes good. I can taste it but I guess what I'm saying is that nothing really appeals to me. I used to love sitting with friends and eating and drinking alot. They are used to me not eating much at all and have stopped trying to get me to eat something. I think you will like the sleeve much more. I can tell you that with my complications , the surgery took 4 hours and the pain for me afterwards was incredible. For about a week I drank liquid morphine and stayed as drugged as possible. The pain eventually left and I survived it. Most people had a much easier time with the pain than I did. Once you get to the 6 month post op date you will be used to it and pretty happy. Take care.

kgarrettsatx reacted to Heather Feather in Anyone with successful weight loss with the gastric sleeve that had NO success with the lap band?
Yes, right here! While I lost 85 lbs initially, the complications I had with the band (inability to eat due to getting stuck on freaking Water, constant vomiting, hernia, constant pain, etc) caused me to have to get the band completely unfilled. This lead to a 50 lb weight gain. While my band was unfilled, I did three rounds of Insanity, Weight Watchers, South Beach Diet, T25, did 5Ks twice a month, and STILL gained all that weight back.

Now that I've had the sleeve about two months, I've lost 57 lbs with very minor issues (reflux, but it's treatable with an acid blocker). I wish I'd done the sleeve the first time, but I always have to do things the hard way.

Do what is right for you, but go in with your eyes open. I wish you the very best of luck!
    Heather
