    New Question- FUN

Well...It could have been "Fat Bottom Girls" by Queen a few months ago. I embraced the fact that I had one and they made the rocking world go round? BUT, I no longer fit that description at this stage and after WLS. Let me think on this a while.
  2. Today started off pretty negatively...Rushing to work and I received a ticket for improper lane usage. Guilty. Traffic has been terrible since the flood and Ms. Impatient tried to get around it by riding in the turning lane for a few feet. Duh! I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon and WLS support group tonight. I hope better things unfold! Have a great day all.

hmmm, in the past you could have faked and said you are having a baby - now you enjoy your baby tummy LOL sorry for ticket - you are doing great with weight loss - keep it up (down)!!! good luck - kathy

Thanks proudgrammy. Great WLS group tonight. Guest speaker was a Clinical Exercise Physiologist. I learned about belly breathing and my core. Woo hoo...I think I need a personal trainer now.

  3. I had wonderful results with my post surgery blood work - my glucose was much lower as were all the cholesterol readings! I have to wait nearly a week to see my doctor again. I'm a little anxious that the BUN Bld and ALT results are high. Is this normal for bariatric patients? Just curious. I started googling to see what this meant and these readings have something to do with your kidneys and liver. I'm not even sure if I have been tested for this before.
  4. @@Bonnie in La This is awesome! Be sure to message me if I can answer any questions for you. I am a few days shy of 12 weeks post surgery. I spent less than 24 hours in the hospital - I had it done at Women's in Baton Rouge. I had excellent care. If you are nice to the nurses they will bring you your favorite popcicles. I was all pumped just like you are and was very calm regarding the surgery because it was a much needed to get me on a new track! I was back at work after two weeks. Keep the positive attitude and it will go very well for you.

    Under BMI

I think my BMI was 37 but I was a self pay.
  6. Congrats on your good news! Is your La for Louisiana or Los Angeles? I'm in the best LA...South Louisiana, where people are friendly, it stays warm year round, and food is always good. lol
  7. So sorry that you are starting this with the complication of endometrial cancer. I wish you well with both surgeries. The initial weight loss comes pretty rapid for some. Hopefully, you will be able to get the hysterectomy soon. May God bless you!
  8. @@nicugal36, I wondered about caffeine's diuretic impact. Thanks for sharing. I do get dehydrated as I do not enjoy water that much. I try to limit myself to no more than two cups of coffee per day. I love the Chike coffee protein shake as well. I was a huge caffeine addict...going from coffee straight to diet soft drinks all day long. I still crave the ice cold and carbonation but have not had a diet soft drink in almost 4 months.
  9. My sister and niece both had the gastric bypass surgery several years ago. Honestly, I was a tad jealous but never pursued it. I tried many years of dieting and failed. I actually knew multiple people who had the gastric sleeve. One in particular was so enthusiastic that I decided to go to a seminar at the local hospital. I also attended support group a couple of times before making the decision. I was a self pay. Going to the support group was awesome. I've never met a single person who regretted their surgery.
  10. I am in week nine post surgery and really sick of eating eggs, yogurt, and Protein shakes. I still enjoy the fruit. I am craving carbs for the first time and broke down and bought the low carb Protein Bars on this website. Feeling very guilty about it. My dietician said to avoid rice, Pasta, bread, potatoes, and starchy foods altogether for the next six months when my weight loss will most significant. Is this one person's opinion? Can I eat a Protein Bar or oatmeal occassionally if it's in moderation?

  12. Tough week in Baton Rouge, helping friends who flooded pack up their undamaged belongings, carrying wet furnishings to the curb, and tearing out floor and sheet rock. Hopefully tomorrow I will be back to eating normal.

Thanks all. You know I feel very blessed that I was able to help and that I was not affected by the flooding other than being inconvenienced by road and store closures. It's been crazy and stressful BUT I am optimistic that next week will be much better. #LouisianaStrong

  13. I'm just curious if anyone with with restless leg syndrome has experienced an increase in leg pain since their WLS. I am 8 weeks post surgery and still taking Requip but the leg irritation seems to start earlier in the day. I had hoped weight loss would put an end to this. I know it's early in the game, my weight loss is good, but not significant yet. I've bought a tens machine, take hot baths at night, use the Requip and apply heat ointment on my legs, taking Vitamin supplements, take Hyland's tablets, and I just don't know what else to do.
  14. @@reeniemay, I'm guessing not all dieticians think the same! Mine insists that we not weigh ourselves daily (that is hard...and I DO cheat), don't count calories, just count protein grams and avoid the starches/carbs that I listed. I sure wish I could eat something crunchy! lol
  15. @@LipstickLady and @@Babbs You ladies crack me up! That is an amazing rack however! Jealousssssssss

      Cervidae

This is one of the biggest undertakings any person can possibly experience, and it's also a period of huge, rapid change and hormone surges and difficult emotional situations... it can be tough sometimes to remain tough-skinned and objective when bluntness is directed at you, however well-meaning. I do hope some of the vets will remember that sometimes, and remember how sensitive they may have been in the beginning. Still, they mean well and are a huge wealth of information if you're willing and able to take everything with a grain of salt. Hang in there! I'm a year out in less than two days, and I can say for certain that it does get easier, and it does get better! :) Stay safe!

This surgery is stressful enough, then add a natural disaster on top and no wonder you took things to heart. It's hard to know someone's intention on a message board!

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I'm out of my house for the first time since Friday! In some places, it looks as if nothing happened - God made it drier, the skies bluer, the grass greener, and the air fresher. I look forward to helping friends who were flooded. I believe there are messages created within a mess. Quoting a Kelly Clarkson.."What doesn't kill you makes you stronger!"

  19. Stacyrg2, I will gladly explain my response to Bufflehead. You think I am being ridiculous? She was rude to me... She didn't really give much thought to responding to my post that clearly asked the question... If there were any dieticians out there? She made accusations that I was eating to be entertained AND that I trusted strangers more than my dietician. I don't have a problem with eating something other than a traditional breakfast but because there are three meals and Protein requirements in each of them, I need some variety. By the way, I don't like tuna or salmon. I really just want a dietician to tell me that oatmeal and protein bars sold on this website might be an option for someone at my stage, post surgery. I guess I'll email my dietician and hear from her in a few days. Unfortunately, I live Baton Rouge, LA where flood waters surround us. I can't even leave my house and thought that interacting with others would be helpful. Apparently not... My mother always said if you don't have something nice to say...say nothing at all! Maybe the best response would have been to ignore her and you for that matter. But? Not feeling it today. Too many other things weighing on my heart and mind.
  20. I'm in South Louisiana...I might try the Shakshuka (Cajun Style!). I've been eating omlettes!
  21. Bufflehead, are you a dietician? You seem awfully judgmental regarding my post. I was inquiring on the safety of Protein bars being sold on this legitimate Bariatric website AND I asked if there were any dieticians in my headline if you had noticed. I TRUST my surgeon, the dietician, and the PA who is mostly who I see. I don't trust strangers but I am kind and considerate to them. You apparently didn't fully read my post because you are suggesting that I eat salmon and tuna for Breakfast and made the assumption that I eat for entertainment. I don't eat for entertainment, I eat to survive. What in the world is wrong with wanting to do something new with a breakfast that is ho-hum and repetitive?

    Would you do it again?

Yes, I would do it again. I'm only 8 weeks out but I returned to work after two weeks. I'm 54 and that recovery period was enough. Two months will be fantastic. By that time, you will exercising and eating normal...or at least your new normal. Attend support group meetings offered by your hospital. They will give you confidence and reassurance that you are doing the right thing. I did. Good luck!

    My own personal nightmare

Sorry to hear about all your surgeries. I guess I have been very fortunate. I hope this is the beginning of a healthier and more enjoyable life for you. The gastric sleeve will give you the start you need to reduce food intake and lose weight. I have been successful in losing 32 lbs in 8 weeks. Sounds like we are about the same age - menopausal, prediabetic, and thyroid issues as well! This has helped me where other diets failed. You literally can not overeat unless you are willing to face the consequences...nausea, acid reflux, and the worse...vomitting! The first phase is the hardest and I'm sure you will be fine once you are past that. I drink and change up my Protein shakes for variety. You should see my collection. I think Chike is my favorite brand - strawberry and the coffee are awesome. I actually have not had much hunger. At 8 weeks I eat three times a day and drink two Protein Shakes in between. I get "head hungry" and want to eat what other people are eating around me but have managed to do well and only cheated a couple of times. I REALLY miss bread, rice, potatoes, and Pasta. Pasta...oh, how I love pasta. But I am determined to lose this! I can't wait to go from obese to overweight and from overweight to normal. Yea buddy! God bless you!

    Starting My Journey 5/28/16

Tammylynnwoods, 60 days post surgery and I am doing much better! I take Prilosec daily to address the reflux issues I was having. I've lost 32 lbs which is not bad considering I was a self pay with a lower BMI than most. I went back to work at two weeks. I did just fine. I guess my age made it a little more difficult initially. Surgery changes your life and you adjust.

    Anyone with RLS out there?

Qwalla, I can't believe your doctor (assuming not your primary but surgeon) would take you off your RLS meds. I'm not really not sure they do that much good but am scared to NOT take them. How are your legs feeling?
