  1. Esophageal spasms are abnormal contractions of the muscles in the esophagus (the tube that carries food from the mouth to the stomach).

These spasms do not move food effectively to the stomach. Causes, incidence, and risk factors The cause of esophageal spasm is unknown.

Very hot or very cold foods may trigger an episode in some people.

    Symptoms

•Difficulty swallowing or pain with swallowing

•Pain in the chest or upper abdomen

•It can be hard to tell a spasm from angina pectoris, a symptom of heart disease.

•The pain may spread to the neck, jaw, arms, or back

Doctor said was side effect of surgery that they see occasionally.

  2. Better with each day, unfortunately for me I have the side effect of esophageal spasms. Hurt so bad. So doctor moved me back to Clear liquids only and have to do a barium swallow test Tuesday at my follow up appointment. If they can make it go away without additional surgery then I will stop regretting the surgery lol.

Pre op appointment 12-4-12 weight 198.5

    Surgery weight 12-10-12 weight 195

    Yesterday on home scale 190

So slowly moving the scale even hardly being able to drink.

I'm on myfitnesspal as asherje We can lose together :)

  3. All your stories are keeping me motivated when I just wanna break down and cry from these esophageal spasms. After years of dealing with lap band complications to have the revision Monday and end up with a possible side effect.

Since we are all around similar weights thought it would be fun to add each other to our fitness pal apps to support each other.

  4. What ever you do dear lord do not try and sleep in a high bed lol. My 5yr old always sneaks into bed with me when my fiancé is on duty. He did not like the idea that need to sleep on the recliner, so being the softy that I am let him sleep in my room, was a B to climb in it, it hurt. Well then it was time to take my pain meds.... I was a turtle on my back, almost had to wake him or call my sister to come over, but finally slid to edge to grab nightstand and roll. Talk about pain! Don't know if my son crowing in labor or that was worse pain lol!

I wanna say surgery Monday, pain till about Thursday night. Today other then the bed thing abdominal pains were gone. Just tender.

  5. I was the 10th, went home Wednesday. I'm miserable, having esophageal spasms. Most of the gas pains have subsided. I'm just so miserable, I don't even want to try drinking anything. I've been decent at sipping Water, was suppose to start full liquids today but doctor wants me to stay on clears to help the spasms, I follow up with them Tuesday and another barium swallow and see what's the status of my sleeve. I'm regretting ever doing this.

  6. Sleeved Monday dec 10th, still in lots or pain & suffering extreme nausea from time to time. How long did it take for nausea to go away?

Also have random sharp pain in my chest/throat area, feels like I just swallowed a bowling ball, it's an intense searing pain that leaves as mysterious as it started. Anyone else with this? Could it be gas pains from being inflated during surgery moving around?

  7. Hi there luvs! I was revised from band to sleeve dec 10th at memorial Herman hospital in the Texas medical center. Hurt bad still, can't stand up straight from the pain on the right side. Have hard time with liquids, only because my band sutures had broken so band was in wrong spot cause dilation of my lower esophagus.

I get to start phase 2 tomorrow
