  1. I'm working through the guilt of cancelling a long awaited family vacation and losing a ton of money we can't afford to lose because my surgery was scheduled for August 22, right in the middle of the planned vacation and two days from my husbands 50th birthday. (I don't want to put it off because it's already super close to when I have to return to work).

I am really improving in my preparation and mindset. Getting used to getting fluids in, watching my Protein intake and learning new ways to cope with life beyond turning to food. I had already done away with straws, soda, gum and caffeine.

My win is also my challenge incidentally. Not only did I happen to pick a great man who is supporting me 100% despite losing his vacation, birthday and literally thousands of dollars BUT I am seeing it through despite my tendency to bury my needs under the needs of my family. I am finally taking care of what I need to be happy.

Christina, so sorry about your daddy... There are no words. I'll keep you in my thoughts.

Cervidae, ironically it was physical therapy after shattering my leg that led me to lose 111 pounds the last time I did it - I am certain you will get right back on track as soon as you are cleared to exercise. Which will also help with the anxiety and mood swings I'm sure :)

    Kristen, I'm with you...waiting sucks.

  2. I also used a breath holding technique to get over nic fits. Suck in as much air as you can and hold. Suck in more in little sips until you are over inflated. Hold for as long as you can. Let out air slowly and you will feel great!

Completely unrelated but incidentally this technique is also very effective at getting rid of hiccups....

I quit 8 years ago using chantix but I want a cigarette every single time I see someone smoking. I just have to remember that it would only take one for me to become a smoker again.

  3. I'm a teacher and because of an insurance glitch couldn't have surgery scheduled until August 22. I go back September 6 so I'll only be out two weeks. Sucks cause I'm pretty much just hanging around right now...

My first week back should be pretty light. 2 pd days, 2 half days then a three day weekend so I'll have 3 weeks before I'm in the thick of it...

    Hopefully it's enough :/

  4. Thanks :) For sure. I've already given up so many of those naughty things - but I think I am going to try replacing Breakfast and lunch with Protein shakes until my weigh in August 5...

Then I'll have the weekend before I start my pre surgical liquid diet before surgery August 22.

I'm so done with people telling me to have a "last meal" I think that is kind of defeatist at this point but I do plan to go to city island for crab legs with my husband August 7.

He deserves it since he is wholeheartedly supporting the cancellation of his 50th birthday vacation because my surgery got scheduled the week we were supposed to be away.

  5. @@thatmeanone and @@amyflores Try cutting out all sodas, high calorie drinks. Stick with a high protein/low carb (and only fruits and vegetables for carbs) diet. Drink alot of Water or non caloric drinks (no soda). You might want to try replacing a meal with a Protein shake. It's really important not to have a gain (you don't need a large loss) - some insurances will deny you if there was a gain. Good luck!!

  6. Now...as far as family goes...same thing. They'll know something is up when the weight starts to literally melt off. You can do the same as with co-workers and tell or not based on individual circumstances, or you can have a mother like I do who told everyone..and I mean everyone, about my being banded. Hell, even her neighbors know me as the 'banded one' when they see me and my sister. Even my financial planner knows because my mother has no filter. Really.

This is exactly why I am not telling my mother....

  7. I was denied as "not medically necessary". Basically, in a nut shell, they believe my last procedure failed because I didn't follow the program, which is not true.

I would ask your surgeon to request a peer to peer review. They seem to have good results from what I have heard.

  8. I go back September 6 and I am getting sleeved August 22. Absolutely not ideal - I teach pre k in NYC and it's really hands on. However because of insurance I can't get it done before that and I am not willing to wait until next summer. None of our breaks mid year are long enough. The first week we have 2 pd days then two half days then a three day weekend - so I am just hoping for the best.
