Yes I'm on once daily omeprazole and it does help a bit. My Calcium carbonate Vitamin also helps. I just hope this isn't forever because I hate waking up with fire in my chest at 3am every night.

Lol. Just goes to show how different we all are. My Calcium makes me nauseous as f*ck. Actually been trying all sorts of different things and haven't found one yet I can tolerate.

It really does get better. Let us know how you are doing as the days go by.

  2. Keep your chin up and just keep trying.

I know that my first week out I didn't come anywhere near my Protein goals. I mainly focused on fluids because my understanding was that dehydration was the big issue at they point.

Try drinking liquids at different temperatures to see which temp works best for you.

Did your doc prescribe something for the reflux/acid? If not call your surgeon and talk to them about it.

I promise you it gets better. My first two weeks sucked - but I'm two and a half months out now and it's all a distant memory.

Better things are right around the corner.

  3. We are foodies, so one of the things that excites me is all the new food recipes and methods to experiment with. Just because we have had surgery doesn't mean we can't enjoy being in the kitchen and being creative, right?

Love love love this! Absolutely 100% great attitude.

I might actually be enjoying food more... spending less money on quantity leaves more for quality.

  4. I made a cheesy enchilada bake my family loved.

Cook and shred chicken thighs and place in a baking dish.

Mix together a can of Tomato sauce, low sodium taco seasoning, a chopped green pepper, and a chopped onion and pour over the shredded chicken.

Top with grated cheese of your liking, I use a cheddar and Monterrey jack mix and bake at 350 till melted and bubbly.

    It's delicious and easy.

  5. I think you will be fine. I had surgery two weeks before school started this year - I teach pre k - and I was super nervous about it because I was still having incision pain and I move a lot. But honestly it was the best thing for me because I got really moving and had something else to occupy my mind. Incision pain 100% improved by my second or third day at work.

  6. Hello! Warning this will be a little long.

My husband and I love the fall holidays and I am looking for advice on new traditions.

There are lots of creative people on here, so I thought I would get your opinions.

We have lots of Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas movies. We read a book together in October. Halloween Tree this year. We do a lot of other Halloween/fall stuff like corn mazes, crafts and pumpkins.

Thanksgiving- we normally do snack foods, make popcorn in the fireplace, play games/puzzles all day and start our Christmas movies. Next day we go get our tree.

We have done a potluck dinner a couple of times. We round up other people who don't have somewhere to go. Though this year I haven't found any others who don't have a place to go, which is a good thing really.

Christmas - this is probably the most difficult one. We do Chinese food take out on Christmas Eve. We do taco cups for Christmas dinner. Odd but it is our thing.

My husband feels like we can't or shouldn't do these things because of my surgery and food reintegration difficulties. I'm six months out now and my diet is mainly Protein drinks, cheese and Protein bars. My doctor isn't worried about it. It just takes longer for some people.

Also I think he often feels bad eating food that I can't or won't. Which I can understand. He also thinks buying snack foods just for him is a waste.

    What we can't do

We don't have our family near by and don't do holiday travel. We have a dog that can't be left alone for long periods or boarded.

I don't really have anything to add - everyone else pretty much covered it...

But seriously - I want to move in with you. I love love love the fall holidays - but my family is only fun when I force them to be lol

  7. I read somewhere that being sleeved cures 64% of stress incontinence. For me that was a huge selling point. (Which is why that statistic stuck in my head)

I was probably going to the bathroom 30 times a day prior to surgery. Then I'd be up half the night going back and forth. It was so bad I actually wouldn't participate in activities unless there was immediate bathroom access.

The relief was almost immediate - I am heading to the bathroom much less frequently these days even though I am only 6 weeks out. And I only get up once during the night - huge improvement.

If I never lost a pound this alone would make the surgery worth it

  8. Just pick yourself up and start where you should be. I'm six weeks out too and it's tough - especially since some people are acting like I should be over this already. But you just have to keep moving along and keeping in mind what you want.

We made an awfully drastic move to throw it away for some temporary gratification - and while I don't expect anyone to be perfect all the time - I do expect that we keep trying our hardest.

  9. ThreadUp is great - they send you giant bags to fill then you return them and they sort through each item and tell you how much they will pay you for it. You can get a check or credit from them to use towards you buying your next size.

I got about a $1 an item from ThredUp. Most were brand new with tags and they sold every item for a decent amount. I'll never do it again - I'd rather donate.

I agree. I love buying from them but I wouldn't bother selling to them.

  10. @@thatmeanone Another one of my tidbits of wisdom that served me well in my weight loss phase is this. People are in a rush to lose weight quickly post-sleeve, because they have spent a lifetime dieting. But unlike a "diet", you will never be DONE with your sleeve. There is no need to sprint to the finish so you can return to your "normal" life. I promise you, no matter how frustrated you are with your "slow" loss in the moment, you will NOT be looking back two years from now thinking "if only I'd reached goal one month sooner". You will be enjoying your new active and healthy life, maintaining your goal weight and never looking back at all!

this is such a key shift from the old way of thinking! and you put this so very well.

success is moving towards a healthier relationship with appropriate servings of real food - not getting the fewest calories possible or dropping weight the fastest you can - although for all of us it is about loosing body fat. it is about seeing what your body can do movement wise (which is going to be different depending on other health issues) - and recapturing our real lives. the people who are truly successful navigate to this new normal.

You ladies are so right - really on point with your outlook. I have to say that I already am feeling so remarkably better it's unbelievable. Would never have thought that such a small loss could make such a huge difference.

Prior to surgery I was having almost constant ankle, knee and hip pain and now I'm away for the weekend with my husband 6 weeks post op walking miles up and down the beach. Went kayaking this morning and still went and walked the boardwalk this afternoon.

This was really the whole point for me. An active life without pain.
