    Help'

Hi. I was sleeved August 22. I really never had any pain drinking - just took tiny sips and was fine. It could be that your throat is sore from the tube but if you are concerned ask your doctor. First BM was like 4 days out My nausea went away as soon as I stopped taking the pain medication. In my experience zofran helped me not throw up when taken for another condition but I still felt mild nausea when I was on it. Good luck to you and congratulations! 1st post=op visit complete!

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Keep the faith. My first couple of days sucked - I was nauseous and sore - but I wasn't miserable - keep your eye on the prize and move, even if you are moving slowly. I stayed in the hospital 3 nights because of nausea and vomiting - once I went home I ditched the pain meds and the nausea went away. I'd rather deal with sore than nauseous so it's a trade off that works for me. I'm 10 days out now and doing ok. Still some pain in the muscle under one incision but I feel like it's days are numbered. Great things are ahead for us!

    Positivity Thread

I was sleeved 8/22 and while still in the hospital I went on thredUp and bought 4 pairs of size 8 jeans. I only paid $17 and I'm currently a size 16 - but I will fit into those jeans! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  4. While I agree with the other posters to not be the one to broach WLS with a kiddo, if your son snores loudly and falls asleep during the day then he very likely has sleep apnea and it can kill him. If you've heard him stop breathing while sleeping, then he almost certainly has it. I think it would be appropriate to prod him to get into a sleep study. Perhaps dealing with health issues will help him realize that he needs to take action one way or another. Absolutely no doubt in my mind he has sleep apnea - and having had a close friend die of it trust me when I tell you I have asked him repeatedly to have a sleep study. I'm at a stand still talking to him. It's remarkably frustrating. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  5. There really isn't a lot you can do. I started looking into this because I was concerned about my oldest boy. He is 27 and has to be about 350. I asked him to go with me to the seminar and to consider doing it with me but he has a lot of anxiety about the idea of surgery and wants to give losing another shot the old fashioned way. I'm devastated because I know what he sounds like when he sleeps and he seriously falls asleep constantly during the day. So so worried about his health. I am really hoping that after watching me yo yo all these years and then seeing the positive change in my life post surgery he will give it more consideration. BTW my surgery is tomorrow.... A New guy here

Hi. I'm an August 22 too! Don't stress - you are going to be fine. I always get a little nervous during the waiting/prep for surgery - for me that's the worst part - so I just tell the anesthesiologist and they make all the worries go away lol Im pretty sure that once we are back on solid food there is pretty much always something for us to eat as long as we have our Protein. I did south beach for like three years and my feeling is that it is probably similar except with much smaller potions. So when you plan your meals - or when you are out - just focus on protein first and enjoy the conversation and time out with people! We are going to be fine.... Good luck! Pre-Op Diet Hunger Distractions

I have to tell you - I was concerned just like you and it really is just not that bad. I started on the 2nd for surgery on the 22 and I am almost never really physically hungry. I am still making all my daughters meals and sitting with the family to eat and it's not bugging me too much.... When she is at camp and I'm home alone I do have a little battle with head hunger and I've been doing little things to help with that - read a book, call a friend, walk around the block, take a nap, take a shower - and when I'm really desperate I clean lol. But for the most part what has helped me the most has been acknowledging that it's just head hunger and deciding to not give in to it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Favorite Protein Shakes

My program was super specific about which shakes we are allowed to use during our 2 week pre op diet - which was sad because I really like the Atkins shakes but they didn't make the cut I like the premier Protein and I am sticking with them - they are palatable enough and on sale at costco this month. Bonus! I actually mix them with cold decaf coffee - which makes them just about perfect for me Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    3 months not 6

Me too! So frustrating because I had it timed perfectly to happen at the beginning of summer break - then my insurance changed their requirements and now I'm scrambling to get it done before school starts in September. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Good morning, Squad:

I'm working through the guilt of cancelling a long awaited family vacation and losing a ton of money we can't afford to lose because my surgery was scheduled for August 22, right in the middle of the planned vacation and two days from my husbands 50th birthday. (I don't want to put it off because it's already super close to when I have to return to work). I am really improving in my preparation and mindset. Getting used to getting fluids in, watching my Protein intake and learning new ways to cope with life beyond turning to food. I had already done away with straws, soda, gum and caffeine. My win is also my challenge incidentally. Not only did I happen to pick a great man who is supporting me 100% despite losing his vacation, birthday and literally thousands of dollars BUT I am seeing it through despite my tendency to bury my needs under the needs of my family. I am finally taking care of what I need to be happy. Christina, so sorry about your daddy... There are no words. I'll keep you in my thoughts. Cervidae, ironically it was physical therapy after shattering my leg that led me to lose 111 pounds the last time I did it - I am certain you will get right back on track as soon as you are cleared to exercise. Which will also help with the anxiety and mood swings I'm sure Kristen, I'm with you...waiting sucks. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Advice from ex smokers?

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Completely unrelated but incidentally this technique is also very effective at getting rid of hiccups.... I quit 8 years ago using chantix but I want a cigarette every single time I see someone smoking. I just have to remember that it would only take one for me to become a smoker again.

    Over & done!

Am I missing something. I know I'm a teacher and I tend to lose track of days during the summer but is not today Thursday, July 28? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  18. I'm a teacher and because of an insurance glitch couldn't have surgery scheduled until August 22. I go back September 6 so I'll only be out two weeks. Sucks cause I'm pretty much just hanging around right now... My first week back should be pretty light. 2 pd days, 2 half days then a three day weekend so I'll have 3 weeks before I'm in the thick of it... Hopefully it's enough :/ Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Weight?

Thank you - he was amazing about cancelling our trip - said my health was the best present... But I've been struggling with feeling bad - keep trying to remind myself that there will be other, presumably better, trips post surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Weight?

Thanks For sure. I've already given up so many of those naughty things - but I think I am going to try replacing Breakfast and lunch with Protein shakes until my weigh in August 5... Then I'll have the weekend before I start my pre surgical liquid diet before surgery August 22. I'm so done with people telling me to have a "last meal" I think that is kind of defeatist at this point but I do plan to go to city island for crab legs with my husband August 7. He deserves it since he is wholeheartedly supporting the cancellation of his 50th birthday vacation because my surgery got scheduled the week we were supposed to be away. tomorrow

You will be fine . Maybe not tomorrow, or next week, but eventually you will realize that this is truly the best thing you could do for yourself. I honestly believe that - and it is that thought that I rely on when I am scared about the changes we are facing Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
