    Apple Watch or Fitbit

I have never had a Fitbit but I do have an Apple Watch that I've worn everyday since last Christmas. I find the Apple Watch to be very helpful with keeping me on track with timing food and drink (you know the whole 30 min before and after eating drink restriction). I also find it motivational to see my activity tracker - which I have right on the face. That being said it's a really expensive item to use as a timer/activity tracker. Much as I like it - I'd have never spent this kind of money with the variety of less expensive options out there. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

How Did You Get Through the Pre-Op Diet?

Hi. I had a 21 day pre op diet. Protein shakes only - no food. I was supposed to go to 1200 calories but I never made it. Always ended up at 800. (Lost 19 pounds) I actually spent a remarkable amount of time around food during those three weeks - including cooking for a block party, making an anniversary dinner for my husband and having my grown sons home for a few days (boy can they eat). On top of that I was cooking for my daughter everyday. Oddly it didn't bother me that much - and when it did I would just remind myself that it was all in my head and this was going to be my new normal. So much of my life revolves around food and celebrations so I figured the sooner I get used to it the better off I'll be. I even went to a dinner party four days post op and just brought my broth with me. I think the pre op diet is a great time to reflect on what you want out of surgery. I wanted health and comfort - but not at the expense of the time I spend with my family. So for me it was important to work through my feelings and accept that I was going to be eating differently than them while we were together. It's not always easy but it's worth it. BTW. I heard a tip somewhere about dvr-ing your shows so you can skip the commercials. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Day 5 post op - struggling

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Yes I'm on once daily omeprazole and it does help a bit. My Calcium carbonate Vitamin also helps. I just hope this isn't forever because I hate waking up with fire in my chest at 3am every night. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Lol. Just goes to show how different we all are. My calcium makes me nauseous as f*ck. Actually been trying all sorts of different things and haven't found one yet I can tolerate. It really does get better. Let us know how you are doing as the days go by. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Day 5 post op - struggling

Keep your chin up and just keep trying. I know that my first week out I didn't come anywhere near my Protein goals. I mainly focused on fluids because my understanding was that dehydration was the big issue at they point. Try drinking liquids at different temperatures to see which temp works best for you. Did your doc prescribe something for the reflux/acid? If not call your surgeon and talk to them about it. I promise you it gets better. My first two weeks sucked - but I'm two and a half months out now and it's all a distant memory. Better things are right around the corner. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Chime in!

I made a cheesy enchilada bake my family loved. Cook and shred chicken thighs and place in a baking dish. Mix together a can of tomato sauce, low sodium taco seasoning, a chopped green pepper, and a chopped onion and pour over the shredded chicken. Top with grated cheese of your liking, I use a cheddar and Monterrey jack mix and bake at 350 till melted and bubbly. It's delicious and easy. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    surgery question

I think you will be fine. I had surgery two weeks before school started this year - I teach pre k - and I was super nervous about it because I was still having incision pain and I move a lot. But honestly it was the best thing for me because I got really moving and had something else to occupy my mind. Incision pain 100% improved by my second or third day at work. Lovenox/Heparin Bruises?

I had them every 8 hours while I was in the hospital, and had bruises like yours for every single shot. It's two months later and you can still see like a shadow where the bruises were. Can't wait for them to be 100% gone Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Peeing less after surgery

I read somewhere that being sleeved cures 64% of stress incontinence. For me that was a huge selling point. (Which is why that statistic stuck in my head) I was probably going to the bathroom 30 times a day prior to surgery. Then I'd be up half the night going back and forth. It was so bad I actually wouldn't participate in activities unless there was immediate bathroom access. The relief was almost immediate - I am heading to the bathroom much less frequently these days even though I am only 6 weeks out. And I only get up once during the night - huge improvement. If I never lost a pound this alone would make the surgery worth it Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
