  1. Had a bit of a scare this morning. Woke up and immediately could tell my sugars were low. Checked it - 41. I have never seen it do that before. 3 glucose tablets later and I was back up to 80. I was completely freaked out over it. My doctor is out of town for at least another week so hopefully I can find someone in the office tomorrow.

If you call the office today, the answering service should get you connected with whomever is covering for your doctor.

It is called reactive hypoglycemia and I get it probably once a week or so. It is scary because if it goes low enough you become very confused and your hands shake so bad that you cannot get the container of glucose open fast enough. It usually occurs if you have introduced too many carbs/sugars into your diet. My Bariatrician taught me if I am going to have cereal like cream of wheat for breakfast about an hour later I need to have a protein rich snack and it will break the cycle for me. I have tried following with something sweeter and that causes it to rebound all day long making for a very scary day. Are you having more carbs than normal? For me my sugar has gone as low as 30 before I caught it and I was home alone, confused and could not find any glucose. I ran into the kitchen and had a tablespoon of Jif peanut butter which has a lot of sugar and a peach. It helped but an hour later I made sure I had a protein snack. It can also happen if you don't eat frequently enough which is why I seem to get it now. I have switched to 5 small meals a day instead of 3.
