What does your pre op diet look like?
-
If you have an annual maximum, that is likely what you will pay if insurance doesn't cover at 100%. If they cover at 100%, then you will have to meet your deductible first.
-
You have a lot of swelling right now. As that begins to decrease, it becomes easier to drink and eat. And, yes, you will get the desire to eat back. It is just different than before.

Two weeks post op...how much water weight is there?
suzzzzz replied to orangesali's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your body doesn't know the difference between pre surgery loss and post surgery loss. What it does know is that it weighs 55 lbs less, a knife cut out 80% of its stomach and then stapled it all together. This is a time for healing and letting your body adjust to so much change. If you keep following your plan, the weight will come off. This us why your doctor isn't concerned and you should not be either. This is a journey so it helps to find ways to enjoy it. I am almost 6 mths out and eat about 800-900 calories a day, but my focus is on protein, liquids, feeling better, and shopping for smaller clothes in my closet! -
Who is choosing to keep surgery a secret?
suzzzzz replied to Kila Rass's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
People expecting me to fail is why I don't want to say a word. Because even I expect myself to fail. I can't have anyone squashing the sliver of hope I have. Please don't expect to fail because you will. Expect to lose weight, feel better, and get healthy and you will. It takes work on our part, but it is the best thing I've done for me. You can be successful! -
I've learned that when we hold onto something and aren't willing to let it go, in some way, shape, or form, we are getting something from it. Doesn't mean that is good or bad, it just is. You obviously want to lose the weight or you would not have had surgery. One step at a time is all you need.

We have a partnership with our sleeves. If we do our part by meeting Protein and liquid goals, the sleeve will do its part to help us lose weight. Exercise will help us build strong muscles which will replace the fat. Self motivation is the best motivation. It is probably a good time to dig a little deeper and work on why you aren't doing your part the best you can.

Calcium Supplements and Eating Dairy
suzzzzz replied to Treadmillwalker's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
My surgeon's suggestion list for supplements includes calcium, which I have been taking. When meetig with my pcp, she didn't think I needed it as I had a bone density test last year and had a great result. She said we will do it again in a few years. I will finish what I already bought. -
Meat is a dense protein so it will make you feel fuller. I have found that I can eat more fish, then turkey. Less of chicken and beef. I work on going very slow and the reward is that I feel full and satisfied much longer than with veggies or other foods. We all have to find what works for us.

anyone not recognize you after weight loss?
suzzzzz replied to newmein2017's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not yet, but I look forward to the day. Still have a ways to go. -
The pain on your side is probably from the muscle near where they took your stomach out. If you get dizzy standing up quickly, stand up slowly. Also, if you are on BP meds, check it at home regularly as you may need to reduce the dose or eliminate it altogether. My surgeon warned me of finding a hard area and said it was part of healing and will go away. All the above is coming from me, a non medical professional, so once you meet with your doctor, you will gain better insight!

A bit of a shock and a hard lesson
suzzzzz replied to LittleBill's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It only took me one time of getting myself into a position of not eating for a long while before I decided to keep a protein bar in my purse at all times. Planning ahead has become so important with the sleeve. Not hard to do, just a new habit to develop. -
It is very exciting to get to soft food stage. However, you will still need to use protein supplements to meet your goals. Even on solid food at 5.5 mths out, I still have a shake a day and sometimes a protein bar.

I eat out a lot and have found it pretty easy to have good meals. Pick your favorite place and look at the menu ahead of time. chicken is always on the menu as well as Soups. Meatballs, fajitas, insides of tacos, enchiladas, burritos, pizza toppings, burger patty, shrimp, grilled fish, crab, etc. Just leave off bread, rice, Pasta, and make sure veggies are well cooked.

Excessive salivation / vomiting after eating
suzzzzz replied to Marc A. Fellman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5.5 mths out and haven't tried bread yet. With protein first, I just don't have room. As you add a new food, go very slowly and try one new food at a time. I have not had any issues with eating. -
My instructions were to eat slowly over a 30 minute time window. It is hard to stretch it out, but when I do, I can eat more which is a good thing. May be worth eating slower.

Laying Flat after surgery
suzzzzz replied to toofatnopants's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told laying flat can cause nausea. I slept at an incline for several days. Didn't not have any gas pain or nausea. -
recovery after surgery
suzzzzz replied to shanicexo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I live alone and didn't need any help after surgery. I had friends on standby in case I had a complication. Overall, my recovery was pretty easy. Went off pain meds after day 2, no gas pain, walked, slep, and focused on getting water in. -
I did all the bad things!

The Stall From Hell
suzzzzz replied to mylastchance21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your body doesn't know pre op weightloss from post op weightloss. All it knows is there are 50 gone. That is a lot in a short amount of time and your body needs to adjust. Just keep following your plan and focus on the great new life you are creating! -
Transfer them to an air tight container before you put them in fridge. No body wants smells in fridge.

Only 35lbs lost in 3months - feeling discouraged
suzzzzz replied to avatarkorraa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Our bodies don't know pre op loss from post op loss. It is total loss and needs time to adjust. You are doing great. It may sound strange, but my experience has been a combination of losing and stalls. I've only had 1 big drop in a weeks time that was recently at 5.5 mths. If you do your part with protein and water your body will respond when it wants to.
