Totally understand what you mean with the links. I understand monetizing the site, but I do wish that the store links were somehow "singled out" from actual links we put into the posts. I don't like that it looks as though I'm the one linking to the store.
Now if you want to pay me a percentage of anything bought through links in my posts...that's another story. Then I'll talk about Protein powder, Quest, powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury, meals, Protein Bars, Protein chips, Soups....and anything you want me to

The bottom line on transmission for c.diff is that poop particles (and they can be microscopic) have to be transferred from one person to another to catch it. It's very hard to keep the particles contained when the patient has explosive and incontinent watery stool. But that's the transmission route. Coughing, sneezing, other physical contact, blood contact - none of these things will transfer c.diff unless there's poop particles in it. I worked with a nurse who didn't bleach her shoes, and her dogs ended up with c.diff. Now THERE was a mess!!!
Something a lot of people aren't aware of - if you leave your toilet seat open when you flush, microscopic particles of whatever you're flushing get sprayed up to 6 feet. So it's scary easy to get those microscopic particles on your clothes, towels, sinks, toothbrushes, etc.
But unless you've had incontinence that soiled your furniture, the main place people can come into contact with it is in the bathroom. Transmission for casual contact like for the movers would require that you had gotten those particles on the boxes and furniture. AND that they touched those things with their bare hands AND that they ate something that they touched with their hands without washing their hands. And note that c.diff doesn't infect most healthy people. Usually people who get c.diff infections have their immunity compromised in some way - age, illness, medications, etc.
If you do have soft furniture (couches, mattress, etc.) that has been soiled, you'll need to find out if there's any cleaning agent you can use that will be effective without ruining the furniture. If possible, I'd consider just chucking it, frankly.
This link has some information about cleaning:
    https://cdifffoundation.org/c-diff-infection-%E2%99%A5-home-care/
As for the antibiotics, yes, you are technically more susceptible to a return of c.diff after taking them, but you'll never clear the infection on your own without them. All you can really do is do as much as you can to get your Protein in (which will be easier after they stop the diarrhea) and all the little things to try and stay as healthy as you can otherwise. It may very well take several rounds with the meds to stop this. And it may even take a fecal transplant.
I can't comment on the handling of your samples without getting unladylike. I understand that things are handled differently in the UK, but here in the US, I'd be speaking to an attorney and filing a complaint with JCAHO, CMS, and the state hospital board (basically all of the licensing and certification organizations). If they're that casual with stool samples, then they're not doing due diligence in preventing infections all the way around. I wouldn't be surprised to find a number of hospital-acquired infections in every one of your friends who are also having problems.

    Wow.
I worked long-term acute ICU, so I had my share of c.diff patients. You have a tough row to hoe, definitely. But at least you now know that your diarrhea can be resolved. Most patients can get c.diff cleared with a round or two of the strong antibiotics. If yours does not clear, as gross as it sounds, I strongly recommend looking into a fecal transplant. The remission rate for c.diff with transplant is over 90%. They don't do it right off the bat because most will respond to the antibiotics, and the transplants are a lot more difficult and people are resistant to them.
I would want to find out if there is a cluster of c.diff in your bariatric unit. If so, then there have been some lapses in the cleaning and isolation protocols at your facility, and this may be a contributing factor to why so many of your friends in the same center have had problems. If c.diff is colonized in that facility, other bugs may be as well.
C.diff is certainly highly contagious, but if your family isn't experiencing that horrible watery diarrhea then they probably have not contracted it. The labs at my facilities wouldn't even run the test on samples we sent if the stool was formed, because if it is, it's not c.diff (at least that's their position). It's really only contagious through handling the stool, so if your family hasn't been cleaning up after you, they likely haven't been exposed.
I certainly wish you the best of luck in dealing with this!!

    @@GinaCampbell,
Thanks for your post. I think it is important for everyone who is considering weight loss surgery to see all sides of the issue so they can make the best decision for themselves.
I am sorry you feel that your surgery was a mistake. I can definitely sympathize with your reasons, such as missing coffee, or wanting to eat without worrying about its effects. And worrying about fainting when leaving the house sounds awfully scary.
You provide a great cautionary tale. The reasons you list for regretting the surgery are not uncommon effects of the surgery, and I’m sure many of them were not a surprise to you. Especially since you did your pre-op research, I am sure you knew you wouldn’t be able to eat a full salad 9 weeks post-op, or eat as much meat (or really anything) as you wanted, or drink Water with meals.
I think it is really hard sometimes to translate what we read and know in our minds to being able to understand how hard it will be in real life. Thanks for pointing it out.
I am glad you are choosing to look forward and move ahead as best you can. I do hope you eventually come to change your mind and feel that surgery was a good move for you, but if not, I still look forward to seeing you make the most of it. Thanks for sharing your story and thoughts.

People have tried to help you and say the right things. I truly find you fascinating. Maybe I am honestly interested to know what you need to hear to make you feel as though you have met your objective. People don't have to agree with you, and they don't have to agree with me. I just don't get why you think you shouldn't respect any other point of view the way that you are insisting that others should respect yours. I admitted the fact that I made you feel disrespected, and yet you continue to criticize me and anyone who won't agree with you. I like a good discussion, because that is how I learn about people and experiences. I don't always say the exact right things in the exact right way, but I never intend to insult anyone the way that I have you. I just never encountered anyone quite like you, and I really am interested to know what you came here to accomplish. This will be my last comment out of respect for you and your point of view. I wish you well, and that is the honest truth. Sorry we couldn't seem to understand each other...

@@GinaCampbell, I apologized to you, as have several other people, and yet you continue the nastiness. You are giving as good as you get. What is it that you want to hear that you might find helpful? People have gone so far as to validate you, and you still find a way to be snarky. You are not helping anyone here. So as you gather your thoughts about how to further lash out at me, remember that you are the one keeping all of this ugly. We have tried to be nice, so why can't you?

I am curious as to how you know how you will feel 6 years from now? You feel how you want to feel, and I am sorry that you feel that you must live your life without hope. You create the future that you want to create, but life is not absolute. No one "alwayses" or "nevers". I don't intend to discount your feelings or take anything away from your experience, but I was once a pessimistic person myself. I chose at some point to change my outlook to preserve my sanity. No one knows what the future holds, and your situation has just as much of a chance to improve as it does to not improve. I think you are doing yourself an extreme injustice by making up your mind that the rest of your life is going to be miserable because you don't want to admit that things can get better just as easily as they can get worse. You are sure to manifest what you believe to be your reality. This is just another opinion and is in no way meant to disrespect your feelings, but I am sad for you that you are making up your mind to be miserable permanently. I sincerely hope things get better for you, but if you don't want or believe it to be possible, I can guarantee it won't. I wish you the best, even if you don't wish that for yourself.

If it weren't for my belly, I would have lost two pants sizes. My jeans are all super baggy everywhere except at the waist. It's driving me insane, but I know my belly will probably be the last to go...I know I will get there, but in the meantime I look like I have droopy-drawers...(y'all from the South should "get" that, lol) Truthfully, I can actually fit into smaller jeans, but I hate the muffin top!!! I will just wait it out...

I would just add that not everyone has dumping and for MOST, dumping goes away after the first few years.
I have never dumped......so many people choose gastric bypass thinking the dumping will help them behave only to be disappointed which I find funny.
I do not want to dump ever......
In the beginning I thought the best thing to do was to be open and honest about my surgery. I learned over time, if I had to do it over again I wouldn't. Not because I am not proud but because people do label you and watch you and judge you.
Guess what, I have had sweets every once in a while. Do I really want every person judging me with what I eat? Um no........I am a big girl and will take responsibility for my actions. If I eat the wrong thing and gain weight then I know my clothes are not going to fit and that will piss me off and remotitvate me to stay the course.
    Just my two cents.....

How funny! I have never seen him eat on the air, either. I read an article about him in a magazine a couple of years ago, where he confessed that he pooped his pants at the White House!! Poor guy, what a trooper. I suspect it must have been somewhat soon after his surgery, or he experienced dumping. I really admire him for the success he has had after his surgery, and I love that he was so real about his experience in that article.

I haven't had the opportunity to read the other replies here.....running out of casual time this afternoon, lol.
I can simply answer your question with my own experiences with my VSG.
It was a walk in the park. Easy. Simple. Straightforward on the recovery. Almost everyone on my bariatric center's private FB page has posted the same results.
I didn't see the negative reports until joining here and also on youtube.
I think that there are an overwhelming majority of folks who have their wls and rock it. They move on in life and don't look back. You'll not hear much from this crowd.
Same thing I see at work. There are the quiet performers who nail down their responsibilities and do their job at high levels.......then there are the noisy and outspoken under achievers who voice complaint after complaint.
Just my opinion, experience and observation. Take it for what it's worth.
I'll say that without a doubt having my VSG was one of the best decisions of my life.

@ It's so important to research and I commend you for that. I'm pre-op and have been preparing for about 6 months. I encourage therapy to deal with any eating"issues" so you have all the tools available post-op. I've read many stories on here and other places and would say the majority of people don't have a miserable recovery. It's not easy but if you follow your surgeon's instructions you have a better chance of not having complications. Ask your surgeon about post-op complication rates. Go to some support groups and talk to those who have been through it. With a BMI close to 40 - your chance of having significant health problems is much greater than the risk of surgery complications. Good luck on your journey!
