  1. I have my next appointment with my surgeon on May 31st. I'm going to ask about revision to a bypass. Acid reflux is seemingly becoming more of a problem, which after carousing around the forums I discovered it's not uncommon for GERD symptoms to be kept at bay for awhile only to hit heavy after a year or two. My weight loss was ok at first going down about 70 lbs, but then I gained roughly 25 lbs back and I've been steady at that weight for...gosh...a year? And yet I'm still a 39 BMI so I refuse to believe that's where my body "wants to be." My portion sizes are also nowhere near what I'd expect if the forums are anything to ride home about. I can eat and am hungry for essentially normal, full meals...certainly no "I only eat 1 cup of food at 5 years out" kind of diet.

Just worried that it'd end up being an open procedure because I have a lot of scar tissue from previous urological surgeries.

  2. Can I just say, and this is off the record and not meant to be "inspiration" for anyone, but I don't exactly adhere to the bariatric diet as much as I could (outside of really trying to get protein) and I'm still managing to be right on track with weight loss. Of course, I'd like to not rely on that continuing and actually do something better, but I'm just throwing that out there.

ummm, at 2.5 months PO, you should be taking advantage of the honeymoon period - right now isn't the best time to be a little lax - no offense intended - good on the protein, my advise is to follow ALL rules (water, portions, carbs etc) you'll be happy you did - congrats on being 51 lbs down - you must be doing something right LOL - kathy

I think it's all well and good to say you're on the right track now - when it's nearly impossible NOT to lose weight. I would be hesitant to encourage people to eat off plan until you've lost all of your weight and maintained it for a significant period of time. There's also the issue of good lab values, reduced hair loss, and improved skin to consider (can be diet related). Those aren't something you can measure right now. I hope your success continues - but like you said - I wouldn't rely on that!

I'm guessing that right now, I could eat nothing but funnel cakes and Chunky Monkey and still lose weight, but why would I?

  3. I've got my first kidney clinic since surgery tomorrow. I hope my doc is impressed with the weight loss thus far and maybe indulges in rationalizing that WLS was good for me.

  4. Got my six week post op appointment tomorrow! I'm happy with my progress thus far (41 pounds)!

  5. I've been tolerating every food I've tried...this is good. Unfortunately they haven't been the greatest foods and I'm severely unstructured right now.

      Those darn crackers! ;)

Nope, no crackers actually! Well, that's a lie, I JUST tried two saltines, but I'm a month post op tomorrow so it makes more sense now than at early 3 weeks.

  6. Two weeks post op appointment has me at a good point. Doc's happy with the incisions and my weight loss so far is more than expected. :)

      You are doing great!

  7. What stage is cheese allowed in? I'd think soft foods?

It depends on your surgeon's plan. For me, soft cheese are allowed on soft foods, but in stages. Example: I can have sliced or shredded cheese but not melted mozzarella.

  8. Had a pretty bad fever the past night and a half. Finally getting to feeling normal but the migraine just won't go away completely.

FUO this close to your WLS is never a good sign. Call your bariatric team, so at least they are aware of what's going on.

Caribear yeah, in fact I drank more than the days prior. Valentina I did, they were non-too-concerned about it as long as I was doing the things necessary to relieve it. All back to working condition now.

Great! Thanks for the update. Now, onward!!! :)

  9. To be honest, I could probably drink water much faster than I am. Plus getting up at 3pm doesn't help set pace for getting 100-136oz of water. xD

--but is it better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all? Hurts, either way.

I would argue not. Some people mean so much to you that when they betray you, it feels as if you would've been better off never having met them. Plus these are song lyrics to a song I love (You Ruin Me by The Veronicas).

I know. I just think love hurts sometimes--really hurts. Would I try again?
