    Weight Gain After Sleeve?

No offense against your aunt, but I bet she is just insecure. She probably is afraid of you succeeding, because she's afraid of the surgery, and she probably hates the idea of you looking better than her. Weight loss surgery is so much better than suppressants. Your aunt is basically taking medical speed. When/if she stops taking it, she will most likely regain her weight. She will have to work her ass off to not fall back into old habits. I have a co-worker like this. She resents me for some reason. When I told her I was having this surgery, she said so many things to discourage me. She would argue with me daily on why this surgery was a bad idea. She would tell me that I would fail because there's a reason I'm fat. She said, "You can lose weight on your own. There's no reason to get this surgery. You like to eat, so how do you know this surgery will work? I know of many people who failed with this surgery. I even know of people who have died." Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't it seem like she wants me to fail? I mean, she would raise her voice at me and talk bad about me on the phone to her family! Over a surgical procedure! I was shocked! And guess what? She's overweight; even more so than I ever was. I think she's about 350 pounds. She's been to a weight loss clinic 4 times in the last 2 years, and she hasn't succeeded at all. She can't stick with it for more than a week. I've realized that she's just very insecure. I've lost 60 pounds since August, and not once has she complimented me about my VERY OBVIOUS weight loss. So, you do what you think is best. Get the surgery and worry about yourself. When you prove your aunt wrong, watch closely and see if she compliments you. If she doesn't, then you know why. Also, this surgery is not a miracle. It is a tool. It helps you lose weight and makes it easier. It does not do it for you. It allows you to change bad habits into good ones. You will still have to go to the gym and eat correctly.
  2. You're actually more at risk of something going wrong by driving a car or getting your gallbladder removed, than by getting the sleeve. This surgery was so easy to me. My body felt normal by the 3rd day. Don't google anything else negative. You will scare yourself and that's never good.

    Weight Gain After Sleeve?

I'm willing to bet that your aunt is lying. It's almost impossible to regain back ALL the weight plus more unless you're literally trying to. Like, I could probably bet money that your aunt is lying to you. Is your aunt overweight? Dieting "the natural way" gives a high risk of gaining it all back, plus more. It's called yo-yo dieting. You are 89% more likely of keeping the weight off by getting the surgery.

    More information please

I've heard of the Lap Band having more complications and failure than it succeeding. I actually know of a few people who have had the band, and every single one of them have either gotten it removed, or gained back their weight. The sleeve is a lot more successful. Of course, any weight loss surgery can fail if you continue with bad eating habits. It's just less likely to regain bad eating habits with the sleeve or bypass.

    soup [emoji7]

That's exactly how I felt when I was able to eat tomato soup. It was like a 5 star steak, lmao. XD

    Not losing enough

I had mine on 8/4 and I've only lost 52 pounds. I lost the first 21 pounds in 2 weeks (I think it was water weight). Now I'm losing like a pound every 2 weeks. I'm hoping that it's a slight stall. Everyone is different. Don't let it discourage you.

    Should I be upset?

You have the right to feel anyway you want to. But maybe you shouldn't tell them it made you upset, since you did say it was ok. They asked you, so they won't know if it's ok or not unless you tell them the truth. Next time, maybe you should let them know that it made you uncomfortable. I know you weren't honest because you didn't want to seem rude. I also think they shouldn't have asked you for some, since they know you can't. But maybe they were just trying to be nice. People who aren't on the same journey as us, don't know what we know about eating. They assume that a little bit won't hurt. It's not their fault, unless you tell them over and over that you can't. Also, if they ever pressure you to eat incorrectly, then you have every right to get upset. I've been in that situation. It's very annoying. Also, like the above poster said, we can't expect people to change their ways for the sake of us. It's not fair to them. We just have to have the willpower to refrain.

    Surgery tomorrow!

Sorry, no. I'm in Alabama. Though, word of advice, you may feel gas pains in your shoulder, neck, arm, or back (I felt it in my left shoulder). If you do, and the Hydrocodone doesn't help, ask the nurse for Dilaudid to take the edge off. Walk as much as you can before you request it. When you get sleepy and want to rest, then request it. There is a chance you won't experience any gas pains, though. And if you do, it usually only lasts for 2-3 days.

    Surgery tomorrow!

Congrats! I'm sorry you're feeling lightheaded and sore. But trust me, it's SO worth it! I'd do this again if I had to. I only experienced two mild headaches when I did my liquid diet. It actually wasn't as bad as I expected. I guess I got lucky? Ha. It's normal to feel a bunch of emotions. I only felt excitement and anxious (the good kind) because I was so ready to get this done. Good luck!

    Insurance question

It's possible. Some surgeons want to get the surgery done ASAP. I was approved in 8 days. But then again, every surgeon is different.
  11. ...people try to urge you to eat as much as them, which makes you feel uncomfortable, lol. ...people look at you weirdly when you order only a side of mashed potatoes for dinner at a restaurant.
  12. Wow, that's impressive. Are you on anti-inflammatories? My stomach was too swollen to drink that much that soon. It took me at least 3-4 weeks to be able to partially gulp. I'm almost 5 months post-op, so now I'm able to gulp, but I have to belch soon after.
  13. I second Bill. I only suggested calling your doctor to put your mind at ease; since the mind plays a big part in recovery. Just try to wait it out a few days by resting and see if it gets better. My stomach felt weird while in the car, but it didn't last like yours is. Everyone is different, though.
  14. I haven't heard of this before. You need to call your doctor and tell them about this.
  15. Hello! I know I'm posting a lot of topics, but I am just so anxious about this procedure, and I want to make sure I am 100% prepared. I just have a few questions about what to expect and what to do. It's ok if you're unable to answer all of my questions. Any advice is very much appreciated. 1. How long should I expect to be off from work after surgery? I know that it is up to the doctor, but I just want an estimated idea. I work a very low physical job. So, there will be barely, if any, physical duties. 2. Will I have to avoid carbonated drinks for the rest of my life? I'm not a huge soda drinker, but I do drink it from time-to-time. I know that I'll have to avoid anything carbonated 6 months post-OP. But does that mean for the rest of my life, as well? It's ok if I have to. I'm just curious. 3. Are Protein drinks, like Muscle Milk, the type of Protein Drinks that I'll be able to drink, or will they have to be made? 4. Will I have to stop drinking alcohol completely? I rarely drink, but when I get around my childhood friends, they love to drink, and sometimes I'll drink a little. 5. Has anyone with PCOS had any improvement with their symptoms? If so, please explain. 6. What would you say is an emotional eater? I've noticed a few people get depressed after having the surgery because they aren't hungry enough to eat a lot of food like they used to be able to do. I don't necessarily know if I'm an emotional eater or not. I think I'm more of a 'boredom eater'. I'm mostly bored because I'm so overweight that I can't do the things I wish I could. My weight has caused me to become a hermit and very tired/lazy. But I hardly ever snack when I'm at home. I usually just eat big meals and then I'm done. When I do snack, I make it my meal. Strangely enough, when I'm depressed, I can't eat. My eating habits make people wonder why I am as big as I am, since I don't snack. I tell everyone it's my PCOS, which I'm sure is the truth. 7. Will I still be able to take Adderall after the surgery? Adderall helps my OCD. My OCD causes me to lose concentration on important things, so Adderall helps keep me focused. 8. Is there any long-term pain after the surgery? 9. Will I be able to have kids? I'm only 24 years old (25 in about 2 weeks) and I have no kids. I want kids in my future. 10. Will I really have to drink 6-8 cups of Water a day? I barely drink 3 cups a day because a lot of water makes me feel sick. 11. Is it true that laying down after eating should be avoided? So far, those are the only questions I can think of. I may have more later.
  16. I was diagnosed when I was 20, but I'm sure I've had it since I was 17. When I started high school at age 14, I weighed 115 pounds. As the years went on, I teetered in my weight between 120 and 145. But once I got into my Senior year at age 17, I was put on oral steroids for sinus issues, and I gained 50 pounds in 3 months. After that, I couldn't get my weight off. I noticed I started getting very fatigued and started having horrible migraines. I always assumed the migraines were from sinus trouble. But then at age 20, I start noticing that I had dark spots in my vision. It wasn't like floaters, but more like blind spots; kinda like when you look at the sun for too long, and you see those dark spots that kinda flicker. It's kinda hard to explain, lol. I also noticed that I could no longer ride roller coasters or spinning rides without getting horrible migraines. I was always able ride crazy rides before I put on weight. But now, they make me sick. So, I decided to go to an Optometrist to get my eyes checked. The doctor told me that my optic nerves were swollen, and she referred me to a Nuero-Opthamologist to be tested further. He ordered an MRI and a spinal tap, which ruled out a brain tumor and MS (thank goodness). But the spinal tap confirmed Pseudotumor cerebri. Pseudotumor cerebri is a false brain tumor. It is not malignant or cancerous. It's when excess cerebrospinal Fluid builds up within the skull. There is no cure, and it is more common in overweight women. My doctor said I had some of the most interesting eyes because, even though I have blind spots and very swollen optic nerves, my vision is 20/15. He said that most people, with swollen optic nerves like mine, are legally blind. Symptoms for Pseudotumor cerebri are: - Migraines - Vision problems (double vision, dimmed vision, seeing light flashes, blind spots, etc.) - Tinnitus - Nausea and vomiting brought on by migraines - Fatigue - Dizziness The danger of having Pseudotumor cerebri is permanent blindness. Ever since I had my surgery and have lost a large amount of weight, I have only had one headache (which was probably due to not eating enough). I haven't had anymore visual obscurations or episodes of blindness. I'm so excited about this. I think my condition is going into remission. Does anyone else have Pseudotumor cerebri?

    Alcoholism after surgery

I think for me I drink the alcohol because it was easier to do then actually having a meal. I still struggle to this day on certain meals but I have no issues having a drink to fulfill my needs. It's been 4 years since surgery and I have not had one soda because I would be miserable if I did it but I can pound down a 6 pack with no issues. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App What about Protein shakes? They're filling and are great for avoiding food when you don't feel like chewing.

If you don't crave it, then that's actually a good thing. The alcoholics I knew of, actually craved it. What makes you want to drink?

    Not doing so well

So basically you decided that ignoring your doctor's instructions and eating a week after major surgery is OK and you came here to find people who agree? Great. Your insurance paid for this surgery because you are morbidly obese. If you can't follow simple medical instructions to prevent serious post operative problems I m not going to waste my time on you. But, before I BLOCK you, unless you are well bent on killing yourself I suggest you get some psychiatric counseling ASAP. So I understand people telling me that what I have done is not right and I need to stop and do right and I apperciate that. But I didn't get on here to be talked to rudely and be judged. So in words of my mamaw if you ain't got nothing nice to say don't say anything at all. ☺. I have done nothing to offend. Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App Just block her. There is no need for rudeness. No one feels the need to be rude for no reason, unless they're angry or insecure. You did not provoke her in any way. I don't see anywhere where you disagreed with anyone or refused advice. You came here looking for advice and support. And girl, I am here for you! You made a mistake, a VERY dangerous one; and you owned up to it. For that, I admire you. I can't tell you how many times I've come across people who refuse to own up to their mistakes and continue to fail themselves. You were brave enough to come here and talk about this. It's great because it shows that you really do care about this, but that you're just struggling. We are humans, so we are going to make mistakes. I think you need someone to talk to, if not daily, maybe weekly, to make sure you're staying on track. If that's what you need, then you are more than welcome to message/text me. I'll admit, I've made a lot of mistakes in the past 4 months post-op. I've even started eating bread and Pasta again. I'm not gaining weight, but I'm also not losing weight as fast as I want to. I've been stalled at 195 for almost 2 weeks now. I've decided to reset my system by doing the pouch reset (it's like the diet we were put on post-op, but instead of 5 weeks, it lasts for 5 days).

    Not doing so well

Some people make a profile quickly to ask questions and get advice when they're feeling desperate. I've seen a ton of profiles with little to no information. Some people don't see the point in putting down info of themselves, and just come to these forums for discussion/support.

No need to be so hateful. She admitted that she has a problem. This person came to this forum for advice, not rude comments.

    Alcoholism after surgery

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. I think it's very likely that you have emotional issues that you need to see someone about. The reason is because, at first, you were overeating. Now you have found another way to comfort yourself. Do you actually crave the alcohol now? Or are you doing it to feel something?
  23. I had my gallbladder removed before my surgery. My gallbladder was only working at 12% (any dysfunction under 35% is abnormal). The gallbladder can fail from rapid weight gain and rapid weight loss. Rapid weight loss may cause an imbalance of bile and cholesterol in the body, as well, which can lead to the formation of gallstones. I had a feeling my gallbladder wasn't functioning correctly. The main indicators were, a Charlie Horse feeling in my sides and major indigestion.

    Not doing so well

Oh wow... I can understand having cravings, but how on Earth are you able to eat solid food this soon? o_o I could barely even drink liquid. I wasn't able to eat anything solid for 5 weeks post-op. It seems that you were not truly ready to make this change. At this rate, you have nearly done this for nothing. This isn't a miracle procedure; it's a tool designed to help you make a life change. We aren't fussing at you. We are genuinely concerned for your safety. What you're doing is out of habit and emotional comfort. There is almost no way possible anyone can be this hungry 1 week post-op. Keep us updated on what the ER says.
  25. I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea and Pseudotumor cerebri (which causes severe migraines and visual obscurations). Pseudotumor cerebri is usually in women who are overweight, and it can cause permanent blindness. Since I've lost 60 pounds, I haven't had a single migraine or visual obscuration. I don't feel as tired anymore, and I'm getting more restful sleep. When I was at my highest weight of 255, my ankles would swell a few times a week. Since I've lost weight, they have not gotten swollen once. My health is already beginning to improve significantly.
