    Struggling

There's no such thing as too much protein. Protein never turns into fat. And the protein that isn't used in the body, is excreted.
  3. I live in AL. I used BCBS Federal. They would have made me wait 4 months, but since I have a life-altering condition, they approved me. But I've heard of so many people being approved quickly. Strange.
  4. I'm 2 weeks post op and I have the same pain. If I lean to the right I'm fine but leaning to the left causes a slight jabbing pain. Also pushing myself up... like if you start to slouch while sitting and use your hands to push up ... That hurts the sharpest. I walk it out but doc says that it is likely the muscle. Sent from my VS985 4G using the BariatricPal App YES! That, too! When I slouch and raise back up, that's when it happens a lot. Whew! Glad I'm not alone!

    Getting over the guilt

I dealt with the guilt by deciding to have this surgery. I no longer feel bad about it because I know that I will be thinner very soon. Everyone is proud of me because I've already lost 23 pounds in just 3 weeks. I was thin all my life, until I started taking oral steroids when I was 17, because of severe sinus issues. I gained 50 pounds in under 3 months. It was awful and I felt so bad for letting it happen. But there is hope for the future!
  6. Yeah, reschedule maybe another 2-4 weeks after your original date, just to be sure. She's never heard of someone's process being so fast? MY process was VERY fast. I was approved by my insurance in 8 days, and my surgery was scheduled a month and a half after my consultation.

    3 months post op

I haven't been 196 since I was 18, too! And at age 17, I was only 145. Hard to believe I was 115 at age 14! Oral steroids are evil, lol! Congratulations! You look amazing!

    Struggling

Losing only 1 pound per month is extremely slow. Have you had your thyroid checked? How many carbs are you eating? You may need to log your food and make sure that you are not eating more than 1500 calories a day. It's rough sometimes, but it gets easier the longer you do it. Try to exercise at least 30 minutes a day, if it's nothing but walking. Cardio is amazing for weight loss. Keep us updated and feel free to add anything. We want to help and we want you to succeed! <3

    Getting sleeves 9/26th

A lot of the tips you need will come from your surgeon and the nurses. But, I will say this... You will probably have gas pains (you will feel them in your back, neck, and/or shoulder. If the Hydrocodone doesn't take the edge off while you're in the hospital, then request dilaudid. It will help. Good luck!
  10. You got sleeved 2 days ago. Feeling bad, after 2-3 days, is completely normal. I felt SO much better on the 3rd day. On the 2nd day, I came home and laid down for a long nap. When I woke up, I felt as if I'd been beaten up. It was awful. Make sure you drink enough liquid and take your B-12. It really helped me.
  11. Thank God, indeed! I'm so glad you have no problems! My poor aunt has swollen feet, legs, and ankles, and she has CHF. I'm so worried about her. I'm bringing her to a support group next month so she can get the sleeve.Keep her elevated about 30 degrees until swelling disappears. Otherwise the Fluid can build up further around her heart making breathing and her heart beating almost impossible. That over works the heart. It is a muscle and like any other muscle, when you work it, it grows (enlarged heart). That only compounds the problem. Thank you so much for your reply. Unfortunately, I don't live with her, plus, she's very stubborn and I'm worried that if I tell her to do that, she will get upset. Maybe next month, when I take her to the support group, I can ease her into that idea without upsetting her. She might not even get upset. I just assume the worst sometimes and I'd like to avoid that, haha. Actually, now that I think about it, I'll be seeing her on Labor Day. If I pull her to the side and we discuss my surgery, maybe she will tell me her worries and then I can give her that advice. Thanks again!
  12. Hello everyone. I know I post a lot, but I love all the feedback and support I get. I'm feeling a dull, yet tender, stretchy pain on the upper left side of my body. I started feeling this maybe 2 weeks post-op. I assumed that it could be my insides moving around in the void where a big part of my stomach once was. But I want to be sure. Also, how easy is it to stretch out the sleeve? I've been drinking a lot of liquid at one time, and I'm scared about stretching it. I probably haven't really been drinking a lot (maybe 2-4 oz at a time), but it seems like a lot to me since I'm supposed to be taking small sips.
  13. That's great to know! It's a lot easier to gulp now, and that actually kinda scares me. But I guess it's easier now because the swelling has gone down. Thanks for your reply.
  14. Yeah, true. I guess I was a bit worried because I didn't start getting the pain until after 2 weeks post-op. I figured that if I were to be feeling pain, it would be sooner. But I think it's a combination of the muscles healing and there being an empty spot where the big portion of my stomach was. I hope you are doing well!

    Really Regretting it.

LOL, I'm grinning while reading this because you sound so much like me. I felt like I was going to die when I first woke up, too. There was a bubble trapped inside my esophagus and I woke up and said, "Uhhhh I can't breathe..." in the most whiny tone. Bleh, I never whine, but I was scared and vulnerable. Also, when I first got to have tomato soup, it was like eating a high quality steak, lmao!

    Post op appointments

There really isn't much that you need to do. I saw my surgeon a week after my surgery so he could remove the stitches. Now I won't have to see him for another 4 months.

    GASSY

You may want to call your doctor and tell them about this. It's been over 2 weeks since your surgery, so the gas should be out of your system. Though, everyone is different. You may just need Gas-X, but ask your doctor first. Are you running a fever or do you have chills? Are the gas pains severe? If so, it could be a leak. But, there's a very good chance that it isn't.
  18. Your bowels are loose because you're on a liquid diet. Water in - water out! I had this for almost a week after my VSG.

    Surgery 9/12

Hi Yaya! Congrats on your surgery date! I managed the diet very well, actually. I only had to do it for one week, but it was still pretty easy. Make sure you drink about 3 protein shakes a day with no more than 15g of carbs and no more than 5g of fat, unless your doctor says otherwise. You can also have yogurt and soups. I recommend tomato soup and broth. Also, strained and watered down cream of chicken soup (make sure to not swallow any chicken bits). Are they requiring you to do clear liquids at any time?

    GASSY

    When was your surgery?
  21. Thanks so much! I can't wait until I'm able to drink again like I used to. I'm so sick of sipping, lol. You really helped me with my worries. Thanks again!

    Ghrelin

It is decreased in both. I took a nutrition class and I learned this.

    WLS Failure?

I've heard of them, but it's because the people are true emotional eaters and find actual happiness from food. They were probably not fully committed to the surgery. Though, I must say, I've heard this surgery has up to an 89% success rate of the patients keeping off over 50% of the weight lost for at least 10 years. I'm almost 3 weeks post-op, and I can barely eat 4 bites of soft food. I love it at first, but after the 3rd or 4th bite, I no longer want it. It's crazy! Lol.
  24. Your body is probably in shock from extreme nervousness, and it's making you think you feel nothing. Tomorrow you may feel overwhelmed and start feeling true nervousness. It will be ok! You'll do great!
  25. First of all, YAY for no longer being stalled! But, eating soft food is extremely challenging. I ate ramen noodles last night, and I tried extremely hard to eat slowly and in small bites. After just 5 bites, I no longer wanted it. It also felt as if my food got stuck in my sternum and I could barely swallow my own spit. I was drooling profusely over the sink. Today, I tried eating noodles again. Same thing happened. I actually had to try and make myself throw up because the pain was so bad. I only ate about 2 ounces of noodles and that alone was challenging. I would only take half-teaspoon bites, so I know I'm not taking large bites. I had a hiatal hernia (the size of a golf ball) repaired during surgery. I never had problems with it before. But now, I feel as if I actually have one. Has anyone experienced this? Should I go get an endoscopy?
