    biginjapan got a reaction from Tinatx in Did anyone start questioning surgery after having success with the preop diet? Having
    I lost more weight pre-op (22 pounds in 3 weeks) than in any month post-op (the highest was 18 pounds in a month). But did I ever second-guess my decision to self-pay for my surgery? Absolutely not. Anyone can lose weight. The problem I think almost everyone here has is that it's almost impossible to keep off - the body fights back to get back to where it was. You get the dreaded plateau and start to gain again. In 6 months post-op the scale has only gone down for me (like a series of steps - holds steady for a week or two, then just drops). That has never happened in 20+ years of trying to lose weight. Think of the surgery as a reset button for your body - it gives you a fresh start, instead of the enormous handicap (metabolic set-point, possible insulin and leptin resistance, etc) that you will be dealing with if you don't have the surgery.

    Thanks for the suggestions, BIJ. I love mint tea but haven't had it in forever. Not sure what miso is but will google that now. Thanks for hearing me.

    A lot of GERD post-op is self created. Over eating is the main culprit but peopel won't admit to it. I follow this girl on IG, she has WLS before me, she eats like a damn trucker in amounts I can't even imagine, and she is claiming GERD when really she has been over eating since day one.

    biginjapan got a reaction from Newme17 in Does anyone purposely go to bed hungry or do you eat if you're hungry right at bedtim
    Actually, I've noticed that I've been starting to snack before bedtime - a bad habit that happens out of boredom? I don't know. I really want to kick this habit but I'm not sure how, other than drinking some water and maybe doing something else (reading, going to bed) to keep my mind off things. I'm not really hungry, I think it's "ghost" hunger reminding me of what I used to do. Luckily summer holidays are coming up so I'm hoping that will help me shake up some of the bad habits I've been redeveloping.

    Thanks @Newme17! I usually wake up at 4:30 every morning (well, weekdays), so it makes more sense for me to do it then, rather than in the evening when I am tired and spent after a 12-hour day at work.

    That's great @biginjapan! Great to hear from you too!!! My gym is 24 hours too, but there's no way I'd go before work...lol Tried that and it doesn't work for me. I have from time to time gone at 9 or 10 in the evening...usually weekends. The 24 hours are very convenient. I'm happy you get to utilize it soon!

    That's funny - I just came to that realisation as well! I did some research last night and found out that Gold's Gym here in Japan is now open 24 hours - which means I can go in for early morning workouts before work! I'm so excited, but I won't join until September as I'll be away for most of August.

    @Newme17 - I so feel for you!
    I haven't had anything "old" flare-up, but I have noticed that various bits of my body get creaky and cranky for short periods of time (up to a week) and then it kind of disappears. However, I have had a long history of bad backs (herniated disc), bad feet (plantar fasciitis and now it appears that I have heel spurs (no more fat padding!)), and perennially bad knees. As I result, every time I try to "step it up" to increased my activity, something always happens that sets me back worse than I was before I started, and for much longer. Now, luckily the weight is not so much the issue, but I do know that after turning 35, and especially after turning 40, things begin to go rapidly down hill! (at least they did for me). So I'm taking the activity part of my weight loss slowly - lots of walking, hills and stairs are okay, but nothing even remotely high impact or overly strenuous (although I'm now at the point where I do think it would be safe to go a bit harder). I also have to find some lighter weights to use, because the ones I currently have at home (which in the past seemed too light for me) are now too heavy and may cause injury if I continue to use them for weight training (I've been using the video on YouTube you suggested a while back). So...that's a long story but basically I think you are doing the right thing by taking a step back for a little while. We have to learn to listen to cues from our bodies, and remember that changes take time.

    biginjapan got a reaction from Newme17 in So I used to do Pilates and loved the feeling of being stretched and limber afterward
    It might be the weight loss - I can't sit on anything hard for more than 5 minutes without my legs going numb and/or hurting my tailbone. Even though I still have some padding I feel like a lumpy pillow - the "padding" just moves out of the way when you put anything on it!

    I wish I could work out in the evenings - if I do I get way too keyed up and it takes a long time for me to fall asleep afterwards. Unfortunately, most days I have no time in the mornings either...

    The good and the bad - it sucks to be in a break-up, but it's great when you know you are better off than being in a toxic relationship. I'm perpetually single (always have been, probably always will be) but I really don't understand the partners of people who go through bariatric surgery. What did they think would happen?
    I've been going through something similar - I recently reunited with my birth father (!) - very unexpectedly - and despite him saying he has a "big heart" he often goes hot (always emailing me) and cold (ignoring me if I say something he doesn't like, or in the most recent case, postponing our first meet-up). However, I found out about him about 2 months after surgery and even then I was pulling back a bit because all I could think about was "I don't need this drama in my life right now, I can't afford to go off the rails because of emotional ups and downs" - but it's hard to know the right way forward.

    My boobs are also full of loose skin. They don't fall out of my bra (I'm not sure they ever would do their shape I guess) but I feel I will probably need to go to a B cup soon (I was a very full D at the time of surgery). I'm already saving up for the breast lift I know I'll need to have.
