James, after such change to your body, it is not uncommon to feel like you do. Keep focused on the reasons you did this and the positive changes that are to come. 18 pounds is a great start, and while the weight loss will be great in the long run, think about all of the things you will be able to do that was difficult before.

What are some things that you have always wanted to do before but haven't been able to? Keep positive, your gonna do great!

By the way, walking has been the best thing for my gas. Keep moving!

If you can at all afford a trainer for a couple of sessions, do it! Mine showed me plenty of HIIT moves to combine with cardio. If you're interested in the machines, tell them! Watch YouTube videos! Download couch 2 5k. You may do the first week many times (I did!) But it's a great way to work up your endurance. If they have an arc trainer , try that. It's a hell of a work out with minimal impact on your joints.

My surgery date is August 1st as well. I found out yesterday that we aren't required a pre-opt diet but want me to lose about 5-10 lbs. For the next 6 wks, I'm suppose to eat fruit and veggies first then my Protein and lift light weights to tone. Crazy how all our plans are different. I'm not quite 5'1 and weighed 174 yesterday.

Don't buy too much prior to surgery, your taste buds will change...
Whatever you choose, stick with Whey Protein Isolate... my doctor does not recommend Premier Protein for the first 6 months because it's not all whey Protein isolate, but I love that stuff...
You get what you pay for too... pay attention to the protein content per serving... some of the cheaper ones are just lighter in the protein and after surgery you need the more concentrated brands because you can't drink as much.
I'm so over the 'milky' shakes... I've started adding plain protein whey isolate to flavored Water, or buying the Isopure drinks someone else mentioned... my favorite flavor so far was the blueberry

I bought Bariatric Advantage from my dr and used it in my two- week pre/ op dirt ( added fruit as I didn't care for the vanilla or strawberry taste of the shake
Then post op I couldn't drink with fruit and it was torture to choke it down. My taste buds had changed and it was now way too sweet . I tried muscle milk lactose free and that was also too sweet. I ended up with Bi pro .... Simple ingredients and no added sweetness .... Perfect !
Good luck on your Protein drink journey ... Lots to try - maybe query Protein - I know I have found lots of good suggestions on multiple threads

Great job! I finally decided to buy some clothes that fit. Down from a 24-26 to a 14-16. I not only bought new clothes but changed my style. My problem is that I am hesitant to wear them. My daughters came over and took all of my work clothes so that now I have to wear the new ones lol. Keep up the good work.

You can get a premixed whey Protein Drink (Walmart sells Protein Premier )or whey powder protein, which you can mix with milk, coffee, sugar free pudding, cottage cheese...I personally liked the Isopure zero carb whey protein. It comes in a variety of flavored. I chose the unflavored so I could easily mix it with liquids and food. I had my surgery May 2015 and still drink it. They also have an isopure flavored grape drink, and they are great because they taste like grape kool aid and right after my surgery I lived on the grape drink. Look online at Amazon or if you have a GNC near you they sell Isopure and other brands, they helped me a lot.

Better than sippy cup you can get about 100 medicine cups from Amazon for about $3-5. I had to reorder after my first week. And I highly recommend that you DO in fact make a serious investment in your Protein. Since you will no longer be spending money on other food you can have a spending spree on your protein and liquid and Vitamins and still save money. I highly recommend Premier Protein vanilla shakes, Vitamin Water Zero, and Pacific "Bone Stock" chicken broth. You can get these all on Amazon. The Premier Protein are READY to drink...i.e. No powder. They are $7.62 for 4 or $1.90 each and if you were getting a less expensive meal pre op let me know. The Bone Stock is ridiculously expensive at about $5 for two 8 oz servings but again that's $2.50 per meal now which is NOT expensive. Just also keep in mind that you will not sit down the day you get home from the hospital and chug an entire 8oz of broth or an entire 11 oz premier protein at once. It will take you at least an hour to get down that much of either. If you are buying powder Bariatric Advantage is the highest quality and best nutrition that there is and their Orange Cream flavor is very nice. If you skimp on this stuff, you are only skimping on yourself. If you get cheap vitamins you will not absorb them so well. If you get plain Campells chicken broth, well that is more of a salty liquid than a protein because it only has like 1 gram of protein per serving. Pre op I preferred and bought lots of beef consommé and chocolate shakes but post op I did not want ANYTHING remotely beefy or chocolatey. I'm 9 months out now and will have about 1 square a day of some REALLY good dark chocolate with almonds but I was about 3 months out before I really tried any. SPEND your paycheck on your nutrients:-) Do NOT shortchange yourself, this is not the time. Short changing ourselves is what got a lot of us to need the surgery to begin with. Take care of YOU girl. YOU Deserve it!!! [emoji4]
