    Rice?

You'll do great. I think that cauliflower option sounds at least worth trying. I'm going to give it a go myself. Have fun on your getaway!

    Fried chicken

How much are you eating before that happens? How quickly are you eating it? I find that I am only able to eat about the equivalent of 1 1/2 chicken wings. Or 2 wing dings annnnnnnnnnd I have to eat it over 30 -45 maybe even an hour. I cant eat it in 5-6 bites even if they are small. I get quite uncomfortable and feel the need to vomit. That hasn't happened in awhile but I do find when I eat certain foods (salmon, brisket, chicken) I fill up very quickly and not the 2-3 ounces that everyone boasts about. For me it could be 1/2 ounce to an ounce. IF I am able to eat 3 ounces it will take me at least 2 sittings to get it in. ALSO--- I can't eat other foods with it like veggies or any other sides. It just doesn't work. SO I could be wrong but it may not be that it doesn't sit well with you-- like me-- you may not be able to eat as much of it as you think you can. Have you tried just eating like 1 or 2 bites chew really well and swallow then stop for an hr? Do you still vomit? If you can tolerate a couple bites and sit on that for an hour-- you may just have to scale back on foods that are a little denser. Especially chicken with skin and coating. That may be something you have to enjoy over 2-3 sittings.
  3. Oh wow she really tried it!!! Forgive her yall for she know not what she do... bless her lil hawt. Well----it was entertaining to say the least. We needed a lil spice up in here and she gave it to us. But lemme ask this WHO GONE CHECK ME BOO?!?

    Tips to drink more water

This has been very challenging for me. I cannot gulp down Water like many. I love water, the taste it's so refreshing so satisfying but I like to drink my water ice cold. I can only take 3-4 sips at a time. By the time I take the 48th sip, I'm so over it and I don't have time to be babysitting water all day long. Iget distracted get busy doing something else and then the day is done. I do the best I can do. My intentions mean well but I'm lucky to get in 1 bottle of water 16.9 oz a day. I can get more in during workout days. I just bought these Vitamin supplements from costco called Zipfizz. It's a powder you add to your water. Loaded with B12 and Multivitamins. 1 is the equivalent to a b12 injection in the Dr office and 1 Multivitamin tablet. Far more electrolytes than Gatorade without the sugar. 0 sugar 20 calories, 2 carbs and they are tasty. They have a slight fizz to it and comes in 3 main flavors. They just added 5 new flavors but I have the original. It's helpful because it serves a dual purpose.

Let's Talk About the M Word

@@losergrl75 you are speaking to my life! This is a very interesting topic to think about. My goal weight is very similar to yours but I still have a ways to go. I am hoping to get there in about the same time as you. My thoughts are that I would be excited and living the dream when I get to where you are but I can TOTALLY see where you are coming from. Hopefully a few vets can offer their perspective on life during maintenance. I would love to see more topics about the struggles of people who are at goal weight and what their challenges are and what to keep in mind as you transition into maintenance. I think it would be a great way to keep the vets engaged and supported and a great way to see what life is like during maintenance. Maybe there is more stuff about it I should probably go searching... Congrats to you and I look forward to hearing more about your transition.

    Anal Sex Concern

All you can do is wait and see... I had the sleeve so no changes to my bowel situation however when he ejaculates in there it usually for me acts as a enema. Always has... that's just me though.

    Rice?

I know it sucks-- my post op guidelines say that I can have rice and pastas etc in limited amounts preferably whole grains. So mentally that means to me that I can have it but I probably shouldn't. I have made things like salmon cut it up and maybe put a 1-2 tablespoons of brown rice in the dish but it was really pointless. I mean mentally it made me feel like I wasn't deprived but I really wasn't doing myself any favors. I've decided while in weight loss mode I will for as long as humanly possible stay away from these types of foods. Case in point-- Last week I attended a conference. The organization provided lunch. It was Panera Bread. your choice of sandwiches ( tuna, turkey, chicken salad, ham etc etc) a bag of chips and a cookie. NOW. They could've put a apple in there or a salad or SOMETHING but I understand most people want the chips and the cookie and the soda. In retrospect, I should have brought my own stuff. Well I ate 1/3 of the turkey sandwich over 30 min which completely filled me up!!!! But then 1 hr later I wanted to finish the rest-- which I never do. But I attributed my desire to finish the sandwich to boredom. So I finished the dumb sandwich and then I started eating the kettle chips but only ate like 5. Put it down for like an hour and I was ready to eat more. So I did finish the chips over time, I finished the other half of the sandwich by dinner and basically What I'm saying is that these foods triggered a pattern of eating that I could Identify with prior to surgery. It started with the sandwich-- which was on whole wheat multigrain bread to begin with. STILL it caused a spike in my blood sugar so when it dropped it was a signal to my body that it was time to eat!!!! Now maybe it would've been ok if I say went to the gym after and spent an hr doing cardio but I didn't and so the next day-- the same thing happened-- you would've thought I learned by now. Needless to say for the rest of the week I was making choices that was not optimal to my weight loss. I was hungry, I was craving foods carbs at that. I hadn't been doing that so I determined the culprit and decided that it's not in my best interest to have things in this food group for awhile. I still managed to lose 1 lb. But I probably would've lost more and hit my personal goal of making it to onederland on target. Instead I carried on for the rest of the week then started fresh on Monday. I mean Water, and Protein shakes only. I had grilled salmon for dinner and by Tuesday I had dropped another 2 lbs allowing me to hit my target a few days later than planned. Ever since, my hunger has ceased. Cravings have stopped and I'm back to reminding myself to eat. Part of this journey is trial and error. Learning ourselves, being honest with ourselves and implementing changes that will allow us to be successful long term. Sometimes I think I can do something and then I find out that although I can do it-- it may not necessarily be the best choice. Ultimately I choose to maximize this short window of time to hit my goal weight within a year. In the meanwhile my goal is to develop habits and patterns that will take me well beyond the 1 year surgiversary into lifetime success. Hopefully your goal is similar. I can't tell you what to do. I can only share my experiences and what I've learned from them. Do speak to your team and discuss your concerns with them.

    Ice cream

lololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololol!!!!!!!!!!! ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok I'm done. Just felt like being petty today as I sit here eating this piece of rotisserie chicken... on that note-- I am off to the GYM. PS it's tough the first few weeks. Head hunger and adjusting to a new normal. It does get better. Focus on change. Right now is not the best time to think about eating cake and ice cream. Focus on meeting your Fluid and Protein goals, taking your Vitamins, getting your activity in. WHen you are on regular food you must stay away from foods that drive your hunger. CAKE, ICE CREAM, WHITE RICE, Pasta, BREAD AVOID them. Your body will thank you for it. Hang in there.
  9. Band was never an option for me. I dont like the idea of a foreign object being surgically placed inside of me...recipe for disaster. Infection, erosion, displacement. The whole going back for fills and unfills and fill again just seems far too cumbersome. Nothing against anyone who does it... I used to work on a neurosurgery unit. Shunts placed in the brain, screws in the neck rods in the spine often came back infected. Now if I had to have a pacemaker to keep my heart pumping thats another story-- Now they have a balloon they can put in you-- Im curious to hear about HCL acid eroding the balloon releasing harmful levels of air into the bloodstream and the body turning against itself because its a foreign object and all-- Ok enough. Wishing you all the best with your Bands. I'm loving my sleeve!!!!!!! So happy with my irreversible decision. One and done!
  10. I totally understand where you are coming from. Like I always thought if I could get back into the 190's I'd be satisfied. BUT I knew that when I was in the 190's before I thought I was disgustingly fat and really wanted to lose weight before I got into the 200's. When I was in the 170's I thought I was fat and just a chicken and biscuit from 200. So I never forgot my body image at any of these weights. Although the scale is descending and I am happy about that I always remember where I came from and where I'm trying to go. I'm also trying to appreciate the things that I can do at my current weight vs my highest weight and try to live in the moment.

    No longer answering these questions:

I do understand why the vets "take a break" or leave altogether. This board tends to get redundant or repetitive and it's pretty annoying sometimes to see the same questions posed over and over and over and over and over and over and over and I've only been a member since June. I don't post a lot of questions because my career is based on educating cancer patients throughout their diagnosis, treatment and management of their condition. In other words I have to look up a lot of s h I t sometimes. Theres a lot of information out there and if you look even a little bit you'll find the answers you need. I think we newbies come here wet behind the ears eager to soak up knowledge and find a happy medium between our old life and our new life. We are looking to connect with others with similar experiences and understand how others have managed. Over time we become more acclimated to the lifestyle, more understanding of what has to be done and why and hopefully less inclined to make the same mistakes that led us to need surgery in the first place. Then the newbies become the vets and the vets become more "normal" and so forth and so on. I remember when I was in nursing school. I frequented a Forum for nurses. I was on that site almost everyday. When I finally became an RN I hung around for about a year and then--- I moved on. I had tapped out. Although I had not experienced everything-- I was better equipped to handle any situation that I encountered. I understood how to access my resources and I was doing well on my own. I offered advice and encouragement to other newbies but I had my co workers and nursing school buddies to share war stories with. I no longer needed the forum. I was no longer benefitting. I find myself bypassing certain topics because there is not a lack of people willing to answer or comment. There is no need for me to answer grudgingly or hastily because I think someone lacks complete common sense. Let someone else have the floor.
  12. Onederland is finally here!!! 4 days past my expected date of arrival. This post looks far more excited than I actually am. It's more or less satisfying to be here now. I also feel like I can jump on the scale tomorrow and it will say 201.2. It's my sometimes scorpio pessimism that does not allow me to enjoy the fruits of my labor. For now-- I'm dabbin on em' B#@! Things I'm looking forward to

YAAAAAAS YAAAAAAAS! This and this!! At 3 mos post op-- I do not have to shop in the plus dept. I can but I can fit most Large and even some mediums. I am technically still plus size but I am now able to finally take my rightful position in the stores I was meant to shop in!!! And that makes me feel confident! Next year-- my 20th reunion will be on a cruise ship to the Bahamas. I will be there with bells on. Looking as good as I did when I was in my 20's. I don't really talk to any of my old classmates but I'll be there with my hubby. If it turns out to be lame, he and I will still have a great time on the other side of the cruise ship no matter what. Yaaaaaas girl hang in there-- it's coming!!! I'm married but I do miss getting hit on like I used to a woman needs to be able to turn heads to feel sexy sometimes. HOWEVER-- when it does start to happen, which it is a little bit-- I only have eyes and loyalty for my hubby. He stood by me and made me feel beautiful through it all. The other guys can kiss my ass. I'm going to hold my head up high flash my ring and keep it moving. Going to Cedar Point in 2 weeks for HALLOWEEKENDS. The last time I was there with my family-- I was turned away from 3 rides because the belts wouldn't fit and I was sooooo embarrassed. I doubt that will happen this time! LOOKING SO FORWARD TO IT! All great goals and NSV's. I just related to these ones so well I had to shout!!!

    Popcorn

I have popcorn very far and few between since surgery. 3 x's to be exact. Movie popcorn is not such a good idea with all the butter and salt that's usually in it. Don't do that to yourself. Eating before you go is a good idea, bringing Protein sources with you is also a good idea. Jerky, cheese, grilled chicken in a little sandwich bag, nuts. Or-- you could just bring a healthier version of popcorn like a skinny pop if you just have to have it. I know the smell is enticing but we must stray away from the behaviors and the types of food that caused us to gain weight in the first place. Was it all popcorn? no but its the concept of "I can't go to the movies and not have popcorn" mentality that has to be controlled. It could be a trigger food for you. If you feel so strongly don't go to the movies for awhile. It's not that you can never eat popcorn again but it's about doing it in the right way. The way that's healthy for you. Can you eat just 1 cup? Does it have to be loaded with salt and butter? Can you enjoy it the way it was meant to be? Do you have to have popcorn just because you are at the movies? Can you have a piece of fruit instead? Can you eat a well balanced meal before you go? Thoughtful planning vs mindless eating.

    Gained 15 lbs. Help!

I'm only 3 months post op but-- at almost 2 years out you should have a better handle on this situation. I doubt there is much you will be able to do in 5 days. I suggest gaining control of your eating-- by following the guidelines provided to you post op. Start from there. You did not provide much in the way of info in terms of what behaviors led you to a 15 lb gain? What are you currently doing? Not sure if you are exercising-- meeting your Protein, or Fluid requirements? Are you taking in too many carbs, calories, over what period of time did this gain occur? You should still be closely monitoring your weight to make adjustments as necessary. In the meanwhile I would dust myself off and get a good shapewear undergarment, wear an outfit that is flattering to your body type and start fresh. If necessary make an appt with your surgical team meet with your dietician review your current intake and relax you can do this. You've come this far-- use the tool to your advantage the rest is up to you. I'm rooting for you!!!!!!

When is the stall going to come?

im 3 months post op. I haven't really experienced a stall yet. I have some weeks where I lose a small amount like 1 lb but its still a loss. Close to my cycle like now I tend to hover back and forth 2 lbs. for about a week even 2. After, I'll have a larger loss like 5-8lbs. My losses have been steady. Embrace it! I understand we only have about 9-12 months to lose like this after that it slows down significantly. I plan to take full advantage and reach under goal within that time. That way-- I can work on maintainence.

    Starbucks

I have a skinny Caramel Machiatto every sunday since I was about 10 weeks post op. I don't have to, on sundays I'm up very early for my daughters fall league softball games... it helps wake me up and i hasnt caused a stall or made me crave.
  18. @tsawyer91Just curious-- Did you have surgery in August? If so that would only put you at 2 months... or 8/9 weeks If you had the surgery for example August 8th. I say 9 weeks because there was an extra week in September. My Surgery was July 1st, I'm just hitting my 3 month mark actually 3 month and 1 week due to the extra week in Sept. Anyways your doing amazing @ 2 months out!!! Did you lose anything pre op or was all your weight lost post op?
  19. Kudos to you for being concerned. Obviously you care for your friend therefore you care for her daughter just the same!!! Don't let a few people's insensitivities deter you or infuriate you either. Just actively ignore them-- don't even respond... Anyways your friend may need either a 2nd opinion by a alternative pediatrician, or request a referral to a Pediatric Endocrinologist to be further evaluated. As a health care professional I cannot urge the importance of advocating in you and your loved ones health care. Dr.s are so overwhelmed they hardly have time to truly evaluate you especially if you're not half dead. I have had patients who have had Cancer diagnosis overlooked because their Dr just kept prescribing antibiotics and diagnosing with pneumonia when they in fact had LUNG cancer. Trust your gut. Other areas will have to be looked at such as her diet. Meeting with a dietician to come up with a healthy meal plan for her may be just the start she needs. However endocrine disorders also need to be ruled out. Just because she's vegan does not mean she's not carb overloading. Many vegans have this issue and can easily become overweight. Good Luck to you and your friend and her daughter. I have PCOS, developed at age 28. They say it can be hereditary but my mom does not have it nor does her sisters. I think either my weight gain during nursing school triggered it or years of yo yo dieting to keep my weight in check. My grandmother could have had it-- she wasn't real big but always looked pregnant to me. She is deceased now. Anyways My daughter was picking up weight and like 25 lbs a year sooooo I was concerned for PCOS. Before taking her to the Dr. I looked closely at her diet and made some changes she has since lost 15 lbs and still going.
  20. I don't think so. I had PCOS but it was my elevated BP that qualified as a co morbid. Hypertension, Diabetes, COPD, Congestive heart failure, Asthma, sleep Apnea, Coronary Artery Disease, Chronic Kidney Disease these all fall under co morbids as I'm sure many others do as well. These conditions can be prevented or controlled. Chronic conditions lasting 6 months or longer uncontrolled could Kill you over time. Think about that... PCOS wont kill you-- could lead to metabolic syndrome-- Diabetes but PCOS itself properly managed that has not exacerbated into Metabolic syndrome will not kill you directly. However Sleep Apnea could. COPD could. DM could. Hope that makes sense. Anemia-- could be Iron deficiency related, or sub clinical. Either way it won't kill you directly likely you would become symptomatic and seek medical attention and be administered a blood transfusion. I'm sure I'm wrong somewhere here but we're speaking in terms of "qualifying comorbids" for WLS conditions that are costing health insurance companies and tax payers billions of dollars to treat patients every year. Conditions that have a high correlation to obesity. Or known to diminish once obesity is controlled. Just a guess...
  21. **Clears throat** Not suggesting that you do it... this is my experience only. I smoke weed. I have since day 4 or 5 post op. I don't get the munchies maybe it's the strain but anyways if I do have the desire to eat I'll eat a couple pieces of chicken or some turkey wrapped in cheese and I'm good after 2-3 bites. Seriously. I can't drink-- so I smoke. Zero calories-- feels great. Get the muchies? Eat some cheese. Make sure you talk to your Dr. about this. I am not qualified to give you an answer only sharing my experience.
  22. OMG calm down!!!!!! You are doing great by the way. By the time I hit 6 weeks I had only lost 25 lbs. My goal was to get to 30lbs by 6 weeks but I didn't---- SO WHAT!!!!!! My goal was to get to Onederland by 10/1 and I didn't--- SO WHAT!!!!!! Those are just personal goals that I set to push myself. As long as you're losing not gaining. There are some weeks where I only lose 0.8 lbs, some weeks I lose nothing. Then I have a good week. Your body needs time to adjust and calibrate. Do you measure yourself? It's not all in the scales. At some point I was honest with myself and knew I wasn't as active as I should be so I stepped up my activity level. From 2 days a week to 4-5 days a week. Weight loss picked up--I saw better results. Keep doing what you are supposed to and it will happen over time. Think BIGGER PICTURE. Long term. Not day to day. Try weighing at the same time preferably mornings and try to limit your weigh ins to once a week. Log your weights and observe your trends. You will find you are doing much better than you think you are. Hang in there and try not to be so hard on yourself. You're doing great.

    NSV shout outs

#1 NSV!!!!! Tried on a pair of 10's just to see if they would fit me a little bit 3-4 weeks ago. ( I like to test the waters) They did not so I bought the 12's. They look great. I love the dark dark denim wash and these jeans snatch your waist and lift your butt. I wanted to buy the 10's for later but decided not to be impulsive. I went back yesterday to get some items out of layaway and came across the jeans I loved. I figured I still wasn't ready for them but I wanted to grab them to wear later like next month or so-- since they are such a great fit (good jeans are hard to find). I took them home and before hanging them up I tried them on to see how far I'd have to go and to my surprise they fit like a glove!!!! I have a pair of Kenneth Cole jeans in a size 12 that must be 8's in real life because I can't even get them on for at least another 20lbs. I'll be super happy to get into them but for now I'm basking in my VICTORY!!!!! #2 Another NSV-- while I was at the store there was this really cute guy who I could tell kept trying to get my attention but very subtly. He was hoping I would make eye contact so that he could engage me but I had my ear buds on and I was bopping and looking everywhere but directly at him. I kept running into him but you see I already peeped him and decided the moment I saw him I was physically attracted to him soooo I refrained from any personal contact with him. yes a simple "hi sweetheart how are you today"? could spark something. I don't trust myself yet. I am happily married but I have harmless tendencies that could get me in trouble so I do what I gotta even if that means being a little rude which I wasn't in this case. #3 I hung out with my friends over the weekend and we took pics !!!!! For the first time in forever-- I actually liked the way I looked in the picture compared to everyone else. I was pleased! I wan't the "fat one" anymore. I blended in with everyone else. Such a great feeling. I am 2 lbs from onederland. So I am looking forward to hitting that in the next couple days. Adios!
