  1. I can't wait until the 26th of this month, so we can say we are a month post. I am not going to weigh again until then and take some after pics to see if I can SEE a difference. I know my clothes are looser and a couple people have already asked if I was losing, but I don't know if I can tell a difference yet physically.

I want to wait til the 26th to weigh too (great idea) but i have my dr appt on monday!

  3. My Dr. said it wasn't an infection without a fever. So I would just keep and eye on it. Is it oozing any or wet feeling? Hopefully it's just irritated.

Wheew. Its a lil wet feeling in the corner thats red but yayy no fever. Im hoping its just irritated. Thank u for your reply. My hubby is a fireman/medic and said the same thing lol. But i dont listen to him. I want to listen to u guys!!!! Haha. Im hopin irritated. The i cision is right where my shorts/pants go so it gets rubbed a bit. Ahhhhhh. THANKS!

It looks to me like it got irritated, as you said, it is on your pants line. I would put some neosporin type cream on it and cover it while you have pants on or wear a dress or something that will not rub it.

  4. Thanks ChaCha77 - that does help! How long are you on purees before you can add regular food? And are there certain things you can and can't eat when you do go on regular food? Is chewing thoroughly a new lifelong habit to gain?

It really isn't THAT hard. Don't let yourself overthink this. These are issues you are perfectly aware of, so plan ahead. Get a Water bottle you like that holds about 30 oz. Carry it with you at all times. Make sure you go through 2 a day. Pick out Protein sources you like and stock up. There are so many options. The hard part is remembering to eat throughout the day. I am on yogurt and chili (pureed) because it is 2 things I love. I will probably eat these 2 things all day til I tire of them and then move on to something else. A Protein shake (30 g), a yogurt (15 g) and chili (15 g) and you've got your protein for the day. Of course that is split up into 6 meals :) You will do fine!

My nerves around this surgery are the afterward. I can't wrap my mind around the difficulties drinking fluids, and eating. Is it supposed to be so hard? I get so lightheaded and ill if I don't get protein even now. So I'm worried about being able to work and be able to think straight if I'm barely able to drink or eat....

I work for a non profit, but tomorrow we have to work a normal day, then we have a fundraising event in the evening, so yeah, long day. Today, I had about 45 g of protein and about 60 ounces of Water. Not quite where it needs to be, but it was my first day on purees and I think it will take a little practice

My surgeon does 2 weeks liquid, 2 weeks pureed, 2 weeks soft, then regular food. Of course they say no alcohol, popcorn, sweets, or carbs like bread, rice, Pasta, and I probably won't have have any of those for a while, mainly because I truly want to focus on protein being that I cannot eat very much.

  5. Please tell me what and how much you all are eating at this point. What does a typical day look like?

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I don't know what an average day is SUPPOSED to look like really, but what I try to do is one Protein Shake (30 g protein) and something else like a yogurt or a pureed dish (refried Beans, eggs, yogurt) for about another 15 g of Protein, and as much Water (usually flavored) as I can stomach. I know that I am not up to my goals just yet but it is a work in progress.

  6. I am 4 weeks out today! Having a little hard time getting in my protien, I'm only getting in about 20 grams. I'm not hungry so that's good. I work daily on meeting my protien goal. I see the weight coming off but I hit a stall at three weeks. I hope it start moving soon. I feel great, no pain at all! So glad I did this.

At 4 weeks out, you should definitely be getting more than 20 g of Protein a day. A shake is 30, what are you eating? Remember you will lose more weight if you eat the protein and work out. Best of luck to you.

  8. Okay, if there is one thing I have learned from this surgery is that EVERY patient has a different story, so read all you want, but yours will not be the same. The pain of the surgery does not hurt much. I am 9 days post, and the only pain I feel is a little bit of my large incision tenderness. The gas pain however after surgery was awful for me. I was up and walking as often as I could, but it was pretty bad still. I was nauseous to the point of dry heaving for about 5 days after surgery (not typical). I feel great now, I just tire pretty easily and so am only working half days, so I can nap/rest. It is just getting used to how my new stomach feels and getting all my Fluid in. Best of luck to you in your journey!

@@ChaCha77 - surprised you are back to work so quickly after surgery! I was planning on 2 weeks off, but perhaps I won't need so long off.
Today was my first full day back and it was perfect. I am finally rested enough to come back full day strong. Tomorrow is a 12 hour day though, so I may have a different story tomorrow night lol

  10. My mom had bypass surgery about 12 years ago. It honestly saved her life, but it caused so many problems for her that I KNEW I would never have it done. Years later, I heard people talking about the lap band and I knew that wasn't for me either. I had never put much more thought into surgery than that, even though I had been overweight my entire life and since the birth of my son, had been getting progressively bigger and bigger.

I still kept trying to lose the weight on my own, to no success (or temporary success) and was getting more frustrated with myself by the day. I couldn't play with my very active toddler for long and had just been diagnosed with diabetes. Then a friend of mine, who is considerably smaller than me said she was scheduled to have sleeve surgery. It was like a sign that smacked me in the face. I came to the conclusion that my situation was more than I could accomplish alone and that I needed help. It was sort of a "failure" thing with me, but I have never been one to ask for any type of help without thinking of it as being something I should be able to handle by myself.

Choosing surgery is not admitting defeat and I think that is what I really had to wrap my head around. There is nothing wrong with asking for help when you truly need it. For me, the decision came down to my son. If this help that I am getting is going to give me a longer healthier life to spend with my son, I am more than okay with that.

Remember that this is a tool for the rest of your life and not a quick fix. You need to tell your husband, so that you guys can use this tool together. Otherwise, you may be setting yourself up for failure.

  11. Has anyone had to get a small hiatal hernia repair along with your sleeve? If so does it make you in much more pain? or does it make you feel more sick?

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I did. It did not make the surgery any more painful, but I do feel a little discomfort (I don't want to call it pain)after, almost like the opening is too small for even liquids to go down, and I have to wait for it to pass. It is supposed to get better soon, I am only a week post.

  12. Has anyone else been to their post-op appt.? How is everyone doing? Any good weight loss numbers yet or good progress? I do not have my appt. until Monday and do not want to step on a scale until then. I hope it is good news!

I cant believe after not keeping much down all this time that the scale could be anything but down for you! As of yesterday I was 10 lbs down since surgery.

Sent from my VS990 using the BariatricPal App

I was weighing at first when I wasn't eating and the scale was looking pretty. Now that I'm doing better and trying to get my Protein and fluids in, I'm afraid it won't look as good now, but I'm still trying not to weigh until then for a surprise. I just have to remind myself, no matter the number, it will be a loss and a step forward.

I had mine yesterday, I've lost 8 lbs since surgery and have lost over 20 lbs in general. Still on liquids and can start purée next week.
