My insurance (Aetna) in NJ required 6 mos of monitored nutritionist and doctor visits, ultrasound, upper endoscopy, psych eval, and primary care clearance. I started in January. I go for my sleeve Friday morning.

My surgery date is the day after tomorrow, June 15, 2016!
Holy moly can't believe it's almost here!!! Losers bench here I come.

Here I am in liver shrinking land. I can't believe it's been 6 months since I finally got the ball rolling after toying with the idea for 3 years. I have a friend who did her sleeve almost 3 years ago and she's doing great. That has been very inspiring. I'm excited yet nervous, but ready to go. June 17 is the day.

Here we go. Protein diet underway. I feel like the last 6 months of insurance hoops has flown by compared to now. I'm nervous, but I'm ready and am so happy to have a place to ask questions and read about others just like me.

My surgeon didn't make it sound like he wouldn't do it if my liver wasn't "shrunk" enough. He just explained that the bigger it is the more in the way it can be and might possibly be more prone to injury when they try to keep it out of their way with the surgical instruments during the procedure.

Everything hurts all the time. My joints, my back, and my feet ache on the daily. Between sleep apnea and GERD I am afraid the next malady will be a heart attack or something else related to my poor physical condition. I'm afraid to die and leave my family alone to grieve over a stupid death that might have been avoided with better health. I only get this one life. I don't want to miss any of it.

First puréed food
in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story

Today was my first puréed food. I chose a poached egg in part because I love them and also because it's a super soft food to begin with. First spoonful was good. The second, a little rough. I got through it. It was more than enough food for the first meal. Baby steps.
