Cooking for the family and friends
highfunctioningfatman replied to highfunctioningfatman's topic in Food and Nutrition
We did 3 batches total of the asparagus. What was really cool is that the faux potatoes were a hit, 90%of a big ol salad was gone, the chicken was loved by all and that the only carb heavy item was the broccoli balls, they are always popular but we just made the one batch so they are gone. If I can find an alternative to the stove top stuffing used in the balls then perhaps those will be healthier too. Thanks on my username! It is true though, my fat wasn't causing me "problems" but it was a problem in itself. -

Sleeved Aug 29th
highfunctioningfatman replied to SleeveG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
29th here as well. Pain free after the first 6 hours. Discomfort for a day. I was wore out on Thursday after Walmart shopping but Friday I did a longer round of Walmart and Safeway both. I walked 2 miles with my brother in law doing dishes golf today and I still feel great. Tomorrow I'm going salmon fishing. I start pureed diet tomorrow. -

Flying 3 days post op
highfunctioningfatman replied to klmmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Four hours total over 2 flights on Wednesday. No problem. -
Had a bunch of family and friends over tonight. Rib eyes, shrimp, a potato, onion and mushroom dish all on the grill. My wife did broccoli balls in the oven. Of course I can't have any of it. I had broth and that's ok. At 4 weeks out I can have normal foods. I did realize that watchin them eat is like going to a strip club, no matter how much ya wanna, ya ain't gonna get any!

17 days out.. Any seafood?
highfunctioningfatman replied to sdc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on Monday and I have 6 people that I'm cooking for tonight. The bbq is loaded with rib eyes, shrimp and a potato, onion and mushroom dish that is always requested. Tomorrow I will be doing smoked, bacon wrapped, mushroom and parsley stuffed chicken thighs. Of course I can't have any of it. Oh well. This guy is going to be rebuilt into a healthy skinny guy and that is truly amazing! -
The mighty scale
highfunctioningfatman replied to highfunctioningfatman's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Damn you guys... I shot the piss out of my scale and it felt great! Fifty rounds through my .357 up in the woods making that piece of crap dance! Ahhhhh! One of my other duties at work is that I teach defensive driving. I was teaching a class 2 days before my pre op diet and I was stressing using mirrors while backing not just the camera. I always stress that the back up camera is a tool, the mirrors are a tool, keeping your eyes moving is a skill and a tool, getting your happy butt out of the seat and looking behind you isn't you lacking skills, it is using your brain as a tool. Then came my training line that hit me right between the eyes, "a mechanic doesn't just use a screwdriver, he uses every tool available to him to get the job done right". I went out and bought another scale. Not a fancy thing that I hate like my last one that I had to type with my toes to get that damn thing to work but a simple one that I step on it, it gives me a number and I tell it to piss off. My doctor can still kiss my already saggy ass though. I still have no desire to have my number defined in the scrolls of time. -
Goin fishin?
highfunctioningfatman replied to highfunctioningfatman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The day is set. Monday is salmon slaying day! I'm doing great. I confirmed with my surgeon that I can rip the lips off of a salmon and pass the pole to my brother in law. I don't care if I get a bite, I'm going to have a great time. For those who fish, we have beautiful chromer Chinooks averaging 30 pounds in the Rogue right now!!! -
Successful surgery yesterday in Mexicco!
highfunctioningfatman replied to turtle5569's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Glad to see that someone else had a good experience like I did! http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/376089-wasting-away-in-margaritaville -
I work for a nation wide oxygen and respiratory company. When I first started we were using battery operated oxygen conserving devices. You can't use petroleum products with oxygen because of the possibility of spontaneous combustion. I was behind one of our customers in Safeway and she quite clearly told the clerk that she needed these items so she could have "a great time at bingo tonight". She was buying C cell batteries and KY jelly (water based lube). The clerk looked horrified!

What happens after day 30?!
highfunctioningfatman replied to jeca23's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Real food in small portions. Try one item at a time to see if you can tolerate it. After you find stuff that you can't tolerate, try that food again in a couple of weeks. -
A big step for me tonight. I am not one to share things like my sleeve with many people. I decided after the excellent care, experience and what I saw, that the potentials are of a bad experience should be voiced. Seeing those 4 women looking in such bad shape really impacted me. I explained my entire story and posted it on an automotive website. I am quite active on that site, I have close to 4,000 posts there. A couple of pictures for you guy though. The last week of July. Last night in San Francisco. I've already dropped a notch in my belt as well.

Let's see how this goes.

I have to admit that I'm quite surprised. Everybody that has responded to my thread on the automotive website has been positive. One of the guys even mentioned that his wife had rny earlier this year. I feel that I've earned a certain level of respect on that site and I don't know if it would've been been the same for someone who wasn't as active as I am. -
Tips for flight to Mexico
highfunctioningfatman replied to speechiegirl's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I bought vitamin water and found a restaurant that had chicken noodle soup. I asked for just the broth and that I would gladly pay full price. No problem. -

Day 4 and already had to tighten my belt up a notch. -
Did anybody meet somebody that had Gastric sleeve surgery prior to when you had yours?
highfunctioningfatman replied to TracyBar's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I personally know of 5 people who have been to my surgeon in Mexico. Of those 3 are health care professionals. They all said that it is the cleanest facility they have ever been to period. When I was there I walked the halls barefoot and my feet were perfectly clean. -

Reality is setting in...
highfunctioningfatman replied to loca_lette813's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in the same boat. One minute I'm excited next minute I'm scared sometimes I'm like yeah whatever, sometimes it's why did I wait this long. Then what am I doing. I have no real doubts. I am 100% ready for this but the emotions just roll.I'm lucky to travel between now and Sept 19. I get to ride in a Tall Ship during a parade of sail. I might be able to go into a helo to take aerial photos of the event. I'm waiting game for final clearance in the latter. Staying in my favorite hotel for just about a week for work. Hopefully this will keep my mind busy for the most part. I am having one big (ish) who cares meal at the melting pot. I've totally been craving this experience. I refuse to call it a "food funeral" because when I hit my goal and eating at whatever my normal diet will be, I should be able to eat a modified menu there if I choose to. Who knows I may not even want to. Ack... it's coming soon. Lol Sent from my SM-G935V using the BariatricPal App I didn't have a "food funeral" but for my last meal prior to the liquid diet I had bacon wrapped shrimp. I will have them again but my wife will order them and i'll eat some of hers. -
What is that first post-op week like?
highfunctioningfatman replied to SamPSUfan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My date is tomorrow as well, I expect discomfort and a bit of minor pain and irritation. I intentionally left small things undone around the house to get me moving, I have some various yard tools to put away (all less than 10 pounds) minor repairs to do, im going to work on Friday to interview a potential employee. If I feel good then my brother in law and I will go fishing this weekend. -
