  1. I have told almost all of my immediate family and friends but that's because I had some other circumstances surrounding my decision and also a health problem which meant that if I kept putting on weight at the rate that I did it literally would have killed me. The only people I haven't been up front with are my work colleagues, other than 2 who I'm really close to. I think that I'll decide whether to be honest or not on a case by case basis. However if any of my friends that don't know ask me and they're overweight I'm going to be honest, so they too know that starving yourself and dieting forever isn't their only option. People who think this is a cop out obviously have no freaking idea!! This is a drastic, drastic life style change and not an easy one!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  2. Thanks lol Did you seriously not feel this way at all?? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  5. Hey, I thought this was the best place to post this. I have Lupus and have been on prednisone since January and put on 60+ pounds. It's part of the reason I decided to have a VSG I was just wondering if there's anyone else on here that was on it immediately post op and if it changed how much weight you lost? I have really been able to find any information on the web and will be asking my surgeon at my last pre op appointment. So thought I would turn to the next best thing, this awesome community! 6. I know, if it wasn't doing what it was supposed to I'd hate it even more, but it is working. I wish someone had explained what it did to any sugar whatsoever that I ingested!! But it saved my life and I can't pretend it didn't! 60mgs is stacks, I can't even imagine!! It's taken me 4 months to wean from 50mg to 10mg and will now take me another 8 months to go from 10mg to nothing. I'm just scared I suppose that it's going to fuck this up as well. When you get sick you just assume that the Drs will give you all of the information! I hate Drs that treat you like a mushroom!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  7. I have been told that I'll take longer to heal - I have to do the post op liquid diet for 3 weeks and I currently take a PPI every time I take my tablets. Glad I have a script for them cause sounds like they're going to come in handy lol I've also spoken to my rheumatologist and been told I can discontinue all of my Lupus meds till 1 week post op, except prednisone. I'm only on 10mg atm and will be tapering it down 1 mg at a time every 3 weeks. Thank you for responding to my post I have found it really hard to find anyone who has any experience being in prednisone immediately post op When's your surgery date?? Mine's on the 7th, getting a little excited now Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  8. Yeah, you're only 4 days behind me who's doing your surgery?? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  12. I'm actually not in a liquid diet - love my NUT. I'm on a no carb, no sugar, high Protein diet. It's still hard but no where near as bad as the shakes. I've been using sugar free jelly, which kind of tricks your body into thinking it's a treat, that's helping also Just keeping thinking about what you'll look like this time next year. That's what's keeping me focused and determine not to cheat and also helped me lose 10 pounds in a week Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  13. My surgery's on June 7th too Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  14. I'm in this stage as well and I keep trying to think the more weight I lose now the better chance I have at reaching my goal weight after surgery. It's the only thing keeping me going. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  15. How are you feeling at 5 weeks? I think the first week post op is what I'm most worried about Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  16. I get that and thank you for giving me a guy's perspective And I'm defs jumping the gun as there is nobody new as yet, but I would like there to be eventually. I could actually say I was in a knife fight as I have another 2 knife sized wounds on my back too lol Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  17. I am also concerned about loose skin but don't know what it will look like yet as my surgery's not till June 7th. I suppose I'm just worried about telling the wrong person. I've been pretty up front with everyone about why I'm having WLS. I just know that with my other medical problem I also had to have an operation and have scars from that too. I suppose I'll just have to wait and see. It's just so hard to know if someone will be supportive or not. I have a lot of information to get out before I even think about someone else seeing me naked lol and if I really like them I don't want to scare them away. 18. Thanks for responding guys, just hit the 10 day mark, actually don't mind the diet they've got me on - high Protein, no carb, no sugar. Who did your surgeries?? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Prednisone During Surgery

I know this is an old thread, so hope you still check it. I have Lupus and am on 10mg of Prednisone daily and am getting sleeved on 7th June. Would love, love, love to hear from someone else who started their journey on Prednisone and had to continue to take it post op. I also take CellCept and Plaquenil daily. My rheumatologist told me I can discontinue all of my meds for the week after surgery, except the Prednisone. I will also be tapering the dose down over the next couple of months, hopefully to nothing. Would love to hear from someone else who was also on these meds and whether or not if affected your weight loss post op. So hope you check this and can help me Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  21. So I started my pre op VCLD shakes and Soups today, surgery date is June 7th. I'm still hungry but I don't care cause it will all be worth it in a years time I'm pretty sure I'm only allowed to eat, well drink lol the shakes and soups but I'm going to ask my nutritionist tomorrow. But after reading some posts I think SF jelly might be okay?? I took some photos of myself today in only my bra and underwear and I can't believe how huge I've gotten, I suppose you just kind of pretend that you're not. But no need to pretend now as I intend to look very different eventually Two things I'm worried about: 1. Saggy and baggy skin. My surgeon said the only way you can combat this is by exercising?? Is this true?? 2. I have an autoimmune disease and am required to take a sh*t load of drugs daily. Is it still easy to swallow pills after VSG?? Would love to hear about your experiences and any advice Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  22. Yes please would love to have people to talk to who know exactly what we're going through! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    1 Day Post Op

Congrats, that's awesome super excited for you Mine's in less than 2 weeks and I spent tonight talking to a friend who's 3.5 years out and I feel so much better and then seeing this post. Made my night Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  24. Yay my nutritionist told me that I don't have to do the shakes just must eat a no carb, no sugar diet. So essentially just preparing me for the rest of my life. Also forgot to mention in the above post Height - 6'3" Starting Weight - 140kg or 308lbs Surgery date - 7th June and I'm Australian. I've struggled with my weight my whole life, can't remember being anything other than fat from about 8 years old, being teased, having to shop in different clothes shops, shopping used to make me so sad when I was younger. I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease at the beginning of this year and one of the meds I'm on caused me to gain 25kg or 60lbs in 3 months regardless of what I ate. I'm actually so excited about this, it's the first time I felt this happy all year 13 days and counting Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
