  1. I was starving 4 days post op. I was sure my doc screwed my surgery up or I was just a failed case. Today I am 3 months post op and 50lbs down. Just because we weren't one of the lucky ones who didn't experience appetite for months, doesn't mean we won't be successful! I love my sleeve and still love/enjoy food...and still lose weight!!! Maybe we are the lucky ones ;)

  2. Hang in there. This was my experience as well but I'm 7 weeks post op and 40lbs down! Most people here will tell you that aren't experiencing REAL hunger... It's acid reflux, head hunger, etc. But I had TRUE hunger exactly 3 days after surgery. Jus eat the things you are allowed. You will be full. You will be satisfied. And it will get better. I'm hungrier on certain days than others. Hardly hungry at all sometimes. But I'm always satisfied with much less food than before the sleeve, and that was the point! I've been where you are. I even got a second opinion because I thought my procedure was botched! Everyone is not the same. Not everyone experiencing the reduced/non-existent hunger. I was not one of the lucky ones but the surgery was still successful!

  3. I did not have this problem and thought I was the unlucky one. My hunger returned within 3 days (not head hunger or cravings...true hunger). But I did have a friend who experienced what you are and it helped her to stay on a timed scheduled for consuming liquids and food. She treated food like medicine. She just knew when her alarm sounded, she had to force something down. Eventually it passed and her body adjusted. Hang in there!

  4. I've had TRUE HUNGER since 3 days post op. It's very frustrating to have others tell you it's "head hunger" and there is NO WAY it could be real hunger. My dr confirmed that there is a small percentage of people who will experience hunger and appetite right away. It's unfortunate luck. But it doesn't mean you won't be successful! My hunger is easily controlled with tiny meals often. You just have to make it through liquids! Hold on tight and don't get frustrated! And if you KNOW it's true hunger like I did, don't let others make you feel crazy like I did.

  5. I'm 9 days post op.... And this has been a breeze! The worst part was a sore throat from the breathing tube! No nausea, almost no pain, no gas, no problem drinking my liquids! I can drink regular mouthfuls without discomfort. I didn't have an appetite for the first 2-3 days but it returned right before starting full liquids. Now I'm pretty hungry and these liquids aren't cutting it! Lol. No restriction yet... But My doctor told me to I may not experience that until actual food. I never had to take my pain meds. My incisions are tiny and almost healed. I FEEL 100% NORMAL.... And it's freaking me out! I'm driving myself crazy thinking that this isn't going to work and I just wasted $11,000 since I'm having NONE of the symptoms I expected. I've nearly accused my surgeon of malpractice! He is a very reputable and legitimate Doctor so I've managed to keep my emotions in check...kind of. I'm hoping someone else has had a similar experience and can reinforce that just because I'm not having the "usual" experience, doesn't mean it won't work. I'm driving myself and everyone around me crazy!

  6. Curious if anyone else decided to self-pay to avoid the wait period and hoops the insurance company makes you jump through? My insurance company wanted a 12 month wait and I would have need to gain and maintain 10 extra pounds because the wouldn't recognize my pre-diabetes as a comorbidity. So I've opted to pay $11,000 in MI and have the surgery done 6/7. I've gotten a lot of mixed reviews from friends and family for bypassing insurance and taking the financial burden but I have no regrets! (Yet!) Curious if any one else made a similar decision?

  7. You should have made him agree that if he couldn't stick to your diet he pays for your surgery in Mexico. Aim high with the bets!

I have thought about Mexico many times. But I am a little afraid. I know a lot of people have had surgery in Mexico and are doing just fine. But will not discard that option. Hehehe

The same thing happened to me with my insurance! I need this to save my life so my husband agreed to help me self pay. We are both terrified of surgery in Mexico as my aunt died getting a Tummy Tuck abroad as well as many other horror stories I've heard... So we searched until we found an American surgeon with reasonable fees. My surgery is 6/7 in Michigan and the cost is $11,000. Sure it was a bit higher than Mexico, but worth it for my peace of mind. I would consider self-pay if you can make the financial sacrifice and get your husband to back you! Good luck sweetheart!
