  1. Today is day 3, and my gym shorts are already falling off my ass just walking around the bariatric unit. LOL, I hope my old clothes last a little while longer than that, or I'm going to go broke trying to stay clothed for the next 6 months!

  2. <<<Don't take this the wrong way, but why not look at your own behavior first before jumping into another surgery?>>>

Gee, I never thought of that. Thanks for the tip.

I'm also curious about this. Any weight loss surgery is going to lose a lot of it's effects years later, that's how people end up regaining. You've done a good job maintaining a lower weight.

What's going to happen in 2 more years when the restriction wears off again? Are you going to keep having it done over and over?

Not to mention, that at 5'5" and 167# she is only in the Overweight category, which for most patients is basically at or very near the doctor's goal.

She'd have to be 4'6" to even be considered Obese at that weight.

No reputable doctor would touch a patient that's already at a reasonable goal weight with a 10' scalpel.

  3. Imdeborah- can I ask why you are getting a revision? If it didn't work, what did you start to notice and when did you know that it wasn't working for you?

I was sleeved March 2013. Got down to 142 at 5'5" and stayed there for over 2 years. Then I would gain 5 pounds, the take it off, then gain 10 pounds and take it off, but over the past year my weight has steadily crept back up again to 167. I was drinking iced lattes, but no juices, sodas, not eating sweets. But I have lost pretty much all the appetite suppression I enjoyed for such a long time. And now I'm having issues again with reflux, joint and back pain. I haven't discussed it yet with my surgeon, so I don't know if it will be a sleeve redo or a DS. :(
Don't take this the wrong way, but why not look at your own behavior first before jumping into another surgery?

The appetite suppression was never a permanent feature; it's always been temporary.

  4. When does your surgeon allow it? They are all different.

Our plan says never, citing statistics that Bariatric surgery patients who continue to drink have a 8-10x greater percentage chance to develop cirrhosis of the liver than the general population.

That's interesting. I've never heard that. Could you provide me with the reference?

The specific wording in our manual is "*the bariatric center* has a policy never to recommend alcohol consumption after any bariatric procedure. Eighty percent of the alcohol you ingest will go as a toxin to the liver resulting in a higher level of intoxication and more liver damage."

The 8-10x increase in cirrhosis was listed on the presentation slide, of which I unfortunately do not have a hard copy of. (hopefully it's not something they pulled out of their @$$, they are supposed to be reputable...)

  5. Here is another one that nobody talks about. Without the padding holding my boys in place I sat on my boys trying to sit down on the toilet. Ouch! Unfortunately this has happened a few times and I've learned cradle them or speak in a voice that only my dog can hear.

It only gets worse as you get older, trust me.

  6. The clearest trend I've seen is people asking vets questions when they already have a predetermined answer in their head. Then the askers, and a couple of others, lose their $!?& at people who dare to disagree.

I still don't think that means the whole board is wrapped up in drama. I have yet to witness the legendary bullying that vets are accused of daily.

  7. Also, call her out on her crap. Next time she does it confront her...she needs to know what she is doing is destructive for her...not just you and it is not ok for her to treat you like that.

I just asked my sister (who has had a bypass) what she thought of this post, and her response was "Grab her by the hair and slam her face into a car door."

I guess I never realized how competitive my sisters were when I was growing up, sheesh! That what I get for being the baby...

  8. It's always amusing when the apparent definition of Troll amounts to "someone whose opinion is different than mine, and therefore the ability to express that opinion must be stopped!"

Lady, you must be new to the Internet; there's no one here even close to being anything like a Troll. I can point you to other sites full of actual trolls if you like...

  9. Well, I'm a Libertarian so my hope is that more and more people will realize that the result we had this election was the direct result of the duopoly that forces people into a "one or the other" mindset. We need more choices and in this day and age, with information at our fingertips and sites like isidewith.com to help us narrow the field, there is no reason we should be stuck in this two-party mindset. Except that Americans just seem to love rooting for teams.

The system is designed for two parties, and the only persons that can change that setup are those two parties. They have absolutely no incentive to change the status quo.
