  1. I had my RNY and Wednesday and feel pretty good today, but I'm nervous about drinking and what will happen if I drink too much at a time/too many sips in a row.. Does anyone know how big a sip should be? I'm on Clear liquids until Monday and am supposed to drink 4 oz in one hour...but can I drink an once at a time or do I have to spread that out over 15 minute? I feel like I'm going to have to constantly sip Water all day and probably still never get 64 oz.

    October Surgery Buddies

Yes I had those same thoughts ..I have a emotional dependence on food so the thought of never eating the way i used to was upsetting... But I know I wouldn't really do this on my own, and even though things are tough today, 6 months from now I'll be so happy I chose surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Concerned family members

I'm not sure my parents really believed I was going to go through with it, since they tend to worry a lot but haven't really voiced concerns about the surgery. I'm sure they will be happy for me once they see the benefits. When I got the call that I was approved and would be having surgery 2 weeks later, I decided not to tell them until after its all done. They were leaving for a once in a lifetime vacation and will still be on vacation when I have my surgery, so I don't want them worrying about it when they should be enjoying themselves.

You can always try to call and move things along! My office was very slow and towards the end I called them 2x a week make sure they submitted to insurance.

    Pre op liquid diet

This is definitely much easier now (day 9) than it was in the beginning. I still get occasional cravings but not too often and they are easy to dismiss.

    Cold feet

My surgery is Oct 5th and I had second thoughts/cold feet a few days ago. I just keep thinking about how I want my life to be one year from now. I want/need a drastic change, and I know that for me surgery is the only way it's going to happen and have a change of sticking. TBH I kind of feel like I'm going through a breakup of my relationship with food. We had some good times and I get sad that I won't be able to eat like I did before, but really it's for the best to just leave all those unhealthy habits behind us and start a new healthy relationship with food.
  9. I'm planning to bring an extension cord for the phone charger, and either a laptop or kindle & headphones so I can watch netflix.
  10. I'm wondering how people maintain their loss long term. Are you able to eat everything you did before but now in moderation thanks to the bypass, or have you completely changed your diet by cutting out things like simple carbs etc? Some combination of the two? Also, I know sweets can be a problem after bypass, but what about spicy foods?

@@4ukay1 @@MindyMe @@coastergirl @@Sherbear2 For those on liquid-only diets, do you know how many calories you're having per day? I have been meaning to download an app to start tracking that but haven't done it yet. Are you on a drinking schedule or just whenever you're hungry?

I'm on a liquid only diet and sugar free Jello is on the list. Your surgeon may have different rules/expectations for how much your liver should shrink so I'd check with them just to be sure. I've emailed mine about things I read other here are eating , some they approved others they said no to. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Surgery Oct. 3

Congrats and good luck! We have very similar starting stats and I'm having mine Oct 5. I've been on the diet since Wednesday though. What was the pre op appointment? I have that on Tuesday.
  14. I'm wondering how long I will need to have someone home to help me with the baby after surgery?

I'm on day 2 of 14 liquid only diet . What kind of Protein shakes are you drinking? I'm already sick of chocolate. I tried some injury chicken broth flavored Protein Drink and that was a nice change Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  16. Thank you both for the replies!
  17. Okay so they just called me back and said it will be a month before I can lift 20lbs. That's going to be tough to follow. I may just spent a lot of time on the floor with her. How hard is it to get down on the floor and back up again a week after surgery?

    October Surgery Buddies

I just scheduled mine for Oct 5th.. Very excited and nervous (mostly about finding help lifting the baby during the month long weight restriction)
  19. I really identify with your post. I haven't made many changes yet.. Honestly I'm scared to make the changes because they will cause me to lose weight and if I do that I could be denied by insurance. (I purposely gained 7 lbs in order to qualify. ) What I have done is cut way back on caffeine, tested out Protein shakes , bought my Vitamins, and I also read the pre and post op diet guidelines over and over, so I know exactly what I have to do when the time is right.

    Just starting have questions.

ask your surgeon about dropping below 40 bmi. I had the same concern and my office said they submit the weight from your first visit, not from any of the follow up visits.
  21. I haven't even had my wls yet, but I do have loose skin from my last pregnancy. The skin folds over a little on my lower abdomen and it's hard to live with. It itches like crazy, is always sweaty, and nothing I do seems to help. I assume it will only get worse after wls. Is there anything I can do (some kind of special undergarments??) to help until it's time for me to get it removed?

So where are 30 somethings shopping?

I'm in my 30s and mostly shop at thrift stores. Since I started I have a very hard time paying retail prices for clothing.. since I see all the popular brands at the thrift store for like $3-8. I buy a lot of ann taylor / j crew / stuff that probably came from tj maxx. I only have 40 hangers in my closet so if I buy something I get rid of something.
  23. Any tips for doing this to avoid withdrawl? I'm hoping to be approved any day now and I've been told to quit by the day of surgery.
  24. My surgeon doesn't give a goal weight, they ask what my goal is (160, i'm 5'8") and said it sounded good. Is there some kind of formula to figure out a realistic goal weight after RNY? Do many people reach the "healthy" BMI range or should I expect to be something higher ? How long does it usually take to reach goal?
  25. I have to say that my surgeon is also almost never around, and office staff is slow to respond to me as well. My surgeon only comes in to the office on Wednesdays , and that is also the day he does all of his surgeries, 2-3 per Wednesday. It took me 6 weeks to get an appointment and once they cancelled and it took another 6 weeks to reschedule. A huge pain but my PCP highly highly recommends this surgeon so I never considered trying to find someone else. If I were you, and your surgeon is a good one, I would just wait out the leave (how long is it)? You have to wait to see the NUT , then insurance approval anyway. I would call again though, 2 weeks is too long to wait for a callback imo.
