  1. ... before your first fill? My doctor told me wednesday that I could start eating solid food. So I attempted to eat a 'normal' lunch from the cafeteria today. I stuck to a mushy side, but green Beans and a soft meatloaf was normal. I ate slowly and chewed thoroughly. I didn't have a problem eating it which is great. However, although I was only able to eat about 1/2 what I would normally, I was still able to eat more than I thought I would. I realize I don't have any real restriction right now. I was just curious how much people could eat before their first fill and if you gained any weight back. I am down a bit and don't want to gain it back so I was just curious. That all said, I came home tonight and entered everything I have eaten today into WW (I am trying to follow that plan) and I am still was well under my points for the day and that suprised me. The other good thing is that after I ate lunch, I was not at all hungry and didn't eat much tonight when I got home. Both good things, but I don't get my first fill until 6/2 which is like 4 weeks from now and I am afraid by then I will be able to eat as I did before the band and ruin the work I have already done.

    Was this too much?

Wow... you have lost almost 50lbs in less than 3 months! I am surprised they are even filling you again. I haven't had a fill yet as I just got banded, but I know some doctors won't fill you if you are already losing that fast.
  3. I am ashamed to even write this. Today is my 7th day out and this morning I was able to eat a McDonalds breakfast burrito. I left this morning without eating breakfast and I was hungry. I have healed really well and feel great and I decided to test it. I am sorry to say that it went fine. I only ate one. I pulled off most of the extra bread, I ate really slow and chewed really thoroughly and it was fine. I didn't have any problems at all. I realize that I don't have any restriction at this point and that should change after my first fill, but I am disspointed in myself for even feeling the need to test the process, particularly this early after surgery. I also don't want to go hog wild until I have a fill. What does that say for me going forward? I have wondered if this is something I could really do and now of course I am doubting the whole thing. I don't really know whether I am asking for advice or tough love or what. I guess I just felt the need to disclose...

    Already Testing...

Hi everyone... I appreciate the support. I am back on track. I am unsure what made me push the issue, but what's done is done. Thanks again. I have learned a lot from this site. Good luck to everyone.

Seminar - not so excited now

Absolutely... go to a different seminar and talk to different doctors. I just got banded 5 days ago and already I feel like it was a great decision.

I got banded on April 25th

Wow... 8lbs in 2 days. I was banded on the 24th, but I don't know how much weight I have lost. I didn't have the surgery in my home town and I don't have a scale where I am at. However, I am still swollen and stuff so I am not sure I expect to be down anything yet... Congrats!

    Baseball sized port??

I agree as well. I am only 4 days out, but I have had very little swelling around my port and that does not sound normal. I would call the doctor immediately...

    Just Banded

Hey newme... I got banded on the 24th and am doing remarkably well also. I had some serious gas pains the couple of days, but started to be able to 'pass' them yesterday and am feeling much better today. I am your same weight and age, but I have a couple inches on you (5'6"). I want to lose 80-90 lbs I think by my bandaversary as well. Based on my observations, it looks like ON AVERAGE people tend to lose at lease 10lbs/month for the 1st several months which makes it quite possible to reach your goal. Good luck...
  9. A similar thing happened to me. I didn't have an infection however. It was just my allergies acting way up. I was blowing clear (I know that's gross) so it wasn't an issue. At the same time, they had me taking anti-biotics so I didn't develop a secondary infection. However, I was out of work for 2 days due to the illness, went back Wednesday for 1/2 day because I had to have a last minute echo wed afternoon and then had sugery yesterday. I am planning to be out all next week too. Oh well. It is what it is, I guess. I am sure it's hard to make travel arrangements, etc when you are not sure exactly when you are scheduled. I hope all works out and good luck with everything.

    Going into complete panic mode

Yesterday was my band day and I did the same thing... It will be fine. You will go to sleep and then wake and it will be all over. Good luck to everyone...
  11. Does anything help? I just got banded this morning and I am in pain as well. Does the pain medicine help? Do the GasX strips help. I am walking already, but seems almost to be getting worse. I know I need to keep walking, but I was hoping there might be something else? Heating pad? Anything?
  12. I love this thread as well. Definitely inspiring. I won't miss: Only shopping for shoes and bags when I shop with friends Having only a pretty face Never having any energy Wishing I could just disappear Feeling ashamed of myself for not being able to control this LANE BRYANT!!!!!

    What to tell Job?

I agree mstrina... I don't want everyone scrutinizing every single thing I put in my mouth. When I start to lose weight, if they specifically ask, maybe I'll tell them. I'll decide then, but until then, I too am going with 'minor surgery' and leaving it at that.

    What to tell Job?

I have surgery on the 24th and I am telling this week. I have already told one of my bosses. I didn't volunteer what type of surgery and he didn't ask, although I know he really wanted to. It is true that by law you are not obligated to tell them. I am not positive, but I think it may be an HR violation for them to even ask.

    Sushi Post-band

Hi everyone... Is anyone able to eat sushi post band? It is one of my favorite foods and I read that it is something I should stay away from. I haven't been banded yet. My nutrition counseling is tomorrow and then I should be able to get scheduled... Thanks...

Afraid to go to psyc appointment

I am already in therapy and I survived as well. My surgeon told me that the psych eval is not a 'weeding out' exercise, but simply to get a feel for what your expectations are and what issues you might need help with going forward. Don't worry too much. You'll do fine!

    Personal Trainer or Boot Camp

I had a trainer for a while and intend to start up again after my surgery. I absolutely loved it. It is worth the money. I always felt so strong after the workout...

What can you have on the pre-op diet?

It depends on the diet. Most doctors require one. Mine is only low-carb, but some are all liquid. I don't have my surgery scheduled yet so I haven't started, but I can do the low carb thing for two weeks.

    Sushi Post-band

It is funny... That is actually what I am scared of most. I have such a hard time getting my arms around the fact that I might not WANT to eat those things. I agree with everyone here, the sacrafice is worth being thin. I am bummed sushi is something that might likely be a problem, but I am deathly afraid of just not be able to eat normally I guess.
  20. If I had to guess I would say he is afraid. Not of you dying, but of you losing weight and leaving him behind, particularly if he is also significantly overweight. Have you gone to any of the support group meetings? I have not yet been banded, but have been to one of the support meetings and it was great. Everyone was open and friendly and the experience re-inforced that I am doing the right thing. Would he be open to going to one with you?

    Cigna Insurance

I have Cigna as well and I also have a relatively low BMI(37). You likely already know this by now, but they will require that you go on a 6 month physican monitored diet. However, if, in that 6 months, you lose enought weight to drop below 35 BMI, you will likely be denied. It will also depend on your other risk factors, but being that mine were momentarily pretty low, that is what was likely to happen. So I skipped the hoops and I think I am just going to do self-pay...

Did I just PB? Need help.

You guys are totally freaking me out!!!

    For those with BMI 35-40?

It's funny... My BMI is 'only' just over 37. I have only been to the seminar thus far. I meet with the surgeon on 3/5. I told a couple of my girlfriends I was thinking about it, the ones I thought would support me. I basically got a half hearted responses from all of them and frankly, none of them have even remotely bothered to mention it again. Not one of them has even bothered to ask me how the seminar went? Frankly, I don't intend to tell anyone else. I am honestly not even sure I want to tell my mother.
