  1. Explain why you need it, list the benefits, explain how your weight effects your daily life. Like my osteoarthritis caused a lot of pain and effected my relationship with my children because I couldn't keep up with them, sleep was effected because of the pain and I was depressed because I could be the best mom I could due to my knees and ankles. Make your "presentation" sincere and personal, that will help you out.

  2. I get frustrated when people do the whole "I'm 4 weeks out and down 40 pounds from my highest weight" um, then you find out that they have only lost 18 since surgery. It's like there is some kind of weird race going on where who ever can brag the biggest numbers is the winner.

Last time I checked I wasn't a contestant on the Biggest Loser!

Every one should be proud that they just took the step to do this and be healthy, WLS is not easy and we should be encouraging each other with reality.

  3. I had Bariatric Advantage broccoli Soup right after surgery, actually when I was still in the hospital I was given strained clam chowder and sugar free chocolate pudding. My first 2 weeks I ate so much of the Bariatric Protein Soups that the thought of them makes me gag.

Every patient leaves the hospital with a list of what they can and cannot eat, we are mostly all adults, we all know the risks and have heard the horror stories. If someone wants to die like Mama Cass by chocking on a ham sandwich then it is their own fault that they became a casualty. I'm not trying to sound cold but some peeps need to just grow up.

  4. I use a good moisturizer (never a plain lotion) before I really towel off and I use humidifiers in my house to keep from drying out. I worked out a ton before surgery and even though I'm only 5 weeks out I am doing everything thing that I can safely do. Working out, moisture, and drinking Water will all help in the battle against the sag.

  5. Accountability is something so many people lack.

We are a population where most of us (not all) have had poor relationships with food as well as other aspects of our lives.

Many might say out loud that they are ready for a change but deep down they are scared.

For some weekly therapy should be for at least 6 months both pre and post op because the food issues could run really really deep.

Sometimes it is the person who signed off on the surgery who never actually checked the mental health notes who could be at fault.

Sometimes it is the patient who lied to get the surgery, pretending to be ready when they know they are not.

Since my surgery a couple weeks ago I have had some monster cravings and I sipped my Water and ate my strained clam chowder (they gave me strained clam chowder at the hospital the day after surgery along with yogurt and pudding), I thought to myself as I craved a grilled cheese sandwich what goes with it and I happily ate my Tomato Soup with a sprinkle of cheese.

Not everyone has the same level of problem solving skills and some will sabotage themselves, and some might even make up a story or two for the sake of attention.

I look at it as if someone signs up and within an hour posts about eating a slice of pizza with in a week of surgery and they have never posted anything before, I will question the source then walk a way from it, it just sounds too fishy to me.

  6. I will be going back to work right after the holidays, I'm looking for some ideas as far as what I could pack. I will be doing "Blue Collar" controlled industrial area type work and fighting for a microwave is not an ideal thing. So far I'm thinking of dicing up chicken, small chunks of cheese, yogurt, and maybe avocado.

What are things that you would put into your lunch box?

  7. I use my Apple Watch and I also have the Standland app with it, in the last 4 years I have been threw 4 major abdominal surgeries, I moved into my house last New Year's Eve just 14 days after one of those surgeries, my condo was in a super cute flat complex that was easy to shuffle around in, I did so many miles walking in circles around that complex. Unfortunately my new home is on top of a steep hill that even before surgery was hard to trek up, but I do have an Amazing view of the Olympic mountains. I am not allowed to drive for at least another week to be able to go mall walking every day, and even though my husband is super supportive after a long day at work he is not always wanting to venture out. I know that there are many creative minds here and I know that I'm not the only one in my predicament.

I'm just looking for ideas, and maybe there will be others who are looking for ideas, and if I can think of something I will post it up.

  8. I know that feeling, I have moments of being 90year old tired, I love walking my dogs but I live on top of a hill that is a pain to hike up, my neighborhood is perfect for walking except for the hill that my house sits on top of. Plus I live in the Seattle area and it has been getting pretty darn cold up here and I'm not a fan of cold right now. Half the time I have to keep reminding myself to slow down, the other half the time I have to remind myself to wake up....lol

  9. I just had mine done last week and I wanted a winter surgery because for me summer fun would have been to hard to miss. Winter in the Pacific Northwest means Soups, and hanging out indoors on cold wet days so it is easier for me to sip some Soup and shuffle around my house. Summer is all about swimming, bbqs, camping, and just all around fun, it would have been mentally hard on me to be watching life go by while I healed up. Plus I can't wait to show off my new body this summer!!!
