I was sleeved 8/31, didn't really have any gas pain that everyone talks about . But 2 days post op I am home and starting to get a lot of pain on the left side of my neck and upper left ribs. Is this gas pain ?? And what do I do for it .

That's gas! Heating pad when you're sitting, lots and lots of walking, and pump your arms up and down, side to side, do gentle punching forward like you're a boxer, roll your neck around, and Tylenol.

My surgeon's office set my surgery date, then didn't submit me for approval til I did the last tests for them. Guess they weren't worried about me getting approved.

I'm on Wellbutrin, I don't take the extended release but the pills are about the size of an M and M, so I split them before taking. No problems.

I agree w KristenLe, can't imagine that being proactive and getting the help you need would hurt your chances for surgery. If anything, it shows that you know how to access the resources you need in times of stress and struggle. I bet you'll be fine.

If you're a single mom, think of it this way.....what if you DON'T get your weight under control?

I think the issue is usually if there is a net gain between first visit and submitting to insurance....so if you lose it now, you might be fine?

Hi all, went to my 2 week post op meeting today and am now allowed to have some foods....limited list, but I am not complaining!
The nutritionist recommended we use a crock pot to cook meats, and specifically said no pressure cooker bc a pressure cooker tends to make meat stringy and tough....but I thought I have heard that meat was tender when cooked in a pressure cooker?
What's been your experience? I was all set to order my InstantPot, but would like to hear if you all find the meat juicy and tender enough in a pressure cooker? Maybe my NUT doesn't use one herself?
Thanks!

I don't think it gets any better than this, sorry.NSV - Fitting inside a toddler pool with my grandson! Loving summer.
That's the main reason I had this surgery.....to live long enough to see my future grandchildren and to spoil them rotten.

Ok, so I am going to give you another way to look at it, possibly:
It turns out that there were 2 people I worked with who, at different intervals, lost 150+ pounds each. Huge difference. One, then a year or so later, the other. I had a similar amount to lose. Watching each one do it, and asking about what they were doing, all they said in essence "I'm just eating less I guess?" And smiled like the cat who ate the canary.
They flat out denied having any intervention, surgery, medical help. Watching these huge losses happen once and then again, and hearing nothing but flat out denials about the surgery made me feel like a weak, pathetic, hopeless case. I cannot stress enough how alone and ashamed I felt of my unsuccessful attempts to lose weight.
Come to find out years later....WLS for both. I know it's their business and their decision, but IMO there's something unkind about lying to another morbidly obese person about this. A lot of my fears and concerns about the surgery and healing could have been resolved, and the overall stigma of having surgery could have been lessened too.
Again, I get that they don't owe anyone anything, but damn, is it fair to purposely mislead someone who could benefit from the potentially lifesaving surgery you just had?

I am sorry you are in pain. Take your meds religiously to stay ahead of the pain, it's hard to catch up and control pain if you miss a dose.
I had RNY almost 2 weeks ago, and I don't recall any spasms, but I DID feel like I'd been run over by a truck for 2-3 days! I am sure your hernia repair is adding to your pain.
Try some Popsicles, those count as liquid and seem to go down easier than a sip.

Like burgers and hot dogs and buffalo sandwich and fries and I guess this is all junk food. But, I can't go through a fast food drive through and grab a burger or anything. I just miss feeling normal when it comes to eating. Everything is just restricted when it goes down. I'm 9 weeks now and sometimes I only can get done purée food.

So I am still on liquids here so I might only be imagining that this could work but....why couldn't you have a small burger with cheese, pickles, mustard, Tomato, lettuce, ketchup but no bun? I mean, the quality of the meat would certainly be waaaay better if you made it at home and could eat it on a plate with a knife and fork, but you could get that burger taste? I've seen on Pinterest where some bariatric folks make little sliders and wrap them in lettuce.
I know it's not the same as driving with one hand and holding your Big Mac with the other, but that option didn't get us the life we truly want.

Guacamole is a great puree. Black bean Soup pureed and strained is excellent.
This is gross, I know, but I was not a sweets person and craved anything savory. I would mix different seasonings (like french onion soup) into plain greek yogurt and let it sit over night. Like making a chip dip? Then I would eat it. On a spoon. My kids thought I was disgusting but... I still do that for veggies.
Plain greek yogurt blended with avocado is yummy.
Cottage cheese is nasty but I forced myself to eat it with salt and pepper like twice.
I think that yogurt and onion soup mix idea is GENIUS.

I have asked about B12 injections but he did not prescribe. Also I am currently going to cleveland clinic. As far as NSAIDS I'm allergic to them so I'm not taking them. I will try and post an update tomorrow. Thank you all!!

I am shocked and disappointed that the surgeons at the Cleveland Clinic have not been more aggressive about getting to the root of your issues. Ugh.

Well, I felt like I got hit by a truck for the first 2 days! And achey like I was coming down with the flu. But by the end of the first week I felt 90% normal.
6 weeks sounds like a long time to not feel well....what does your surgeon say?

Holy crow!!! You get roast beef and salad on post-op Day One???
You must think us Americans are nuts putting up with these liquid diets for 2 weeks post-op!
The food went down well? And stayed there? Which surgery did you have?

I will be watching here to see what you learn tomorrow. This is such an awful experience for you, I am so sorry.
Have you thought about getting another surgeon to look at you? Is there a major Bariatric center in your geographical area? Like mayo, Cleveland Clinic, Duke? I believe Duke "fixes" problematic surgeries for many people in the mid-Atlantic and Southeast states. I bet other big centers would, too? Maybe look for ones that have major Bariatric Fellowships (usually linked to a university).
Thinking of you, hoping you get relief soon.

You can buy 4-packs of a single flavor at Walmart and many grocery stores (i.e.: Harris Teeter in the south).

Not the answer you want, but....you just need to follow the instructions your surgeon gave you.
