Which Question or Suggestion Are You Sick of Hearing?

I told a lifelong super thin person I work with, BC she'll need to cover my medical leave requests. With a deadpan serious face she asked, "Have you ever tried dieting?" I am 49 years old. I weigh 298 pounds. Dieting? Nope, never heard of it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I am 48 years old and in Chapel Hill, have done psych eval and have surgeon appt and other tests on July 14. No insurance waiting period for me, hoping for an August date. Which centers are you all using, and who is your surgeon? I am going through Duke, with Dr. Yoo. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -

@@OKCPirate .... Kids are 20 and 23, off at college and on their own. But funny you mentioned estate planning, BC I was thinking at bare minimum I wanted to get together a will and a living will, just in case. Almost more concerned with living will, don't want to leave my family with a hard decision if things go very badly and I am on life support. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Post RNY and/or Sleeve: Different Daily Calories in Maintenance?
gina171 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am sure this must be out there somewhere, but I can't find it? If you could direct me to s post or site that would be so appreciated. Let's look into the future.....and you get to a maintenance weight of say 150 pounds......would the amount of calories you consume daily be DIFFERENT if you chose RNY vs. Sleeve surgery? Or vice versa? Is there a surgery that allows you to eat a generally higher number of calories in maintenance? How significant is the malabsorption of calories with RNY? Thanks Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -

Wow. Very interesting! The breastfeeding photo on the home page is compelling to me. It's the idea that....if you wouldn't want to feed this white bread, fatty food to a baby who needs nutrition, then why would you feed it to yourself day after day? Thanks for sharing this! Haunt the Goodwills near wealthy neighborhoods. I am a mosaic artist and am constantly on the hunt for fine china to use in my work.....and the stuff I have found at Goodwills in wealthy areas is completely different from those in modest areas. I have found Lenox, Limoges, Royal Dalton, English Royal Crown Derby..... And that clientele drops off their off-season clothes a lot more often than fine china! The mortality stats I have consistently heard from the Centers of Excellence I considered was 0.2-0.3%.....or 2-3 people per 1000. And they said their rates where that high BC they are the go-to people in my region, and they try and fix other doctor's mistakes. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

So you feel like your food is moving through you much too quickly and causing that pain? It really sounds like you had a lot of poor treatment....can you find a new surgeon to work with? And get a copy of all your medical records from the first surgery to a lawyer? I mean.....the surgeon didn't close you up internally properly after WLS, then later he nicked your intestines causing more problems? That's not ok that lightning struck twice with you and the same surgeon.....you might not be the only one this has happened to Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

That person is one sad soul who can't stand to look in the mirror and face their own obesity issues with the courage to address them either non-surgically or surgically. Is anyone required to go to therapy weekly by your surgeon?
gina171 replied to TanairyVSG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I sincerely doubt your surgeon would recommend this to you if he/she didn't think you personally would benefit from it. And I hear a few things here.....you've been twice, never for more than 6 months bc it's too repetitive, there's nothing to talk about, it's awkward so you just don't like it, and you like to do your own thing. If it's repetitive, what is it repetitive about? What keeps coming up repetitively? If there's nothing to talk about, how did you wind up in therapy before for 2 separate efforts? And now you're being recommended to a third try from your surgeon? It becomes awkward for you and you just don't like it.....no one likes anything awkward. That's life. Pushing through it is what you do, not avoid it. The only way out, is through. You like to do your own thing....how has that worked for you -- or for ANY of us here -- in terms of food and weight control issues? Typically if we are all here, we haven't done too well doing things our own way. I don't see what you have to lose by seeing a therapist and really digging in to see what you can learn about yourself. I can't imagine feeling like I had nothing left to learn about myself and how I move through the world. I am not trying to be harsh, I honestly think you should get all the help you can during this huge physical AND psychological transformation. And yes, I do have a bias. I have been in therapy (I am an abuse and trauma survivor), and when I look around at my family, the only truly functional ones are the ones who have faced their problems head on and fiercely through therapy....the ones who rejected therapy and did things their own way, who thought therapy was useless after a few months, who thought they didn't need anyone's help to learn how to change/grow .... they are all either addicted to something, codependent, depressed, or dead by suicide. I know that's harsh to hear, but that has been my crystal clear experience. Very few of us wind up on the operating table just because we thought food was delicious. People are more complex than that, whether we believe it or not. Please consider giving therapy a chance at this time....what harm could it cause to try? If I were you I would go see a new surgeon ASAP, the very very best place in your region (where other doctors send their problem cases). And I would call a lawyer. But how does your situation relate to your post title of "Metabolism going too fast?" Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
