  1. To use a cliche: this is a marathon and not a sprint.

You just had major surgery. Your primary goal right now should be healing and health. The weight loss will come.

Rest, walk some, sip, sip, and sip.

The best thing you can do right now is focus on getting in all of your Fluid and Protein.

    Embrace the Stall

    Indeed!

  2. Sadly you can not prevent the hair loss. What you can do is help the regrowth by increasing your Protein . My NUT said to shoot for 90-100 grams.

I am 6 months out and finally my loss has slowed. My hairdresser said Thursday that my hair is really healthy (thanks to the added protein)

Take a deep breath and know that it is temporary and it will grow back.

This is great news.... (deep breath taken) I will definitely increase my protien... you know it's funny too because just today I said it seems like it's hard for me to hit my protien goal!! For the last week I've been around 70-80, when my Dr told me I should be aiming for 100!! I'm just gonna have to force down more shakes I guess!

  4. I had banana's pretty early in my recovery, but I am thinking maybe 1/4 at a time. They are incredibly nutritious but as mentioned they are high carbs. If at a later time you become a workout fanatic like some, you will find them an excellent pre-workout food. If you are just missing the flavor, I heartily recommend Gold Standard Banana Creme Protein powder:

    http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/p/optimum-nutrition-100-whey-gold-standard-banana-cream-2-lb-powder/op-1048

I usually do a half scoop of this and a half scoop of my Peanut Butter Protein powder (NOT PB2!). It also goes well with the chocolate powders.

As a side note, if you have a Vitamin Shoppe store near you I recommend you shop there while you are discovering protein powders. It took me forever to find Gold Standard (my fav) and they will let you buy those giant tubs and bring them back if you can't stand them. I have taken back several that I found to be awful and received full in store credit. I may pay a dollar or two more inside the store, but their knowledgeable staff, return policy, and customer service totally make it worth going there in my opinion.

Great to know! Thanks! I will be going to the Vitamin shop!! I can count on both hands how many tubs of protein powders I have in my cupboard that never get touched!! ????lol

  5. I love Banana Protein shakes!

I simply add a few drops of banana flavored extract to my vanilla Protein shake.

I get all of the yummy banana taste with none of the sugar/calories.

I think I'll go have one now. Thank you for suggesting it. :)

Yess! What a wonderful alternative! Where can I find banana extract?

Just about any grocery store----in with the spices. The same place where you would buy vanilla.

There are dozens of flavors. Root beer is one of my favorites. Added to a vanilla Protein Shake and I have a root beer float.

Think outside the box. Go a wee bit "extract/flavor" crazy..

    Make it fun! :)

    Yes! Woohoo! Thanks!

  6. I would steer clear of bananas for now. They have lots o' carbs!

Me personally ate nothing but Protein and veggies until I was almost to goal. I didn't incorporate fruit until about 7 or 8 months post. But that's just me ;)

Like someone said, track it as part of your daily carbs/sugar etc.

I did have the 1/2 banana in my protien smoothie today, and it was great, however looking at how many carbs it launched up on my tracker... I think I'll steer clear for now. Lol.... thanks! Maybe I'll have the other half in 5 months or so? Lolol...

  7. Afternoon! Ok, this may or may not be a stupid question ,but why am I afraid to eat bananas? Aren't they too sweet? I really just wana mix a protien smoothie and add a banana, but I'm scared that it has too much sugar?

I eat bananas. Yes, they are relatively high in sugar and carbs but they are also nutritious.

Stick to a small banana (or half of a larger banana) if you are overly concerned about carbs.

Just make sure you eat it with Protein and track it.

Ok, thanks. . I'll just use 1/2 the banana, and I most definitely will track it...

  8. So it's very obvious the new newbies want nothing to do with hearing what successful WLS patients have to say. The recent debate over the the eating bacon 1 week postop makes it perfectly clear that what they want is for someone to tell them it's OK to be stupid. They are not interested in listening to their surgeons or nuts or veterans. Self sabotage is the new fad and compliance is apparently out of style. I made the mistake of responding to the post when, as a veteran, I should have known better. Turns out I'm just a big meanie (no surprise there!) At this point it's 95% newbies posting on that thread who don't have a clue what the long term repercussions of eating off plan so soon will lead to. The blind leading the blind.

Oh well. It will be interesting to see the stats of successful EWL go down over the next few years as more and more unprepared, uncommitted people continue to have WLS. In the meantime, I'm outa here. The newbies won. As hard as it is to tear my eyes away from the car wreck, I just can't take anymore people that do stupid **** and then whine about getting their feelings hurt. Someone PM me when the grown ups start joining again.

I'm a newbie who will gladly take your advice! Lol... ???? please stick around!

  9. I will be 3 months post op on 07/07/16, I have been eating Premiere Protein bars 30 grams and Power bars 20 grams. The Premiere Protein Bars has more calories and carbohydrates than the Power bar but the Power bars has fewer carbohydrates and calories. These bars are tolerable but don't taste all that great to me but I eat them for the high Protein. I also have tried many protein powders and shakes, I haven't found anything I actually like but I drink the Premiere Protein Vanilla 30 grams drink it is 11 ounces and has other Vitamins in it also. I have tried Premiere Protein strawberry and will drink what I bought but I personally like the vanilla the best. I still have a hard time digesting meat of any kind so I have to supplement with bars and shakes to get my protein in.

Ok, thanks! Yea I'm still trying to find protien powders that I love! Lol... I just bought boost high protien powder today so I'll try that, along w your suggestions! Thanks again!
