question for everyone following a pound of cure -- how much Protein do you get? i mentioned it to my dietian and she told me not to follow it b/c there wasn't enough Protein. but I really want to follow it!

I found his book excellent. The only problem I had was that I am on a low FODMAP program so can't eat legumes and some vegetables. I must be getting enough protein as my six month post op checkup didn't indicate a protein issue and my hair is now growing back.

His pound of cure program is for everyone, not just bariatric patients.

Vegetarians who have bariatric surgery are able to get enough protein post op so I believe it can be done.

Saying that, if your program says no, then you should follow your plan.

You can also schedule a skype appointment with Dr Weiner to get his opinion.

    Good Luck and God Bless

  2. I've spent all day watching his videos. Neat guy!

One question... he recommends Beans. I am preop, and my husband has virtually banned Beans from my diet due to excessive and noxious gas. I love them, but they don't love me!

Does Dr. Weiner have a recommendation about that?

I can't eat beans because I am on a low fodmap diet.

    Just leave them out.

  3. I am an eight months post op gastric sleeve patient in the UK.

I have had every complication going and unfortunately, have had limited support from my NHS bariatric team.

So I have been learned alone how to manage my post op care, Vitamins and diet.

Someone here recommended Dr Weiner's youtube videos so I watched every one of them.

His advice has been fantastic. The video explaining how and why we lose so much weight in the initial post op period, then hit that wall around the nine month mark, was such a revelation.

I have bought his book, a plan that he recommends to everyone who wants to lose weight, but very helpful to WLS patients.

The plan is so different than my bariatric plan but so much better.

I have to follow a low fodmap diet, plus a wls diet, so was really struggling to find a diet plan that suited me.

I live alone so don't like to cook as I have no one else to feed but this book has me excited about my next year in this process.

I have also bought a fitbit which has also been so encouraging for me. It means that I can track everything so I can keep to my diet and exercise program.

I am quite housebound with a disability so the positive information from Dr Weiner and the data that the fitbit gives me has helped so much.

Dr Weiner will do skype consultations. For people like me who are doing all of this alone without support, his videos and diet information are a God send.

Thanks for this.. I'm an uninsured 9 weeks post op sleeve patient from Australia and have only had one folllow up appointment since my surgery. And that was with my dietician whom didn't really tell me anything I didn't already know lol. To she handed me a pamphlet and that was really it.

I have found a lot of my diet and post op info from Pinterest and different forums like this one. Sometimes instagram and YouTube as well.

I think it's because I was a self funded patient that I haven't really been given the time of day after my surgery. Thankfully I haven't had any complications but I have no idea about what supplements to take except multivitamins..

    Annoying really

So sorry to hear that! These videos and his book are really informative.

Message me if you want a buddy. I am no expert but I got through it and am happy to help even if it is just to listen!

    God bless,

    Gina

    Hi Gina

I am from UK and also had no help post op. I had lots of problems in the first 3 weeks. I am also disabled and had problems with my medications after the op. I will check out these videos that you have mentioned. Thank you.

  5. I love Dr. Weiner! I binge-watched all of his videos on YouTube and knew this is what was right for me based on his videos. I really wish I could have had him as my doctor. I also bought his book but I haven't read it yet. I don't think I'll give up animal Protein post-op, unless I can't handle it, but I really think his focus on vegetables is the right way to go.

He still encourages animal Protein, just less of a percentage than on most plans.

    The book is fantastic!

  7. I lost a shocking amount of hair and had to have the remainder cut short, as did my sleeve buddies.

I saw a dermatologist who told me that it either happens to you or it doesn't and no amount of Protein or Vitamins can stop it.

But it's temporary and will grow back.

All three of us now have regrowth. I use minoxidil because the dermatologist recommended it. I also use a lasermax comb. I do take Nourkin tablets as well as Biotin.

Not sure any of it helps.

I don't mind the new bob. I am too scared to dye my new regrowth so look a bit skunkish, that I do mind.

  8. Has anyone else followed this plan post op?

I found the book interesting and bought it after watching his videos on youtube.

I am 8 months post op and can eat again now but struggle with animal Protein. His plan is a vegetable based eating plan and he recommends this for his bariatric patients.

Just wondering if anyone has tried it out and how it worked out for them.

    Thanks!

  9. Please hear me. I had vsg surgery in May 2016.

I did so willingly and earnestly determined that this surgery would be my saviour.

I am housebound and mostly bedbound from a chronic illness and the NHS bariatric team felt this surgery would "change my life". And it did,

Not for the better due to many life threatening post op complications and many predictable ones.

I own this because made the decision.

During this time, I was very vocal here about my disappointment in the NHS bariatric programme that I was a part of.

I have expressed my annoyance at lack of support from my "team" etc.

But please hear me, if this surgery is right for you, if you have studied, are supported, are confident, go ahead and take the chance.

For me personally, this surgery was wrong for me but for others, it might be the golden ticket.

Most of the die hard "happy sleevers" have blocked me so I get no hassle for expressing myself anymore, but for awhile, I did.

BP was a hostile place for me only because I dared to say, look, just really research the anomalies, people like me (the 5%) who found out that this surgery was a bad idea for them.

I still regret my surgery because the point was to become more healthy and more active. I am now less healthy and less active.

But that doesn't mean that it might not be right for others.

And regretting it doesn't really make much difference. Once the vsg has been performed, that's it done. Forever.

I just want folk here to know that some of us, really do think that this was a bad idea.

Pre op, post op, whatever. Just to know that someone thought it sucked and you can get support if you want it.

That's all really. Not all of us love our sleeve.

  10. I hope this poster is ok, she hasnt posted since this thread. At any rate I wonder if she has considered that since they cant find anything wrong with her physically that this is more of a psychological thing? I know food aversions and such are usually a result of irrational fear and not a physical intolerance of food. Just a thought...

I hope the OP is okay too.

Food aversion is often the result of food intolerance plus reinforcement created by post op nausea. Not really an irrational fear.

We are taught that due to the severity of our major surgery, that vomiting post op can tear our stitches which would result in a possibly fatal leak.

So when we have overwhelming nausea, at even drinking Water, post op, food is out of the question in both our bodies and minds.

Then add the intolerance of lactose, the weird odd feeling of food in the new sleeve, weird taste changes, pain, gas etc. which makes you nauseous post op, all physical issues in the body.

So a symbiotic problem. One that isn't often discussed. And I haven't been able to obtain any treatment from my bariatric team so am having to push my already stretched GP for help.

The usual answer is that all of this will pass. And I must be honest, things do evolve continually.

I just hope that someone is supporting her, looking after her.

  11. I went from clear liquids to full liquids then puree'. So I made bone broth at first, then blended the beef in the broth.< /p>

I used a stick blender to smooth out beef and chicken Soups and stews so I had all the taste of food but no lumps. I made batches and froze it in ice cube trays. Perfect size cubes.

I drizzled greek yoghurt over sugarfree Jello (jelly here) for a taste of sweet.

Honestly, four weeks is nothing following such a big surgery.

You will be eating differently for life. You will adapt. I have learned how to sit with my family and appear to eat normally. I know what I can eat and can't so I put a variety on my plate then just eat tiny bites at a time.

Luckily my five year old granddaughter eats slowly too! Although she eats lots more than me.

I could never tolerate any of the listed soft, puree' foods on my plan. Mash potato, baked potato, cottage cheese etc, none of it worked for me so don't go out and buy lots of stuff.

Just try small bits of things each week.

  12. Tummy sleeper for 50 years. Following my surgery, I slept on my back initially because I had a drain in. After a week or so I could lean more and more onto my side to sleep. Using pillows to support my stomach I slept that way for quite awhile. I can now sleep totally comfortably on my stomach as normal. That started around month 4 post op for me.

Don't worry about this, you will get through it.

  13. Yes, things will improve eventually. Don't rush your solids. Get your Water in first, Protein next and all your supplements. I carry a Protein Bar in my handbag and always have a cup a Soup sachet in there too.

I went back to full fluids four or five times in the past seven months.

food had definitely lost it's appeal for me and nothing really tastes nice.

I have come to accept this.

Sip your Water, take tiny bites of food on your plan.

Speak to your team about more anti nausea meds.

You will be okay. It must be hard with a little one around to care for.

Take care of yourself! You can do this.
