    They called my work!!!! D:

I want to have a good relationship with my coworkers and not come accross as an angry trouble maker

    They called my work!!!! D:

I would be LIVID if this happened to me and I didn’t want my coworkers to know!!! What did you say to the HR person! And definitely your doctor’s office should not have said where they were calling from. I’m so sorry this happened to you! 😰 I didn't say ANYTHING. I didn't wanna look at or interact with her (but more from embarrassment then anger)

I have been heavy since early childhood. I had to change elementary schools 4 times due to bullying. It's a touchy subject in general... You know I don't mind telling friends one on one one at a time but this particular issue is private and tied to a lot of old pain and trama... Also there is a stigma of WLS that goes something like this: you obviously lack will power and can't stick to a diet so you carve up your body cuz you just can't say no to the Twinkies. One on one I can set them strait or explain the truth before I tell them... Ideally they'll see me eating salad and hiking and lifting weights so they KNOW I am not trying to cheat or have no will power BEFORE I tell them.
  5. Or do the cut up your intestines without enout stomach acid to dissolve the Shell shards?

    Mommies getting sleeved

I know what she likes more then anything: LOL surprise dolls. Maybe stickers towards an LOL ball

    Mommies getting sleeved

Yeah, she super doesn't fall asleep on her own. I was thinking of laying in bed with her till she falls asleep but her tiny bunkbed isn't supposed to hold more then 250 lbs. I don't even know how to get her to fall asleep without me. I don't mind sleeping with her but I WOULD like her to be able to sleep in her own bed for a few short weeks when I will be in a lot of pain. Then she can go back to sleeping with me if she wants.

    Mommies getting sleeved

It would be a big change. She has her own bed but doesn't use it. We both sort of like the ritual of bedtime stories and falling asleep together. Of course she kicks the blankets off gets cold snd literally tried to crawl under me like a blanket (hence the kicking- which is more like digging)
  9. Glad to hear there are lots of ways to be healthy! I think there are many good diets (look at traditional cultures all over the world!) And pretty much ONE way to Unhealthy: Refined, processed, artificial food (including sugar and refined flour) I think once you get the junk out, weather you eat chicken or beans or apples is sort of down to individual lifestyle, preferences, and goals. While I think it is definitely true that (provided unlimited amounts of iron clad will power) you will weigh less if you live on only green vegetables and avoid all carbs, meats, and fats, it is not nessesarily a diet I would be able to force myself to live on forever. I would sooner give myself permission to eat apples in moderation then to fall into a box of Twinkies when my will power breaks.

    Mommies getting sleeved

I am still in the "6 months of hoop jumping before I can have surgery" phase... But I am a single mom with a special needs (emotional/self control issues) 8 year old.... This is my biggest concern too: What if I die?! (Very unlikely, I know, but still scary!) What if I am totally out of commission for 6 weeks??? My kids sleeps in my bed and kicks me all night (on accident)... This is a concern. I live alone, my family is local and helpful when I am sick or injured... Still... I live alone and am 100% responsible for a child. So, anyway, this thread is very helpful and keep the mommy encouragement coming.
  11. Which would you get if you were me: Sleeve or Bypass? I currently weigh 304 lbs down from 324 (I am 5'8") My adult average was 312 I have been obese since early childhood I have never been able to get below 280 for more then a few days I find hunger painful. I get crazy hungry if I eat refined carbs I have bad knees and a dislocated clavicle that never healed (is still in 2 peices) after a bad car accident 3 years ago. So I take a lot of Naproxin for pain. I enjoy exercise to some degree, I enjoy swimming, hiking, softball, yoga, going out and doing things like zoo, beach, etc.... But to be honest I do most of my exercise on the weekends (am considering picking up weight training again but a little worried about my shoulder/clavicle) Intended long term diet: Paleoish with occasional milk and beans. (Lower carb but not keto, whole food, 1 serving of fruit a day, maybe 2 long term etc) Weakness: Being around tastey food. I get suggestibale and want what everyone else is eating. Mild high blood pressure (140/70) that just started (kinda comes and goes, no treatment) No other comorbidities (except bad knees) No reflux No medication except NSAIDS and Tylenol I am lower income and on Medicaid in Oregon I am leaning towards sleeve because I take NASIDS and as a lower income Medicaid person I fear what will happen if Medicaid gets de-funded or drops me some day in the future... Then I would want least side effects or potential things to go wrong long term BUT I am very, very large with a lot to lose and have been heavy since early childhood and never successfully able to lose down to normal with diet and exercise.... Which sounds more like a Bypass recommendation. What would YOU do?
  12. The other day my mom and cousin (who don't have any idea I have been pursuing weight loss sugury) were bad mouthing weightloss sugury. (They saw an article about it in a magazine) My cousin said, "your body has intestines for a reason! Those people who cut out their intestines can't absorb all their nutrients, and they throw up and have all kinds of problems. They're gonna do more harm then good!" Mom: "yeah, my friend had that and she can only eat baby food and stuff" Cousin: "yeah! See? People must be despret to be thin to ruin your health and live on baby food" Mom: "well, she had a lot of health problems, so she kinda had to, and they spent more then a year on tests and counciling to get her to qualify" Cousin: "yeah, you'd have to! And you can never be normal, never have one potato chip for the rest of your life, never go to restraunts..." I didn't say anything. I know I should have but this is a deep issue for me. I did that thing where you are listening intently but pretending you don't hear...
  13. I told my cousin (who is my best local friend) once that I was sad my insurance wouldn't cover Bariatric sugury a year ago because I didn't have any comorbidities (they just changed that requirement this year, now if your BMI is over 40 you can have surgery even without comorbidities) Her general additude was, "You don't need surgery because you're healthy and active and you have good labs and good heart and good lungs and no diabetes etc. Surgery is drastic and dangerous and for people with serious health problems, But if you have no health problems other then "being fat" then it isnt something you wanna mess with"
  14. Any short, informative, layperson articles about setpoint and such you know of?
  15. They will have to find out eventually. I am a single mom. Someone is going to have to watch my kid, and also I intend to ask my family to come over once or twice a week and help with things like housework if I am sore in my core muscles and exhausted. They are a good family I can trust to help me in those physical ways... They helped when I was in my car accident, they help if I have a bad flu. Some time in 6+ months they will help with physical things like watching my daughter or picking up the shopping for a short period... But they can be emotionally trying and difficult. I am thinking of sending them an article about set point and stuff, or the http://www.weightlosssurgerypodcast.com seminar Podcast... I don't want them coming to appointments with me. Too much PTSD about my dad barrating me about my weight all through growing up... When I was in a car accident and could bearly walk my dad took care of me- but I made him wait outside while they weighed me because weight is a huge issue given my childhood

    Sleeve vs bypass

I will ask about non NSAID anti inflanatory options. Maybe they will prescribe something else that works as well? If I keep Medicaid (and Medicaid remains funded) I could conceivably move from sleeve to bypass if I choose sleeve and struggle with regain... I understand the long term difference is about 10% or 10-20 lbs. If it's a difference of a new setpoint of 220 with NSAIDs and less chance of malnurishment vs 210 with no NSAIDs and more risk I'll accept the 10 lbs. But if it is 180 vs 240 then it's worth the risk and finding some way around the NSAID problem. I wish there was a crystal ball to see how I would personally react. A lot of the literature has HUGE degrees of margin: like "lost an average of 60% of their extra weight (plus or minus 35%)" Are you kidding me?! That's 25-95%!!! And sometimes people do everything right and lose less and some others don't change their habbits at all they just eat smaller portions and lose more... It's apparently impossible to predict!
  17. I have this fear of dumping while hiking with my little kid. There are lots of waterfalls around here between 1/2 and 3 mile hikes. Here is something we do often in summer: Me and my little daughter hike a mile into the forest to a waterfall where we sit on a rock and have our picnic of lettuce wrap (lunch meat, pickle, avacado, tomato, bell pepper) nuts, and an apple... Then play in the waterfall before hiking back to the car. I am afraid of engaging in this healthy, wholesome activity and dumping when I'm miles from home and responsible for 1 or more children alone, and becoming too sick to get home or take care of them. 2) I don't like the idea of all the chemicals in the protine drinks. I like the set point smoothies idea, or even just protine isolate with milk or keifer (if tolerated) and a small handful of berries... Or some green juice (no fruit except maybe tomatoes) with protine isolate. Something like that Rather then a lot of aspertame and guar gum etc. But again I would be scared of dumping.
  18. Lemme ask you guyst some questions 1) are you not hungry with less portine? I hear vegetarians don't get the seity that protine-first meat eaters do. I also worry about the blood sugar swings of carbs causing hunger. 2) the set point smoothies were not hard on your stomache early out? 3) do you drink (or is it recommend) green juice? (No fruit, just kale, tomatoe, celery, bell pepper, etc with maybe protine powder early out when you can't eat much to get more nutrition)
  19. What do you guys think of this slightly unusual approach?
  20. You haven't had any dumping with real fruit? Or set point smoothies which contains real blended fruit?
  21. If you're surgon is being mean and condensending, then maybe go-to your doctor and get reffered to a different weightloss surgery specialist if possible? I don't know if the sleeve is wrong or if it is something else (hormones? Genes?) But noone deserves to be degraded

    Pound of cure

Lots of people! Lots of people's forever diet is "keto" or "Atkins-like" meaning protine and some green, low carb veg, but avoid carbs such as: Fruit, beans, whole grains, corn, peas, lentils, peanuts, berries, squash, yams, potatoes, etc They WILL however eat fake food, such as low fat margarine, artificially flavored sugar free treats, atkins brand low carb pancake with Atkins brand artificially flavored aspertame syrup etc I am wondering if people are having success when they avoid grains, sugar, and processed food, but eat a veriety of whole natural foods, including berries, squash, fruit, nuts, and beans (But not chips, cookies, bread, soda, pasta, crackers, candy, fake, or highly processed food etc) (Kinda paleo-like, but with beans and maybe milk if you tolerate it)
  23. Oh no!!! What horrible timing!!!

    Anyone regretting this?

My friend has had no surgery but is a "super taster" and HATES the matalic/chemical taste of tap and most bottled waters. She found a few she likes. One is "purified filtered water" tasteless, another is "smart water" which has a "water" taste which she likes and doesn't find offensive. Here is what I would do: Go buy ONE bottle of EVERY kind of water in the local store. I know, that means like 20 dollars up front and 19 of them wasted... But for your health it is worth it. ONE will be at least tolerable to some degree. Get a bunch of bottles of the one you can stand and then drink or flavor with fruit/tea/herbs/extracts whatever you like.

To me, a lot of it rings true (tho I wouldn't nessesarily limit lean meat or minimize dairy.) I like his whole food, vitimins and nutritional content first approach For example he recommends instead of a sugar-free fat free cookie made with aspertame, guar gum, olestra, msg, and splenda (no actual food was harmed in the making of this product) Just eat an apple full of vitimins, photo chemicals, and fiber It worries me when I see a lot of bariatric surgery perminant diet patients recommending tons of fake food I would rather use lettus to make a sandwich then this weird low calorie, low fat, highly processed bread they found. I like that he emphasises veggies, which are both very low calorie and very high nutritient. I do wonder if his people get enough protine, and if they are hungry with less animal protine as animal protine is very satisfying and digests more slowly. I also wonder if the fruit and beans may cause dumping syndrome or blood sugar swings. I wonder if his blended spinnich and raw fruit smoothies are too hard on a tummy early on... (Raw plant fiber)
